Cottonkit sat Wintrystar's scenic crystal between his paws and peered into it. The gem was mostly clear so he could see his paw on the other side, but inside were wisps of various other colors, blues and greens and browns, it reminded him of the mountainside. It was breathtakingly beautiful. No wonder the Sovereign kept it all to herself.
"That's selfish of her." He squeaked quietly, picking up the crystal and making his way across camp. It wasn't fair that such a stunning crystal could only be worn by Wintrystar! There were other cats that could wear it even better than her! And he was going to give this gem to one of them!
Eyes settling on the heavily scarred pelt of Ditypaw, Cottonkit scampered over to her and sat the precious gem down between her paws.
"I got this for you it'll look so pretty with your ears and eyes!!"

Dirtypaw had been off on her own, practicing her hunting crouch as she had been instructed to. Even though they were stuck in camp by the snows, she had to either be searching fluffypaw who was asleep in the apprentice's den or practicing. She had been holding the position until her legs ached, but she dare not stop less she face the punishment of her mother. Her momma wanted her to be strong, so she would be. She had just been about to pounce when a young kit came running over with something shiny in it's paw. She didn't pay it much attention, until the tom sat what it was carrying between her paws. At first she smiled gently, but when she got a closer look panic began to set in... was this.. this.... her fur began to bristle
Fear took over "NO!!!" she squeaked batting away the gem in her panic. This was the sovereign's gem that only wintrystar could wear, who knew what would happen if she got caught with it. The gem went flying through the air, a series of loud pings could be heard as it bounced off the stones
Cottonkit's fluffy white fur stood on end as Dirtypaw punted the scenic crystal across the ground; he had not been expecting that. Hurriedly he retrieved the crystal and approached Dirtypaw once more, but this time he was slightly more cautious, he didn't want her to knock it away again.
"Why did you do that, Dirtypaw? I guess I did give it to you really fast, it couldn't been a porcupine maybe, haha... It's just a pretty crystal, see?" He moved his paw away to reveal it once more. He didn't see it but there was a tiny hairline crack running from end to end, evidently from the fall it had just taken, "Nothing to be 'fraid of! Will you wear it please?"

Dirtypaw only became more frightened as he unveiled the crystal once more, this time with crack "DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND" she glanced around wildly, trying to find a way out "That's Wintrystar's crystal, and she will have both of our pelts for her nest" her fur bristled outwards in panic "That is her leadership crystal you can't just take that"
Cottonkit was to young to know the cruelty of their leader, as flashbacks of her exorcism came to mind. Lying their helpless as she was bled out, her fate left to the gods to decide. Underneathe all the grime of her coat, raised scars could still be felt across her back from where the runes had been carved into her "Wintrystar will kill me for this..."
