Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Smallfire looked at the half dozen kittens that wandered around the nursery, and there was a pride in her eyes, one that was only intensified by the fact that two of the kittens that had recently occupied this den were now promoted to the big leagues. She never would admit it to anyone else, but there was something different about Springpaw and Winterpaw. Perhaps it was the fact that they were her nieces that made her feel strongly.
However, she loved them all, each new addition to her family. Although none of them were her biological kittens, they were her family, just like the tom who sat next to her.
-
Winterpaw peered into the nursery, her tail flicking back and forth. It was weird coming back to this den now that it wasn't where she regularly stayed. "What's up, mama?" she meowed. She figured there was probably a reason that her mother had gotten the whole gang back together, or at least tried.
-
Spicekit looked at the pale grey apprentice, before blinking. "Yeah, mama, what's up?"
Sweetkit had bundled himself up in a nest snuggled up to a few of his other adopted siblings. The oncoming winter causing the ginger tom to stay inside the warmth of the nursery. He wasn't sleeping but was content with just watching the others from his warm nest. Though his ears perked up at the sudden reappearance of their old den-mate, Winterpaw, his honey eyes turning to look at his biological brother now. "What's going on?" he finally chirped in from his current position, his gaze turned upwards to look at their mom.
Smallfire looked at the kittens with a look of adoration in her eyes. "I thought it would be nice if we all were able to get together. All of our family," she meowed, before pressing into the side of her mate. "Now that some of us have been promoted to the next rank, we haven't had time to spend good old family time together," she purred. Her tail swished around. "A family bonding night."
Spicekit glanced over to Sweetkit. They were the newest to the big family, and the young cat didn't look really all that interested in bonding with the others. It wasn't that he was antisocial, he just felt like there were other things that could be doing. "Do we gotta?"
"Let me tell you a secret, young'un," Springpaw interrupted, strolling into the den as if she hadn't just spent all day trying to avoid her family. "In this world, all ya really gotta do is pay your dues to the Clan and die." She glanced around for a second, before blushing faintly and licking a paw. "...So no, I guess."
"You'll do it and you'll have fun," Frewshkit muttered in Spicekit's ear, giving the cocky apprentice a dark look. As the eldest of Smallfire's new litter, he felt a certain responsibility to keep any of them from becoming like Springpaw. He gave his mother a bright smile. "A family bonding night sounds great, mom!"
Winterpaw looked at her sister in amusement. "You sure have become quite the philosopher in your old age," she teased her before flicking her shoulder. "However, you probably shouldn't go around telling the youngin's what they can and can't do. Wouldn't want them to get the wrong idea and have them all end up like you." Her words were airy as they tumbled out of her mouth, a purr erupting from her chest.
"Will I? Will I really?" Spicekit replied to his brother, his amber eyes blinking a characteristic eighteen and a half times. Yeah, one could say that Spicekit was probably the most likely to end up like Springpaw, probably at least.
Midnightcomet was in the process of cleaning the wild child, Sunrisekit. She'd tumbled through the walls of the den, collecting leaves in her pelt and fur in odd places, fairing worse then her siblings she'd been playing with. They were next on his list to be cleaned. When she'd spotted her older sibling coming into the den, she ran out of her father's hold. "Winterpaw! Springpaw!" Sunrisekit was ecstatic to see her sisters again, even if they weren't related by blood, she adored them all.
Midnightcomet gave up on cleaning Sunrisekit's fur for the time being, she'd settle down eventually and he'd get her then. Pressing himself in his mate's side he smiled at Winterpaw, he hadn't gotten to know her much before she'd been promoted and the time he became Smallfire's mate, but that didn't stop him from caring for her and being proud she'd moved on to being an apprentice.
Springpaw's eyes widened slightly as Sunrisekit called out to her and her sister. "Yo," she murmured, giving the kit a small, awkward dip of the yet. People being excited to see her was weird, she decided.
Freshkit shrugged, giving Spicekit a reassuring pat on the shoulder that probably didn't feel very reassuring to the younger tomkit at all. "One could say that you, Spicekit, are probably the most likely to end up like Springpaw," he said with a bland smile. "In fact, I think at least one person has said that exact same thing before."
"Hey now, that's not fair," he meowed at his brother, his chest puffing. "But even if I did end up like her, that ust means she's the coolest cat in the family because I'm the coolest cat in the family, huh?" He said the words in a way that was supposed to be loud and proud, but in reality, he sounded a little indignant. "You're most likely to end up like boring ol' Winterpaw!"
"Sunrisekit," purred Winterpaw, waving her tail at her younger adopted sister. "It's good to see you again! How's the nursery been treating you since we left?"
Smallfire looked at Sunrisekit, then at Midnightcomet. "One day, she'll sit still for long enough to get a good bath," purred the happy mother of what apepared to be about ninety kits at this point. "Probably at least."
"I doubt it." He rolled his eyes, she was a wild child consantly chasing after every ray of sunlight she could find in the world. The poor kit would do anything in the means of fun, laughter, and happiness. Midnightcomet just smiled in good nature, remebering his deceased little sister Sunrise had been the same way. It seems the namesake Sunrise held a certain energy to it, and teh kit was sure living up to it.
Sunrisekit smiled a grin as wide as her face would allow. "It's great, we play games, and play with Dad's tail, and and chase each other--look! I rolled in the leaves and mud outside! But what about being an apprentice? Have you learned any new games! What aboutfightingmoves! Oh!Oh! Whatabouthuntingmoves!" Her words were startiong to blend together in her rapiad speach to hear all about being an apprentice from her older siblings. Midnightcomet coudl be heard laughing at her euthism but it didn't deterour the small kit bby any means.
"Well, then she'll be our perfect little trouble-maker," purred the small she-cat before she looked at her mate. Her family had grown so much in the last few moons. It went from just her, to just her and Pearlykit, to everyone that congregated in this den. Knowing Smallfire, it would grow again as soon as another set of kittens needed her help. She loved Midnightcomet even more for that, his willingness to accept that loving her meant also loving all of the other peewees that came along with her. Her eyes were warm as she looked at him, and it was clear that she felt that she had found her soulmate in the tom. "And we'll just have to deal with that and make sure she doesn't go by anything too breakable." Her voice was a purr, before she glanced at the others.
"Wow!" Winterpaw meowed at the young cat, her eyes growing wide with the kind of wonder you showed an infant. "You guys have so much fun!" Winterpaw enjoyed being around the younger cats, mostly becuase one day, she could see herself with her own litter. Her million-and-a-half adopted brothers and sisters were perfect practice. She then tipped her head. "Well, I don't know what Springpaw does in her training, but Lilyripple and I do a lot of training. I wish we could play more games!" This was a lie. Winterpaw enjoyed her studies. "But I've learned lots of hunting and fighting moves. Maybe we could show you some?"
Sweetkit had been quietly observing from his comfortable spot, not wanting to butt into the conversation worried that he'd say something odd or cut someone off who was trying to say something else. His eyes had bounced around the den as he followed the conversation. The lighthearted joking causing the ginger kit to subconsciously smile, a happy feeling burning in his tiny chest at the home that he and his siblings had been so lucky to find. But, when Winterpaw had mention showing off some training moves Sweekit's ears perked up. "Oh, oh can you show me to please!" he cheerfully squeaked his honey eyes shining with an inquisitive glow.
Winterpaw looked over to Smallfire apologetically. I didn't mean to start this, her gaze seemed to explain, to which their adopted mother laughed.
"You can show them right away, and then in a little bit we can start a game. Does that sound fair?" Smallfire asked, her eyes soft. She loved each and every one of these oversized furballs, and she particularly loved to see them excited. Especially when it came to learning, who was she to stop the kittens.
With that, the apprentice let out a purr. She wasn't necessarily opposed to showing off the moves that she had learned, not in the slightest. "What did you want to learn?" she asked, her voice almost sing-song-y. "There's just so much!"
Midnightcomet laughed, though he hid it behind his tail not wanting to laugh at poor Winterpaw but the apprentice had no idea what she'd just started. The kits would be begging for days to learn all that the apprentices were, even though most of them wouldn't be old enough for another few moons to begin learning that. He could just see them now. "What game are we playing?" Oh, he was forsure joining in, he was a kit at heart and all. Though he'd let the kits win anyway.
Sunrisekit nearly tackled Winterpaw, "yes! Can we start now? I wanna learn everything!" She was excited to be an apprentice, to explore the territory like a warrior. To get in a fight, to hunt prey, everything!
"That isn't very specific," Winterpaw teased, flicking her adopted sister on the head. "How am I supposed to teach you everything when Mom wants us to play a game soon?"
Smallfire looked back from the scene over to Midnightcomet, a smile on her face. Amusement again flickered through her eyes. Of course, her mate would be interested. She leaned over and nuzzled his head, before letting out a sigh, "I was thinking that there was enough of them that we could maybe play capture the stick?"
Sweetkit was trembling with visible excitement. The mere thought of actually learning how to hunt and fight like a viony was almost too much for the kit. While he was a softy at heart, he also couldn't help but want to learn how to protect and provide for his family. And once his adoptive mother brought up the game his thoughts had been diverted. While learning how to hunt and fight could be fun, the thought of everyone playing a fun game together seemed just as fun.
"Well, which one is it?" meowed Winterpaw amusedly as she watched her adopted brother's attention divert again. She wondered if she was every like that, so easily distracted by a million things. She assumed that she probably had to be, right? She would have to make sure she asked her mother-aunt when Smallfire was alone next, if she was ever alone next. "Do you want to learn or should we just play the game?" There was a patience in her voice that mixed in with the amusement in reference to the little guy.
Sweetkit's brows furrowed as he thought deeply about what Winterpaw had asked him. Well as deeply as a young kit could about the matter. He reasoned with himself that it would be a lot more fun to play a game with everyone. They could always learn stuff later. "Game!" he hurridly squeaked out after he'd come to his decision.
There was almost a disappointment in her gaze, but Winterpaw quickly blinked it off. She could always teach them later !
"Games are more fun," agreed Spicekit, one of the few times he happened to agree with his brother.
Smallfire let out a laugh as the plans once again changed. "Alright," she meowed with amusement in her eyes. "We will play the game now. There will be two teams. Your father will be on one team, and I will be on the other. Would you like to be able to pick which one of us you play with, or should he and I divide you up?"
"I'm on dad's team!" Practically deciding for everyone, Sunrisekit stuck herself between her father's paws, claiming that the kits would pick the teams with her exclamation. The young kit may have been excited to learn the moves her older sister would teach her but a game with everyone in the family in it sounded just as fun. The little one was particularly interested in what was happening now, and what would offer the most fun. The future was for another sunrise, one that may hold her sister teaching them all she'd learned as an apprentice.
Midnightcomet was nearly barreled over by Sunrisekit in her hurry to claim to be on his team. At least that decided how they were dividing up the teams. Letting the kits decide could be a problem though, as it was sure to lead to a fight when it came down to the last few to chose their team.
Sweetkit had been thinking about what to choose when Sunrisekit had nearly pounced on their father. The ginger and white tom's fu fluffing up in surprise before it quickly settled just as fast as it had risen. His gaze shifted from Smallfire then to Midnightcomet and back again. Why were there so many choices to be made today? His head was just hurting with all the thinking it had been doing. His gaze then shifted to Spicekit, while he hardly ever agreed with his brother he wondered what he would do. Hoping that his decision would help Sweetkit guide his own thoughts.
