Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
A cold rain fell from the sky, as a dark cloud loomed overhead. Even the normally cheerful sunflowers seemed wilted and dreary, looming overhead. He long fur clung to her thin frame, hiding the tears that ran down her cheeks.
Before her were three mounds of freshly dug dirt, with a single sunflower seed planted on each. It wasn't right, they didn't belong here among the flowers. They should have been curried alongside her ancestors, high upon the mountain top. They should each have a memory stone. They should be dancing with her ancestors, to have family taking care of them after death until she one day joined them.
Instead they were here, being buried alone. What had she done to anger the Sun God so? Since coming to SunClan she had tried to be obedient, to ensure that his wishes had been carried out. Yes she had made a mistake with Leatherfern, but had ended things. Was this her punishment? To have her kits ripped away before she could even meet them...
Why? Why would he punish them for her deeds? It had been her mistake, not theirs. She could handle the rough pregnancy, she could handle the nightmares, she could have been content with the Sun God having killed her during the kitting. Yet here he she was, gazing upon her newborns graves.

Even as she grieved, three kittens appeared, sitting on the graves that had just been created for them. On the first, sat Peacekit, a small tom with thick brown fur and a stature that one day would have rivaled the tallest in the clans. The second held Hopekit, similar in color and fur length to her brother, but so, so much smaller. The last, Faithkit, had her mother's coloring, though with fur so short she'd never have been truly comfortable in her father's clan. Almost as soon as they appeared, the kits left the mounds, kitten blue eyes alight as they tumbled around with each other for a few moments, the translucent spirits seemingly oblivious to the presence of their grieving mother not two tail's length away.
The carefree laughter lasted only a few heartbeats, however, before all three, straightened, the scene before them shifting like rippling water. Suddenly, the thin strip of land that separated StarClan from the Isle of the Chosen stretched before the graves, the sunny grasslands and forests of SunClan's afterlife able to be seen on the peninsula in the distance. On the land, stood a familiar face, a being of fire and strength, with thick gold shaded fur and burning eyes, though his gaze was soft and gentle in such a way as could only be seen in the presence of kits.
He approached, slowly, and with a welcoming presence, the kits looking up at him without a hint of question in their eyes, as if they had long known the deity before them, and he were their trusted friend. "It's time to go." The Sun told them, offering no explanation, as none was necessary.
"Are you sure we can't stay?" Little Faithkit asked, her voice innocent and musical, like a summer's breeze. There was some measure of hope in the tiny kitten's gaze, though she seemed to already know the answer, which was only confirmed by the Sun's slight nod.
"Alright, let's go! I'll race you, Hopekit!" Peacekit broke the tension with a wide grin, the first to get up and bound after the large cat before them, the Sun God already turning and waving them to follow with a slight twitch of his tail.
"No fair, you got a head start!" The brown she-kit protested, the falsely annoyed Hopekit rising to rush after her brother, with Faithkit following at a much more reasonable pace and sticking close to the Sun, all three kits and the deity now headed for the Isle of the Chosen in the distance.
She almost missed it, as the souls of her kits began to appear. One by one the three kits materialized before her, their shrill laughter ringing in her ears. "Peacekit, Faithkit, Hopekit" she called to them, but it was as if they couldn't hear her. She raced to them, her paw desperatly reaching out to touch them as they played, but each time her paw only went through the ghostly figures.
Then the storm began to fade away, as a bright light filled the sun flower fields as the line between StarClan and the island appeared. Her eyes widened, as the Sun God appeared. At first she said nothing, simply watching as he spoke to them. Until his words sunk in
"No don't take them" she pleaded. Tears still streamed for her face as she bounded forwards, never able to quite reach them. "Take me, take me. It was my mistake not theirs. Don't punish them. Please... take me instead. Let me take their place, let them live"

It was only Littlebird's pleading that seemed to register, the Sun God pausing at the sound of her crying, his head turning to face her with a sympathetic smile. "Punish them for what? They've done nothing wrong, and neither have you." His words were gentle and certain, a reassurance to the Promised that none of this had been caused by some failure on her part. The kitting itself had been doomed from the start; the Promised was young yet, and the litter had simply taken too much of a toll on her body. It had nothing to do with the she-cat's relationship with Leatherstar, though he knew she didn't quite believe that.
By this point, the kittens had seemed, finally, to notice their mother, and they faced her now. Faithkit was the first to walk towards her mother, closing the distance Littlebird hadn't been able to. "Don't cry, mama! We'll be okay." She stood on her hind legs, reaching up as high as she was able to brush away her mother's tears with her gray paws. Her touch was light and soft, but it was most definitely there.
"If they have done nothing wrong, they why are you taking them from me?" she questioned, her voice tight with grief and despair. "The should be with their siblings, they were not even given a chance at life. Please, please spare them. I will do anything, let me take their place. Give them a chance at life" she knew what she asked was impossible, and yet she asked anyways. She couldn't bare the thought of loosing them forever,
She leaned into her daughter's touch, as she nuzzle against the fur of her neck and pulled her close. It felt so real, she felt so warm "Baby, I'm not ready to loose you, any of you. You haven't even got to see our world, to grow, to live"

"The price for a life is a life, and you have only one to give, Littlebird." The Sun God replied softly. "These kits were never destined to open their eyes alongside their littermates, through no fault of anyone. Don't forget you have two living children, a mate, and a clan who need you among the living. Live your life well, for those who never got the opportunity." Theoretically, if she had the lives to give, her children could be revived. As it was, the Promised had not yet been granted her nine lives, and thus, would need to abandon everything to raise only one of the kitten's before her. And how could she be expected to choose between them? It was a situation that had no winning, and by the time she had the lives to spare, the chance to raise her kits would be long, long gone.
The two other kits made their way to their mother as the Sun spoke, with Hopekit wrapping herself around one of Littlebird's legs, while Peacekit nuzzled against her side for the only time the queen would be able to truly experience the touch of her kits as if they were alive. "We'll make sure to come visit you on the Summer Solstice!" The tomkit assured, peering up at her with wide eyes.
"Yeah, and you can show us around, right? Then we can all play together!" Hopekit agreed enthusiastically, wishing she could stop the tears as Faithkit was trying in vain to do.
If there had been a way to revive all three kits, she would have done so right then and there with no hesitation. Skipstep would have cared for them, and Foxstar would have found another promised. Sure they may have missed her, but she would gladly given her life for theirs. But it wasn't meant to be... If the Sun God could not bring them back, no one could. She wanted to scream, she wanted to waltz up to the Sun God and force him to do something, anything to save them.
Instead she lovingly gazed down at the three kits pressed up against here. They weren't afraid, in fact they were the ones trying to comfort her. She didn't want their last memory of her to be of her crying. "It's a promise" she meowed as she lowered her head and licked each of them on their head. She forced herself to put on a brave face and smile, though inside she was falling apart.

Each kitten smiled up at her in their turn, giggling or pawing at her in mock protest as she licked them, their faces pure and sweet in the way young children were, no traces of fear or worry on their faces. After all, they knew where they were going, that they would be perfectly safe and cared for, and that they'd see Littlebird again, whether it was for a day during the solstice, or for eternity when she joined them once and for all. To them, it would be a drop in the bucket of time, even if it seemed like an eternity for their mother.
"Say hello to papa, for us!" Peacekit told her, before finally, finally separating himself from her and returning to the Sun God's side, ready to go.
"And our littermates too!" Hopekit included with a grin, already back to chasing her brother around.
"We'll be looking for everyone on the solstice! See you soon." Faithkit agreed, running her paws against her mother's face one last time before even she turned away.
And the four of them headed for the Isle of the Chosen once more, the kits carefree and happy as could be.
The rain returned gradually, the warmth and scenery fading until the kittens were but a speck in the distance, and then gone altogether. With the rain came the cold and the graves, the only signs that Littlebird hadn't dreamt the entire thing being that each mound of dirt had four tiny, perfect pawprints where each of the Promised's children had sat. Though now, she was completely, entirely alone once more.
