Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Since arriving in NightClan, her situation had marginally improved. The cat Frozenfire had died, and she was her main tormentor. She was the one who found her and instead of killing her, made her a prisoner. She had made no friends in the Clan since then, and it was for good reason. The she-cat made a habit of spitting on anyone who got too close or did something that irked her. It originated from when she had no voice, but it was just fun even with having her voice back, albeit scratchy and weak. Her lungs did not have resources or time to heal properly after the fire, and part of her worried that whatever damage was left would be with her for the rest of her life.
That was only one more reason to keep praying to her god. As usual, after clearing out her assigned den, she began to pray to the Sun God near cenote. She could not see the setting sun, but this was the closest she could get.
Her dual-colored eyes were focused on the she-cat, mostly because there was a part of her that intrinsically distrusted those who hadn't been born in NightClan. This distrust was amplified because Soot was a prisoner; Aspendust knew the danger of allowing cats with SunClan pasts to do basically anything. Perhaps this was because of a deep-seeded prejudice against the Sun God and his clan, but she couldn't help it. They were antagonists that made the residents of the Forest Clans miserable on a pretty regular basis, despite the fact that most leaders of the ForestClans were buddy-buddy with them. To Aspendust, any cat who played nice with SunClan was just waiting to get burned.
After a moment, Aspendust decided that just watching the feline wasn't going to do her any good. "Aren't you supposed to do that when the sun is high in the sky?" Her voice was neither hostile nor friendly, but it was curious. She couldn't help it; despite her general disgust of SunClan cats, if nothing else, they were interesting.
Soot ignored the she-cat when she first spoke. She did not let any interrupt her prayers, not matter how ignorant they were of her ways. She finished her prayers in near silence before turning to face Aspendust. The snow bengal's crystal blue eyes did not hide her disgust for Aspenfall. She let it shine through with every subtle movement, every tremor of her paws. Her lip curled up in disgust before her scratchy voice filled the area. "Well, look who's the smart one here? You know, I would love to pray when the sun's up, but you and your clan of dinguses are shadewalkers. So, I say my evening prayers when you wake up, and morning prayers when I go to sleep. Because, you know, it's logical to sleep during the day. Because of course."
She had nothing to lose here. Her family thought she was dead, as did her Clan. She certainly was never going to join this clan of heretics, so that only left staying a prisoner for the rest of her life. Besides, she'd already been drowned in the cenote before. What worse could they do. "Does the two-eyed twit have anything else to say?"
"Watch yourself, prisoner. It is best to remember who's land you sit. The Sun God cannot protect you here." Her ear flicked slightly in irritation. It took all of her restraint not to knock the prisoner across the head. She was getting better about controlling her temper, but Aspendust was no pro yet.
"Cats are naturally nocturnal, it's not anyone's fault that the Sun Cult forces you to live against instinct. Personally, I think the night suits cats in our care just fine." Her tail tip twitched as she spoke, before she offered Soot a shrug. "But, I'm well aware we will never break you of your indoctrination. It's almost sad, to watch cats die for an executed god. I suppose that is neither here nor there; cats like you will never see that not only are you wrong, but unfortunately so."
"And, in fact, the two-eyed twit does have something else to say. Get up, I need a sparring partner."
She growled. Sure, the Sun God could not see her down here, but she still lived in his light. Despite her months long stay in NightClan and only seeing the faintest wisps of sunlight, she still prayed everyday. She still worshiped her god and basked in his light. Unfortunately, a cavedweller like Aspenstar could never understand such a profound concept. It would go right over her head.
"Maybe we are, but ever consider that SunClan is providing a better path forward for us." She winced at the mention of her god's death. "The Sun God will return. It has already been prophesied. It was prophesied from the moment he fell." Confidence edged its way back into her voice as she lifted her eyes to meet the leader's. "I know he will return, and he will free me from this place." The bengal fell silent at the leader's next order. "Well, fight me and I won't be able to do whatever I should be doing. But your call, and your ego to beat up a prisoner." She shrugged. "It's so original and brave, why hasn't anyone thought of it before?"
