Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Until Firefly had detected something odd near the lake.
He followed the scent and his eyes widened as he took in the sight of the massive birds that had come to roost by their lake. There was a lot of them, and they were big. With brown feathers, long black necks and webbed feet.
And they were very plump.
"Guys!" He hissed heading back to the rest of the patrol. "there's some really big birds sitting around the lake! They're huge we could feed the whole nursery with one of those! maybe even some of the warriors too!"
Shadowpaw crouched low, slowly coming up beside the warrior and scenting the air. “The wind’s blowing our way still, I don’t think they know we’re here yet. Should we try to get one away from the group or should we just attack?” She whispered, trying not to draw attention from the large waterfowl. She wasn’t sure how long they’d have before the wind shifted and carried their scent toward their potential prey, but she also didn’t like the idea of just charging into the flock. “I could try to sneak around and startle them back toward everyone here.” She offered.
"Wait, can we really just..." For once, Coralpaw wasn't eager to rush blindly into something. She was all for taking some of these things down if it meant she got to brag about catching them, but there was just something about them that was...off-putting. She imagined all those giant bird things running at her all at once, and barely suppressed a shiver.
Not that she was scared or anything. "...You know what--yeah. I like Shadowpaw's plan. Go get'em, tiger!" Coralpaw said, giving her fellow apprentice a weak clap on the back.
Firefly hummed. "I dunno, they look like they might be trouble for just one small cat." He meowed, his tail flicked behind him. "How about I take Shadowpaw's idea and I'll drive it to the rest of you instead?" He suggested.
He was more experienced after all. Shadowpaw was still a new apprentice, he didn't want to risk her getting seriously hurt. Plus this was a chance to be part of a great catch! Imagine the praise he'd receive when they learned he'd bravely gone into that cluster of large birds to drive them away?!
"I need you to get into position, I'm going to try and go in there and see if I can drive them towards you." He said, he nodded to a nearby bush. "Perhaps try hiding there?" He suggested.
Shadowpaw nodded, following the warrior’s instruction to hide. She crouched in the bush, her dark fur blending into the shadows as she waited. She glanced at Coralpaw. “Should we team up on one or try to take down one each?” She whispered, sizing up the birds. She was sure she could take one on her own, but she wasn’t sure if it was worth the risk.
Coralpaw wasn't confident about her ability to take down an entire super-bird by herself, but she would never admit that to someone who'd been an apprentice for less time than she had. "Team up on one," she said, averting her eyes. "It would be easier on me--I mean, you--I mean, us."
hard mode roll: start a fight starting a fight with a goose counts, right?
Willowmyth had not been paying enough attention. It was chilly, and the only thought in his head as the wind blustered around him was of the warm nest waiting for him back at camp. Said wind was blowing in the wrong direction to alert him what he was about to walk into, the scents of his clanmates and the geese flowing away from him on the breeze. When he finally looked up, it was straight into the beady eyes of the closest goose. It was fine, though, because he was a predator and they were prey animals... right?
"Get back, goose," he snarled, raising his hackles as the goose's friends amassed around it. You're descended from a fearsome lion, he reminded himself, baring his teeth as the geese advanced, flapping their wings menacingly. They should be scared of you. They were not scared of him.
"I said get back, yo-ahhhh!" he shrieked as he was descended upon in a cacophony of honking, his claws slashing out wildly at his attackers. Why is all the prey in this godforsaken clan trying to kill me?
Firefly's head jerked towards the sound of an explosion of hawks and the yowling of Willowmyth.
"Willowmyth! Hang on!" Firefly cried. "Coralpaw, Shadowpaw, we're going to have to help him! Charge!" He cried rushing forward into the fray.
The geese's honking was so loud it was hard to focus on anything else, but Firefly leapt into the fray slamming into the one closest to Willowmyth.
The goose angrily let out a honk, smacking him with a wing. And Firefly was stunned by how much the blow actually hurt.
Then it bit him.
"Yeoow!" Firefly shouted jerking back from the goose. "Get back you feathered fiends!" He shouted trying to come up with a plan of attack but just wound up slashing and beating his way through the geese as they puffed up, nipping and smacking him as he tried to get into the mass of them to Willowmyth.
"Get off me, you big feathered brute!" growled Willowmyth, although he was all but drowned out by the racket that the geese were making, as was Firefly and the rest of the patrol. His wildly slashing claws found purchase and ripped a red gash through the feathers of the goose that had been lunging at him, only for its place to be taken by another one as it fell back, injured. Ducking under a flapping wing, he lunged out to to nip at the bird's feet and caught sight of Firefly's paws with a flash of relief. Maybe I won't be murdered by a bunch of damned birds, he thought.
