Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Fireflyfrenzy had a lot to think about these days. After all, a lot had happened to her since she had come to the clan. She and Cradlegrave had encountered that horrendous... thing, there was a change in leadership, and love was fresh in the crisp cool air. She didn't exactly know where she sat with all of this, but she did feel a tinge of loneliness. The events in the camp had reminded her that she had come to SwiftClan displaced, and chances were, Frenzy still was displaced. Maybe she'd always be displaced. She didn't like the idea of that really, never finding her center, never replacing her family, living her entire life with one foot out the door. But, on the other hand, there was something comforting about being able to survive on your own, no?
Peachblush was still depressed about Fuzzyheart, and that was all the self-contemplation his inner monologue allowed. "Hi Frenzy," he said mildly, sitting beside her and licking a paw. "You're looking a little lost."
She startled slightly, before turning her gaze to the tom. She offered him a weak smile and a shrug of her shoulders. "Oh, hey, Peachblush," she returned his greeting with a similar inflection. She then let out a soft sigh. "Oh, you know. The weather's been dreary lately. Amplified with the love fest of SwiftClan, it must just be making me a little melancholic," she mewed half dismissively, not quite sure how else to articulate it.
Peachblush nodded. "Yes, I can understand that." Personally, he'd gotten so excited at the Proposalgeddon that he'd almost spontaneously combusted, but there had been a definite sense of depression that lingered long after the celebrations. "Have you ever been involved with someone long-term, Frenzy?"
Frenzy tilted her head slightly at the question. She had never really been questioned about her past- most just took her as any other SwiftClan cat, just suddenly there. "Back in my prime, there was a gal that ran with my family. She was the closest thing to a relationship I've ever had, and between you and me, I don't think it was much of a relationship at all." Back in her prime was an odd sentence, especially because she wasn't that old. "Maybe one day that will change, but for now, it's just me." She didn't really think it would change, but she'd grow to accept it if it didn't. After all, there were other ways to feel included, right?
"How about you?" She asked, tipping her head to the side in curiousity. She thought he had, but she didn't know any of the details. Part of keeping mostly to yourself after the trauma of a chimp attack was that she didn't know much about any of her clanmates.
"Only once," Peachblush sighed, "but he's....he's no longer in the equation." He paused for a beat, composed himself. "That's why I'm here in SwiftClan now, actually. I decided I needed a change of scenery, so I'm doing double duty in SwiftClan and DayClan."
"I'm sorry to hear that." She sounded genuine; she knew the hurt of losing someone close, even if she hadn't experienced it with someone she had been romantically engaged with. "A change of scenery is how I got here, too. I was told it was the perfect place for someone who just needed to get away from it all for a while." Her tail tip flicked. She wanted to say more, to provide some sort of comfort, but she was never good at that. "Double duty, is that double the work and half the fun?"
Peachblush's eyes gleamed. "Certainly is," he said, "but it's also double the prey, and double the amount of leader turnover." His whiskers twitched. "It's strange, both SwiftClan and DayClan getting new leaders around the same time. It makes one wonder if the whole thing isn't a conspiracy, or a sham." Even if it wasn't quite conspiracy-level, Peachblush at least knew it was a sham.
"I've noticed that leader turnover rates have been higher in the forest than I remember them being when I was young," she agreed. "I'm betting it's a sham, but who knows. I love a good conspiracy theory." She chuckled, mostly to herself. "Logic tells me it's just a transition period, but logic's never very fun." Her whiskers twitched slightly in her own amusement. It was nice to have ac conversation with someone, even if she'd yet to really break from small talk.
"It's definitely a sham," Peachblush agreed, turning his attention to grooming with his other paw. "I'm a few years older than you, aren't I? I remember a time in SpringClan history where there were about five leaders in as many months. Dark times, that." He neglected to mention that he himself had been one of those leaders, and the reason for at least one of those quick turnovers. Ah, lying by omission. My old friend.
Frenzy nodded. "Yeah, probably. This is my... third winter? Somethin' like that." She had been born in the cusp of autumn, which meant that this was only just barely her third. Two winters with her family, one since. Her eyes widdened as he continued. " Five ?" She seemed surprised. "I thought you clan cats were supposed to be a little bit more stable than living on the run, but I guess not. I guess I get it, though. Leading a band of cats through a string of calamities has got to get old after a while, eh?"
Peachblush let out a short huff of air, too straight-faced to be a proper laugh. "Yeah, I don't know where everyone keeps getting the stability thing from." Everyone but him, apparently. He thought of Absum Lux as Frenzy kept talking. "Leaders have to take care of themselves too, I suppose."
"That's how they trick the folks like me that want some structure in their life, want to have some semblance of an idea of what's going on, but don't want to do it for themselves. Then, ya get here, and on your first week there's a monkey and in the third the leader steps down. Not sure it's exactly what the sales pitch suggested I was signing up for." Her smile was becoming more and more authentic as they continued. "That's gotta be a struggle though. You or your clan, especially if the interests don't line up." It was becoming clearer and clearer that she really didn't know who she was talking to, or that he'd led twice (?) and probably had some sort of conflict somewhere.
Peachblush nodded. "I think it's important to know when to cut your losses and walk away." Maybe if more leaders did that, did what he did, there would end up being less turnover overall. Maybe he was just looking for a reason to excuse his actions. He didn't know what the monkey thing was about, though. "Maybe that's another reason SwiftClan appealed to me for a little vacation. Everyone's always coming-and-going. Membership turnover, almost. Reminds me of someone," he added darkly.
"You sound like you say that from experience," she commented softly. She was too dumb to realize how, or the connection between the fact that this conversation had been about leaders about six seconds ago. "Reminds you of who?" This was much more interesting. "You familiar with membership turnover?"
Peachblush snorted. "A little bit of experience, yes," he replied. "As for membership turnover...not exactly. I don't know if you've pegged me as one yet, but I'm something of a Clan-hopper."
She chuckled to herself with a shrug. "I'm a bit oblivious more often than I'm not," she admitted, "not that that's probably very surprising to you I wouldn't think." Her whiskers twitched as she considered what he said. "I feel like you're trying to tell me somethin', but I can't tell what."
"What? Me? Be cryptic?" Peachblush clapped a paw over his mouth in mock surprise. "I would never do that. I'm a very straight-forward man." Messing with cats is kind of fun, he thought. Maybe I should've let my mean side out a little more.
"That's exactly what someone who wasn't straight-forward would say," she replied with narrowed eyes. "So, what is it? A secret no man can survive? A long lost daughter? Did ya kill someone?" Should she pry? Probably not, but this was kind of fun.
"I do have some daughters, but they're not really long-lost," Peachblush mused, "and I've killed cats before, but not in a murder-ey way. Keep on guessing, this is fun."
