Stay awake... he had to stay awake. It was the only way that he was going to survive the rest of the night. Mangledpaw swallowed dryly as he tried once more to sway himself towards the narrow ledge. All he needed was to grab it, and then he could climb to the top of the ravine where he could limp home to his parents and siblings. He just had to stay calm, and stay awake. But the moment he shifted, his entire body ignited with a searing, white hot pain that caused the young tom to let out a loud cry. Tears streamed down his cheeks, some quickly freezing in the bitter cold. Mangledpaw quickly bit down hard on his tongue once more. The sharp taste of iron filled his mouth, and he could feel the open wound reopen. The blood mingled with his crusted fur, dripping down his legs. His body shook from the shock as he hung limply from the thin, jagged rock that had pierced his flesh and left him hanging above a steep drop that would have surely killed him. He would have rather fallen to his death than suffer through this.
The young apprentice looked up at the top of the ravine. What had happened? He had been out searching for food, hunting whatever he could find that wasn’t already hibernating. It was late, he had to admit, but would that have stopped a warrior? He didn’t think so and he needed to help provide for his family. Mangledpaw shouldn’t have been that close to the ravine. He knew it was dangerous. The black furred tom didn’t know what possessed him to get closer to the edge. He was smarter than that. But he thought he had heard someone down there. He should have known that it was a trick of the wind. It was always howling down in the ravine, he wasn’t sure why he thought this time would be any different. He wasn’t sure what happened next, but suddenly he was screaming as he fell, plunging down straight to his death. The gods must have been using him for their amusement. They couldn’t offer him a quick death at the bottom of the ravine. They just had to impale him instead. His scruff had gotten caught on a jagged rock that was jutting out from the cliff side. The pain was unbearable, and it left him breathless.
Mangledpaw screamed for help, screamed for someone to put him out of his misery. He kept screaming until his throat was raw and his voice scratchy hoping that if he didn’t attract one of his siblings or another Winterclan cat that he would attract a predator that would help end his suffering. But no one came. No one had realized he was missing. He was left to hang there, in pain and wishing for death as night fell and cloaked the mountains in its darkness. He glanced down below him again. It was a far drop... but it was an even further climb to the top of the ravine. But he was stuck. Surprisingly, the jagged rock was able to hold his weight. His reptilian yellow eyes glanced back up towards the sky. Towards freedom... Mangledpaw licked his lips once more. He had to try one more time.
“Somebody! Anybody! Help!” He screamed, louder then he ever screamed before, praying that someone would be able to finally hear his cries.
(Nova Just pinging you since I know this thread is old since I was absent)
Mangledpaw was able to hear movement from above, then sure enough voices could be heard, trying to locate where the calls were coming from. His family was close by, but when Howlingnight came closer, noticing Mangledpaw's broken body he instead herded Mangledpaw's family away rather than point him out. It was night by the time Blazingbluejay returned to where she knew she had heard her sons calls. He still hadn't returned home, but when she looked down she let out a gasp, "Mangledpaw, hey, it's your mama, it's okay," Blazingbluejay soothed him as she paced along the edges, trying to find a way down the steep side, but there was no way down. "Sweetie, do you see any ledges below you?" She asked, trying to keep her voice calm, someone had to stay calm, although she wasn't sure if it was going to be her. WinterClan didn't want to help her family as is, but with this impossible rescue she doubted anyone would give her resources to save him.

(Faith no worries! I’ve been crazy busy too, I totally get it!)
Mangledpaw had started to lose consciousness. He thought that he had heard voices above him, but he couldn’t be sure. Perhaps they belonged to the gods of Winterclan. Maybe he was dying and they were coming to set him free from the pain that riddled his body. As night fell, however, a familiar voice reached his ears. His eyes shot up and he quickly looked up, as best as he could, to find her. “Mom!” He screamed, tears welling in his eyes. “Mom, it hurts!” Mangledpaw screamed. Blazingbluejay had sounded so calm, and the black-furred apprentice wished he could have been as calm as she was.
“I can’t see anything...!” Mangledpaw called up to her. “It’s just one long drop...! I’m sorry!” He cried. “I shouldn’t have been so close to the ravine, I didn’t think I’d end up falling..! It hurts to move! I don’t know what to do!”
"Okay, okay, oh sweetie," She cooed, still anxiously looking over the edge, but finally moved away, "I'm going to get more cats to help, mamas coming right back," She promised him before turning tail and running back to WinterClan camp.
Later
"Hurry," Blazingbluejay hissed.
Howlingnight leisurely walked behind Blazingbluejay with little effort of urgency. He had already seen the kid down below, truthfully, he thought the guy was dead or at the very least, as good as dead. Nonetheless he ventured to the edge, staring down. He pretended to study the demon for a moment longer before turning to Blazingbluejay, "Ma'am, he's a lost cause, better to mourn early than waste anymore time with the prospect that he might somehow live."
"DON'T MA'AM ME! He's trapped down there, do something Howl, you're his family too," Blazingbluejay reasoned, swatting her claws at the large toms face.
"Hey, okay! Listen, I know I'm pretty uncaring, but I'm not even trying to be cruel. This is the fact, he's trapped down there. There's nothing I can do without risking someone else's life and honestly it probably won't even work. He's stuck."
There was a moment of silence before Mangledpaw could feel small pebbles fall onto his face and a slight whimper from above him. Blazingbluejay had just about shoved Howlingnight off of the ravine, with the tom barely clinging on, his back legs scrapping against the edges.
"I would save you, but you're kind of a lost cause," Blazingbluejay reasoned, already walking away.
"You would leave your son here without any comfort!?" Howlingnight asked accusingly.
"I think that you're going to fall and that when you do Wintrystar will use all of WinterClan's power to save you. Then my son," Blazingbluejay said before stepping away to report back to Wintrystar.
Howlingnight hissed, trying his best to cling onto the edge, it was just him and Mangledpaw now, hanging on for their lives.

“Wait mom! Don’t go!” Mangledpaw screamed, but his mother was already gone. The impaled apprentice was left along once again, his tears freezing against his fur as a harsh wind seemed to blow from under him. He prayed to the gods that his mother would come back. It was a while later before he could hear her voice again.
Mangledpaw wanted to call out to her again, to hear her voice and listen to her as she said he would be okay... even if he wasn’t. Mangledpaw flicked his ears, listening carefully to his mother. Howlingnight? She had brought Wintrystar’s mate?! The apprentice looked up towards the top of the ravine, narrowing his reptilian eyes to try and focus on their silhouettes. He could hear them arguing just a bit and his heart dropped. Howlingnight was going to leave him here... Mangledpaw bit back a small whimper as he dared a glance below. He was afraid. He didn’t want to die. Not like this.
He winced at the silence that followed them, wondering for a moment if they had really left him. Mangledpaw shook his head as pebbles cascaded down on him. The apprentice quickly looked up, thinking he’d see the familiar face of his mother, only to come face to face with Howlingnight. “M-Mom?” Mangledpaw questioned as he glanced back up towards the ravine. But Blazingbluejay was gone, and he was left with Wintrystar’s mate. Part of him wanted to apologize to the tom that was now in a precarious situation as well, but he thought that keeping his mouth shut would be better.
Howlingnight scrambled a bit more before giving up, deciding it would be better to reserve her strength for a few minutes before trying to climb out again. As silence took hold he spoke, this time directly to Mangledpaw, "I was abused like you are too, not for as long though. You'll get through it and if you know what's good for you the moment you see an opportunity to leave you'll take it and you won't come back. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll make it. There's literally no way for any force on earth to save you. If you were my kit I'd die trying to save you, but I still wouldn't be able to. I think maybe you should say some final words to your mom and when you're feeling brave you can drop knowing that your moms up there looking out for you. But you shouldn't die slowly, impaled and starving. Of course falling isn't instant as most people believe it is, but it's still faster," Howlingnight reasoned before realizing he wasn't helping, "my point is, we can't save you, your moms never going to come to terms with that, the best you can do is not let yourself suffer."
Using his new restored strength he clambered up, back to the top, "I'll get your mom for you, alright?"

Mangledpaw looked back up at him, his ears twitching weakly as he listened to Howlingnight. The black-pelted tom had convinced himself that there was probably no hope for him. But then his mother had found him and a small spark of hope ignited in his chest once more. It was smothered out as Howlingnight said there was no hope for him. Mangledpaw looked back down, staring at the ground below. It was too dark to see what was awaiting him at the bottom. Jutting rocks? An iced over body of water? Or just flat, icey ground? He wasn’t sure what would be more painful. Drowning, more impalement, or having all his bones broken at once. The apprentice could only nod weakly, having zoned out a bit until the soverign’s mate said he’d find Blazingbluejay. But Mangledpaw didn’t want his mother to watch him fall. He wanted to spare her that image... but he’d break her heart either way.
He wasn’t sure how long he had been on his own again. That didn’t matter to him. His reptilian eyes narrowed as he took a deep breath, readying himself for what was to come. Mangledpaw began to rock his body again, gaining as much momentum as he could to swing on the rock that impaled him. He bit down on his tongue as he muffled a pained yowl the moment he managed to rip the frozen skin away from the frozen rock surface. But he couldn’t stop there. Mangledpaw continued to swing his body forward, inching further and further towards the edge of the ledge. Then he suddenly lurched forward.
CRACK
His heart stopped. He had slid himself towards the thinner part of the jagged rock piece. It was no longer able to support his weight. Well... at least he didn’t have to force his mother to watch. Mangledpaw wished he had more time with her. It felt as though they were just reunited... he shouldn’t have been so mad at her...
CRACK
Mangledpaw couldn’t help but wince as it cracked once more. Finally, it gave way. The apprentice couldn’t hold back the scream that escaped him as he plunged down towards the dark abyss, where the gods would surely be there to take him to a better place
(I'll just fas forward to when he wakes up back at camp, but if you're not cool with that just let me know and I'll edit my reply, it's no problem!)
"He doesn't get food if he doesn't work and he doesn't receive treatment if he's not a person, which he isn't, he's a demon," Dottymask explained firmly.
"He's a WinterClan cat, he's hurt, he needs treatment," Blazingbluejay begged.
"You're the one that took my kits away from me, I raised Mangledpaw, now he's not mine anymore. You're going to have to learn as I did how to work your way around this," Dottymask replied pointedly, but there was twinge of hurt in her tone, like a frozen piece of her exterior had chipped off revealing the warmth below. Even with her abuse to the demon litter she did, in a twisted way love them.
Mangledpaw could feel the heavy vibrations as Howlingnight padded over into the witches den, "I told you to get him out of here, no one's going to help him, he's just blocking space."
Blazingbluejay stood for a moment before tugging Mangledpaw by the scruff, pulling him out of the witches den in defeat. "We'll figure something out, bud," Blazingbluejay promised, her paws tracing over his, thinking carefully for any option.
"Are you awake yet?" Rottenpaw asked, leaning over to look at his mangled brother, now living up to his name fully.
"Rotten, we wouldn't want him to wake up in this amount of pain," Blazingbluejay scolded lightly.

(No problemo!!)
Mangledpaw wasn’t sure what was going on. His eyes had remained open, though they were glazed over. One pupil was narrowed into a dangerous slit, but the other was so dilated that it nearly washed away the yellow-gold of his iris. He hung from his mother’s jaws limply, barely aware that she or anyone else was there. Mangledpaw couldn’t even flinch as parts of his exposed flesh brushed against the ground. He remained unmoving, stuck in what seemed like a comatose state.
What had happened? The last thing he remembered was falling. It had almost seemed endless until he landed. The fall didn’t kill him, but he wished it did. His entire body burned with a white hot pain that was indescribable. Mangledpaw was certain that he broke, if not all, most of the bones in his body. He could taste the blood on his tongue, feel it trickle down from his nose and onto the frozen ground beneath him. Merciful gods above... just grant me a quick death... please...
But his prayer had gone unheard, not that he was surprised. Instead, they had sent him rats. Mangledpaw couldn’t move as they swarmed him, gnawing and chewing at every part of him. He couldn’t even scream. All he could do was lay there, tears streaming down his face until he eventually grew numb to the pain. Even now he could hear them, feel them crawling on his body. Mangledpaw shook, his lips twitching and curling as he started mumbling to himself.
“Everywhere... all around... rats, rats... hungry... they’re hungry... feed them...” He muttered incessantly as his eyes focused on nothing but everything at the same time. “Disgusting... vile... everywhere... everywhere....!” His voice became hysteric, quickly curling up into himself as his eyes darted back and forth. “Shadows... came from the shadows... hungry... always hungry never fulll...!”
Blazingbluejay helped Mangledpaw all the way back to their home in the side of the hill. The only safe residence for their family.
Inside the ground was soft thanks to the small hot springs hole in the center of the den. The hole was covered with long twigs to keep anyone from accidentally falling in as well as regulating the amount of steam. Gingerly Blazingbluejay tucked Mangledpaw into his nest, resting warm moss over his body and fore head, "Hush now and have a good sleep," She whispered to him.
Giving Mangledpaw a warm lick across the cheek she turned to Rottenpaw, "I need to go hunt for the family so you need to be a good brother and look after him now," She said before turning to the covered den entrance. Waiting for a few heartbeats she listened for any signs that someone might be lurking outside of their hidden den before venturing out.
Rottenpaw looked back at his brother, they both had the same reptilian looking eyes, only Mangledpaws were just a bit brighter with yellow than his own amber colored gaze. Cautiously he stepped over to his brother to check if he was awake before curling up next to his nest, "I don't know why you're acting weird even for a traumatic thing, but... I'll be here for you even if you're acting a bit crazy so long as you're here for me if I get a bit crazy okay?" He whispered quietly to his brother, not even entirely sure if he was awake.
