Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
GidgetGal , Cleaver [Seasparkleflash & Sootstep (friends? enemies? who knows): Sent to guard a section of the border where a loner was recently spotted]
Well this was kind of awkward. A pair of toms were padding through a snow-covered field, the air completely silent other than the crunch of the snow beneath their paws. Seasparkleflash had attempted to make conversation with his patrol member a number of times since they had left camp to no avail, being brushed off or ignored every time. The older warrior cast a weary glance at his dark-grey companion; he had definitely heard stories about Sootstep's attitude from the younger cats, but something in particular seemed to be bothering the other tom. Perhaps it was just the optimist in him, but he hoped he could help Sootstep, if his clanmate could just open up a little.
For a younger warrior, getting to defend the border from intruders would be an honor. Once, he had volunteered for every battle and guarding patrol there was - and every border-marking and hunt to go with it. Now the prospect of a fight did little to intrigue him. He didn't want to waste his time chasing off a loner, he'd done it a hundred times before and the lonely cats never meant them any harm anyway. A part of Sootstep had hoped to clear his head by escaping the camp, but his hopes were quickly dashed: stomping through the snow beside the other warrior did nothing to alleviate his foul mood.
Feeling Seasparkleflash's gaze on him, Sootstep ground his jaw and marched on. "Let's just get to the border," he muttered, quickening his pace.
As Sootstep's pace began to quicken, Seasparkleflash's steps seemed to falter, staring after the other tom in concern for a brief moment before quickly shaking it off and continuing after him. At least Sootstep had finally said something. The tabby wasn't exactly sure why he was chosen for this particular patrol; for one the border scents were updated so frequently now that any cat knew better than to get too close, and his bright ginger tabby pelt stuck out like a brand of fire in the pure-white snow. They'd probably be seen from a mile off, if the loner was even still there. "So..." He meowed, deciding that breaking the uncomfortable silence would be worth another attempt. "What do you make of this whole 'closing the borders' thing? It's not like Summerclan gets that many visitors during Leaf-Bare anyway, right?"
He meant let's just go to the border in silence but apparently he had not been specific enough. Suppressing a sigh, he shrugged his shoulders. "I don't care about keeping other cats out, really, it's a good thing. We don't want trespassers or thieves during these cold moons. But keeping everyone locked inside the borders?" Sootstep's lip curled. "I don't know what he's trying to do, but I don't like it."
Ratstar did not seem malevolent, but he was misguided, and Sootstep saw no good reason to keep borders closed.
