Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Faith here's the thread for the nc prisoners. Faithpaw would know Soot as Raypaw. Soot's hacking coughs echoed in the prison. She did not escape the fire like the rest of her Clanmates. She was forgotten about in the medicine den after she was poisoned. As the fire encroached on her, the she-cat crawled into the herb storage and pushed all of the supplies out. Doing so saved her life, but at a cost. The stone walls trapped the heat and the smoke, effectively cooking her. She had harsh burning all around her body, and then spots of her fur were completely singed of by embers upon leaving the camp. She survived, barely. But her longs were severely damaged. It used to hurt to breath, but things had improved. She could now whisper without breaking into a coughing fit, but anything beyond a relax breath sent her spiraling downwards.
Since the fire, she had terrible dreams of it happening all over again, which always ended in her burning. Then she'd wake and hack up a storm. In isolation, this wasn't an issue. But since being moved into the main block, her coughing fits earned her plenty of looks.
Faithpaw's entire situation started as bleak as Soot's. She had followed Lionpride into the front lines only to come face to face with Flamingstar. She was easily defeated by the leader, but instead of finishing her off Flamingstar had forced her to walk out of the battlefield. The rest was humiliating, her paws were wrapped up tightly in vines where she was eventually hulled off into NightClan's prisons. But instead of being mistreated like she thought she was untied and allowed to walk freely about the prison. For whatever reason fate granted her mercy in a helpless situation where as for Soot she was given none.
Since being made a prisoner Faithpaw had been little miss perfect, obeying every order without complaint, well liked among the clan. Tonight every cat was talking about how she would be promoted any day now to a member of NightClan. For Faithpaw life always seemed to be handed to her. In the Regime she was the commanders granddaughter. In SunClan she was the priest promised's daughter. In NightClan, even without having anyone as family she was well liked enough to be made a member within a week. A Mary Sue at her finest, if there was a genuinely kind person it was her.
"Would you like to share my meal with me?" Faithpaw asked Soot as she approached her. Faithpaw was a calico with a few scattered bright orange markings and bright blue eyes, an average looking cat really. She had only recently learned about Raypaw being a prisoner with her, but was delighted to have a fellow clanmate to talk to again.
Soot hadn't noticed Faithpaw either. She too worked in the camp occasionally, but as soon as she was finished she was hauled back into isolation. Her time in camp, again contrary to Faithpaw, made her disliked. She begrudgingly did her tasks, but not without stopping to pray. The silver bengal had gotten caught multiple times, and it cost her more time in the dark caves. On top of that, she had taken to retaliating against her masters. While she could not speak much, she still could spit in their faces. And she did. All the time. She had even gotten one of the apprentices right in the ear!
Upon seeing a familiar face Soot's features brightened up. Maybe there was hope! Her light blue eyes landed on the prey, and her mouth watered. Food also hadn't been easy to come by for her. She wasn't quite starving, but she teetered on that edge. "Please. Thank the Sun God someone else here. Not that I wanted you to be here. But it's nice."
"It's nice to see you too," Faithpaw purred, bumping her head gently into Soots as she placed the prey down. "I didn't even know you were here, I can't believe they kept us separated, you look so hurt too! What happened?"
Faithpaw had a few wounds from when Flamingstar attacked when she first came to NightClan, but now the injuries had all but disappeared along with her paint. She had felt comfort in NightClan's kindness towards her, but knowing now that Raypaw had been in camp the entire time, judging by the scent, she couldn't help, but feel lied to. She could have been there giving Raypaw company and comfort. However maybe Raypaw could help her out with all of the dreams she had been having.
Soot leaned into Faithpaw's bump, savoring this reconnection. "I know, it's crazy but..." How much did Flamingstar tell Faithpaw about the result of the final battle? "Well, after the Fire Nation attacked again and invaded the camp, a fire started in the middle of it. It forced the battle to end, and almost everyone got out. But I was sick from the poison and alone in the medicine den. They forgot about me." Tears fell from her eyes as she retold the story. Soot wasn't mad about them leaving her, she was more concerned about them thinking she was dead.
She broke out into a brief coughing fit that sounded like nails on a chalkboard before continuing. "I stuffed myself in the herb storage and pushed all of the herbs out. It got really hot and I almost suffocated, but I survived." Her voice, still hoarse from the smoke told that part of the story on its own. "I crawled out of the camp when the fire was extinguished, but embers still burned around the territory." She pointed to the patchy burns around her fur. "I got these from them. I found the river running through this territory, and tried to get a drink. Frozenfire found me there and brought me in." She broke down again. "She named me Soot."
Faithpaw's eyes grew bigger with every word, fire, battle, left, sick, they were all blurring together. With what started as a flutter in the pit of her stomach infested into a swarm of panic that devoured her from the inside out. Was Raypaw going to be alright? How much of the camp was burned? Who was Frozenfire? Is the fire why SunClan hadn't returned home? What could she do to make Raypaw feel better? Who else died from the fire? Were Raypaw and her going to be separated again? What was happening now and where were her parents?
Whatever had been gripping at her heart finally released her. She withdrew a breath that she hadn't known she'd been holding before cuddling up closer to Raypaw, simply leaning into her. It was scary, they both belonged to NightClan now, she hadn't been named yet, but she heard rumors that Flamingstar would be giving her one soon. "Well... You're still Raypaw to me," Faithpaw said, grooming the apprentices fur, "And I'm sure your injuries will get better too. You should eat, it'll make you feel better," She encouraged, nosing the prey over to her.
Alpinehex walked into the prisoners den after hearing a little too much chattering, she had a short fuse and if they had enough energy to talk then in her mind they had enough energy to patrol, "You two, get up, it's about time you've made yourselves more useful than doing chores, let's see if you're both sturdy enough to hunt something," the frizzy blue grey she-cat said, her tail motioning for them to step forward to her command.
Soot let it all out while leaning into Faithpaw. It was the first time since she arrived that she had some sort of catharsis. All her emotions since the fire had been bottled up deep inside. Everything from sadness about her home burning to the ground to the worry she held for her family who all thought she was dead came out in one push. Tears flowed in a stream down her soaking wet face, and the stream turned into a raging river at hearing her real name again. "T-Thank you, really. I don't know what---"
She broke off when she heard the sound of someone else approaching. They couldn't see her like this, they couldn't know that they got to her. The silver bengal turned away as Alpinehex spoke, and she could not stop herself from getting excited for a moment. She had been tasked with only things inside the camp like cleaning dens and that kind of thing. Now, she had a chance to go outside! Granted, she knew she wouldn't escape. Her lungs would not let her run more than a few steps, and then she'd slow Faithpaw down to a stop.
Then it occurred to her. Why did Alpinehex trust them to leave? She certainly hadn't been compliant during her stay in the Clan. Was Faithpaw doing better? Was she doing what they wanted? It didn't matter. Faithpaw was surviving just like her. She rose to her shaky paws and nodded to the warrior, waiting to step until she could lean on Faithpaw.
