Jetfire passed the moss ball that she rolled over to Fawnkit "I thought that we could play a little game" she purred warmly, hoping that this might work. Anytime her daughter got work up her heart would nearly start beating, and everyone had been on her case about Fawnkit's behavior. It wasn't really her fault, she was just a kit who didn't know how to manage her emotions "First I want you to squeeze this as tightly as you can. You can even dig your claws in if you want" it was simple enough, but Firetooth hovering near by probably would tip her daughter off that this was more than just a game. Fawnkit needed some coping mechanism that she could control, but she couldn't help but worry that they were pushing her to far JadieGidgetGalCleaver
Ghostcrown laid down a short distance from the queen and kit, resting his head on his paws as he kept a careful eye on their game. He had been spending most of his time with them lately, and he hoped the kits were growing used to his presence, but right now he didn't want to be a distraction. Firetooth had work to do, and he needed to stay out of the way.
As he watched, it occurred to him that they were probably going to need more than one mossball - if he guessed correctly where this game was headed. He rose and slipped quietly out of the den, finding his own nest out in the side of the ditch to pull clumps of moss away from, which he carried back inside and started to form into more small balls.
Fawnkit's eyes glowed when she saw the moss ball and she immediately dropped into a crude hunter's crouch, stalking it as carefully as she could manage on her shaky kitten legs. Normally she got scolded for shredding moss balls but this rare moment of permission was like putting a kid in the candy store. She unsheathed her claws and promptly reduced the ball to nothing but a few pieces.
"Did I do good, mommy?" She looked up when she was finished, little flecks of green "guts" splattered across her muzzle. She was way too cute for her own good.

"Yes, very good" she purred nuzzled against her neck "Now mommy is going to keep you some mossballs here by our nest. When ever you start to get upset, I want you to come back here and do the same thing instead of crying" she nosed her gently "We are going to start work on ways to help you deal with your emotions a little bit better. I know how scary it is when your heart hurts like that"
Firetooth hovered over the pair from a distance, shifting his weight awkwardly as he watched Queen and kit interact. While he mostly had the rest of Jetfire's litter under control, he and Fawnkit tended to butt heads more often than not. The Medicine Cat was so used to speaking his mind and saying exactly what he thought without consequence, which never went over well with a little she-cat whose immediate response to any slight against her was screaming at the top of her lungs and having a panic attack. He had to admit though, Jetifre's idea with the mossball had some legs, at least for the short-term. "When your heart starts to hurt, the bad effects aren't immediate," he finally meowed from the shadows. "Which means that we can teach you ways to calm yourself, so you don't have to pass out and run immediately to the Medicine Den. We'll...work together on this, so one day you can be the best warrior you can be. Does that sound agreeable, Fawnkit?"
"Silly Firetoof, I can't pass out and run to the medicine cat den at the same time," Fawnkit, smart but still very much a child, totally missed the point of her parents' words and of course focused on their errors. There was nothing she liked more than to prove she knew better than a grown-up, "Anyways, mama, do they have to be moss balls? These are awfully messy and besides I like to play wif them. Maybe... a bunny pelt! Or... a water corn dogs!" He blue eyes grew wide at that second idea and her tail started to flick back and forth, "Oh, can I have one of the corny dogs please, I saw someone playing with one and they looked like so much fun! Oh please please please!"

(me trying to figure out what a water corndog is...) Jetfire chuckled "No it doesn't have to be a moss ball, I just thought you would enjoy it. We can find something else for you" she wasn't exactly sure what a water corny dog was.... but she supposed she would be finding out soon enough
"Okay, when will I get my new toy? I just took a big nap and wanna pway so right now is a good time!" Despite her mother's moss ball training, Fawnkit was already setting herself up for a full on tantrum if no one provided her with her water corn dog ASAP. She looked up at her mother with big, innocent blue eyes, already looking slightly more watery than they had moments ago, "You do have one for me, right?"

Jetfire straightened up, contemplating the best way to handle this. She didn't want to make any sort of false promises "We will look for one together" she reassured her, but didn't say that she would give her one "Where do you think we can find one of these water corn dogs?" GidgetGal
