The wee hours of morning were just as dark as night. Dottymask lied curled up in her nest with her five kits, but she wasn't asleep like they were. Instead she had been soaking in every feature of Heavenlykit. From the way her body moved up and down to her pure blood WinterClan pelt. She could pick out every feature of her daughter and sort it between herself and her mate. She had wanted a family ever since she was young, she thought she could have that with the demons, but as she learned, mothering demons and kits were different. With Heavenlykit she could fail and she never would fear that WinterClan would lash out at her daughter for her shortcomings. But times were changing, Wintrystar wasn't afraid to punish anyone. Her daughter may have her fathers silvery touches of fur, but she also had her mothers kind heart. But unlike her she could tell Heavenlykit was never going to let the cold freeze her heart, because of that she was never going to survive. If she couldn't mistreat the demons, learn to stand up for herself then Soullesspaw was right, she wouldn't thrive. She could beat her like she did to the demon kits, kill that kind side of her, but she couldn't bring herself to do that to Heavenlykit, she was too much like her. If she could go back in time to save herself she would so this was as close as she was going to get.
"We're going on a little trip," Dottymask whispered to Heavenlykit, gently she picked up her daughter by the scruff before placing her down. Her daughter was far too big to carry, she knew her apprentice ceremony would be any day now. It was why she needed to leave now rather than later. She licked the top of Heavenlykit's head, "Follow me."

Heavenlykit was recovering from the attack from Soullesspaw, though more from the shock of it all. Though you could see the potential makings of a scar across her nose. The last thing she remembered was red covering her vision, she never got to hear anything after that. It's why after waking up in the Witch's den, the first thing she asked was what happened to Soullesspaw. Heavenlykit still trusted her family, because what else was she supposed to do. She didn't even notice the way her mom's eyes darkened when she looked at her, or how her father had become more distant than usual. Her fate swayed in the balance, and Heavenlykit had no clue.
She was getting bigger, only a few days away from her apprentice ceremony. But it also felt like she was catching up on sleep, never quite having enough. Her squeak was quiet when Dottymask woke her up, a sleepy haze over her still baby blue eyes as Dotty told her they were going on a trip. Heavenlykit couldn't imagine where. She had been forbid from the prison, everyone made that clear no matter how much she wanted to see Soullesspaw. But could it be worse? The idea made her blood run cold. She couldn't relive that day again. She kept putting on this brave face, but it was chipped away so easily. "Okay, Mom." Heavenlykit said as she was put down, pulling herself up to her paws. The walk to the new camp was hard enough, she did hope this wouldn't be as bad.
"That's my good girl," Dottymask cooed stroking the top of Heavenlykit's forehead with her tongue.
Dottymask walked her out of camp, her tail moving over Heavenlykit's shoulder to keep her from looking back. They were taking a long walk, one that no other kit had hiked. "Heavenlykit, your life is in danger in WinterClan, you're too soft. Your father isn't beneath beating you into submission and you would learn from him with tears in your eyes and fright in your heart. You'll learn that being a good WinterClan girl means hurting others, marrying pure, and letting your mate load you up with as many kits that will boost their status. Or worse, you'll sympathize with the demons too much, get beaten by your own clan mates, imprisoned, you can't stay here, my angel. After this walk you will never return to this clan, I forbid you from ever going to a gathering in fear that your clan mates will spot you. You need to be mamas good girl from now on, you're going to stay close to the tom I've entrusted you with, you will listen to what that boy says, and you will live your life with love in your heart, okay?" She said tearfully.

She remembered walking up the hill to the new camp. Now she could at least keep up without wearing herself out immediately. Dottymask made the right call resting her tail across her shoulders, cause Heavenlykit did look back. There was nothing back there now, and she was forced to face forward.
And then the speech came, and Heavenlykit felt every emotion run through her. Sad that she disappointed her parents so much. Fear for her dad that she hadn't had until now. But also a hollow realization that she could just be a tool for whoever she was arranged to. Pureblood was too coveted, it felt like a curse. In a sense, it would be like nothing would change. She was just going to be somewhere else rather than Winterclan. This was the closest she had seen Dottymask pour her heart out, but she didn't know how to comfort her. Cause Heavenlykit's thoughts just kept going back to the people around her.
"Mama..." Heavenlykit trailed off. Could she really leave everything she'd known behind? That must have been why this mystery boy was here. Tears clouded her vision, her emotions left with no other outlet. "Okay... okay, mama." Heavenlykit could only agree, for her mama more than her.
Lionpaw was waiting at the border, despite the cold morning air his body didn't hunch over. He was one of the rare WinterClan cats who had ginger fur, possibly a good thing that he moved out given how easy it was to spot him in the snow. He perked up seeing Heavenlykit and Dottymask make their way over. Unlike Heavenlykit he wasn't abandoning WinterClan, merely spying on DayClan. However Dottymask had sought him out, essentially threatening to blow everything if he didn't bring his arranged mate with him. Having an arranged mate always felt like an embarrassment to him, not that he didn't like Heavenlykit, or heck, knew anything about her. But ever since losing his mother he felt owned by Dottymask. When she gave him the task of spying on DayClan to see what Pandora and the rest of Bluejay's family was up to he was all too excited to get away from everything. But now with Heavenlykit with him he would have to look out for her.
"Hi Heavenlykit," Lionpaw said in a friendly tone as he approached her, touching his nose to hers politely, the way Dottymask taught him to behave around a future mate.
Pleased by Lionpaw's behavior Dottymask looked down at her daughter, "This is it. You be good now and my angel, never admit that you are my kit in DayClan. I'd hate to think what they might do to you, understood?" She licked Heavenlykit atop of her head. She would be fine, DayClan at their worst was still a safer place than WinterClan at their best.

The walk down the mountain felt like it took forever, but was only the beginning of her journey. Lionpaw's bright orange pelt stuck out against the wintry landscape like a sore thumb. She expected to feel something, anything with realizing who she would be following for the rest of her life. But she didn't. Lionpaw and her grew up around each other, sure. But Heavenlykit barely knew anything about him. Just that his half Winter blood was enough for her mother. Dotty had been looking for a mate for her since she was born, so the idea was nothing new to her. They were still strangers, and Heavenlykit was extra baggage for him to lug around.
He was still friendly, and Heavenlykit forced herself to stand her ground when he touched his nose to her's. "Hi Lionpaw. I--" She started but stopped when Dottymask started talking again. Her attention swinging back made her realize she wasn't sure what she was gonna say anything. "Okay." She nodded, leaning into her mom's touch. It was really happening, the reality only dawning on her when Dottymask pulled away. Heavenlykit barely held back tears, "Mama... I love you. Do you love me?"
"I'll always love you my heavens angel. But I'm still going to living in a world where the violent and cruelty thrive. I can never show you my love again, so you're going to have to remember our moments together well because memories are finicky things, like water. Our minds are like lakes and bad memories will always freeze up closest to the shores and like ice they are a memory you can reflect and cut yourself on. But good memories, they're not cold, they're like a drop of water, easy to get lost in your mind, but they'll always be a part of you. I'll always be a part of you, keep the good parts of me Heavenly," Dottymask purred, embracing her daughter one last time before nodding to Lionpaw, "Good-bye you two."
Lionpaw stared at Dottymask for a moment before leaning down to Heavenlykit, "We should go," he said, predicting that she wouldn't want to move.

Heavenlykit bit her lip. Why would her mom choose this life? Choose to not... show her love again? Now Dotty wouldn't be there to gently reprimand her for being too nice to Soullesspaw and Sinfulpaw. Not be there to fret over her, or let Heavenlykit hide in behind her when she made Rosemarykit mad at her. She looked down at her paws, choking back a sob before looking back up at Dottymask and nodding. Newfound determination in her eyes, only there to try and hide her sorrow, "Okay, I will."
Lionpaw would be right, she didn't want to move. Even with that bravery, she didn't wanna act on it. Looking over her shoulder at him when he spoke up, Heavenlykit nodded and stood to follow him. "Bye mama. I love you. Keep the good parts of me too."
This was supposed to be the last time she looked at Dottymask, but she kept looking over her shoulder as the pair began their trek. When they were far enough away to where Dottymask looked like a snowflake in a snowstorm rather than a cat, Heavenlykit gave her neck a break and turned forward. "Sorry about this Lionpaw." She felt compelled to say, breaking the silence that had formed over the pair like glass.
"Yeah well... I am arranged to be your mate so I'm your protector from here on out. We're a team and it'll be nice for us to lean on one another," Lionpaw said, blushing slightly, he felt bad for her. He knew what it was like to lose parents, but maybe it worse in her case. Heavenlykit's parents were alive, but too dangerous to love, maybe it hurt more knowing they were there, but couldn't be touched. "Where we're going is called DayClan, I'm a spy there for WinterClan, but we'll see, I might ditch the clan altogether." He shrugged, his eyes itching to stare at Heavenlykit, observe her sorrow, but instead he tried to keep his eyes ahead, "Um... She might not be able to love you, but I'll always love you Heavenlykit. You were always nice," He said more softly.

His answer wasn't what she expected, wide blue eyes only meeting his rich pelt. After a moment, she looked away and back to the path in front of them. The grass parted beneath them, like it had been ran numerous times over. Her heart had steadied as they walked. "I-- I expected you to resent me." Heavenlykit spoke honestly, maybe too much so. Marriages seemed to go only a few ways. They got divorced, or stayed together for the kits or the clan, and then there was a small percentage that actually loved each other. She wasn't sure where the two would fall.
Then I'll lean on you too. And you can rely on me. I promise." The blush on her face was clear through her white fur. She couldn't let herself mess up again, loose someone again, "and I love you too Lionpaw. You're always looking out for everyone, that's admirable."
"Thanks... I always feel like I should be looking out for people more though," He admitted, his shiny amber gaze staring straight ahead with an intensity, adamantly avoiding meeting Heavenlykit's stare once more, "Umm... You know what's cool about DayClan? We can have our own dens, there are no warriors dens and student dens, you live with family. Snowthorn and Tigerlily gave me my own den so you can come stay in mine. We could even get a job together, gives us more reasons to hangout and all that," he said, hoping to excite her about her new life rather than let her dread of leaving home fester inside of her the entire walk.

Heavenlykit let her gaze drop and focus ahead of them. On her future. "You can only do so much. You shouldn't over-exert yourself." It was the kind of thing she heard other mothers tell her. And now she was there echoing it to her mate. She wondered if the pair could let go of their pasts.
Her eyes were tempted to look back at the mountain, but then Lionpaw spoke again and earned her full attention. "Wow really!" The idea of a den with just them excited her. Privacy was never something she really had, it really excited her. "Who are Snowthorn and Tigerlily? And what kind of jobs do they have in Dayclan." His ploy worked, all the innocent questions pouring out and letting the walk feel lighter on her feet.
