Natalia lied by the stream south of SummerClan's territory, where all sorts of rogues and loners called their home. She had not many of them, but signs of their activity were not sparse. She took hints where she could and avoided uncertain territory, sticking to the stream where she could get food when she hungered and finding safe places to rest when not there. It was getting more and more difficult for her to avoid others, however, even with her strict adherence to avoiding scent markers. Food was always going to be a challenge for those who lived in the wild, especially during Leafbare. The stream would likely freeze over, and that would make the current gig she had a little hard to keep up.
Soon she'd be competing for that which hides under the snow instead of that which swims in the stream. At least when it wasn't cold there seemed enough to go around to the point where she never ran into any trouble. And when that happened, she'd have to rely on the skills she gained while in a place far away. Natalia wasn't looking forward to when the need would arise to battle again. She'd prefer the day never come, but that was an unrealistic expectation of the young she-cat. Fights would come, fights ALWAYS came. That was just life.
Pulling herself out of her scattered thoughts, Natalia looked into the cold water, looking to catch something quick and easy. When she didn't spot it, she stood and began to pace down the stream. She would avoid going North when possible, to avoid the Clan cats. They'd likely push farther South this season, so she'd have to adjust her hunting locations. It wouldn't be too bad, right? She fixed her gaze on the stream to track anything that moved.
The sound of approaching paw steps preceded the arrival of a slim black she-cat with ice blue eyes. She was on the same side of the bank as Natalia but didn't seem to notice the loner until she almost tripped over the fellow she-cat. Jumping back startled she apologized. "Ack, I'm sorry for almost running over you. I wasn't looking where I was going." Storm as the she-cat was called said hurriedly.

Natalia jumped, nearly falling in before she scrambled to her paws, facing the she-cat, low to the ground. How had she not heard her approach? Was she that distracted by hunger?
Storm made sure to keep her stance as friendly and uncombative as possible to reassure the startled she-cat. "Sorry again." she murmured. "I'm Storm." she said simply, not really going to the trouble of explaining just who she was. She smelled enough of SummerClan that most cats might mistake her as a member but she had an underlying scent to her that was just different enough that identified her as not quite belonging to the clan.

Natalia noted the uncombative stance and rose from her crouch slightly. Maybe this didn't have to be a fight.
"Natalia." She responded tersely. "I knew you cats would come South but I didn't expect it this soon..." She figured Storm was of SummerClan based on scent alone. There was a small hint that planted a seed of doubt in Natalia's mind, but hunger rose over that.
"I'll move farther down South to hunt. I'm not trying to step on toes."
"SummerClan doesn't lay claim to any of the lands south of the river no matter the time of year. There's no reason for you to move if you don't want to." Storm told her. "I didn't mean to almost trip on you, just the easiest place to cross this river is near where you were laying and I wasn't paying enough attention to my surroundings. Being on the surface is different from the tunnels."

"Tunnels?" Natalia asked. "I was unaware there were tunnels around here, even less aware that SummerClan cats lived in them." She didn't know much about the Clan at all to be honest, attempting her best to live and let live and not get competitive.
"There are tunnels underground that spread across all the clan territories." Storm said. "As for SummerClan, no they don't live underground, the group I'm a member of and that are allies of SummerClan live in the tunnels beneath SummerClan."

"Noted." Natalia said. She now knew to stay away from tunnels around here. They wouldn't be safe for her to dive into during into a blizzard if it meant having to confront other cats. That narrowed possibilities. She still wasn't prepared for the winter at all, and things were looking grim for her situation.
"As long as you don't cause trouble, there's no issue with you using the tunnels for shelter. Only the ones directly beneath SummerClan are regularly used and patrolled." Storm said, seeming to read her mind, though it was more in the way she responded to her comment than anything else. It had already been a cold start to leaf-bare, especially for SummerClan who was known for having much more milder winters than what this one had already started out to be.

This was a blessing for Natalia. If she could find a tunnel to hole up in she would not only be safe from the elements but likely other cats as well. If she avoided the ones right under those Clan cats she could be left alone in peace. That only left food as the issue...
"Appreciated." Natalia said. She wasn't going to ask Storm about food. Food meant competition, and she wasn't about to step up to fight over hunting territory with someone who was part of a bigger group.
