Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The weak sun of leafbare shone on the water as Dawnmemories' patrol approached. The water was usually alluring and welcoming to Dawnmemories, but the promise of it's icy temperature was most unattractive to her now. As she stepped onto the cold, damp sand ringing the small waves she looked across the water with a bit of satisfaction, this sea kept them safe along this particular border.
"Okay, this is perhaps the easiest border to defend, still be vigilant and make sure our borders are strong. No cat gets in, and we want them to know this is our territory." The decree by Ratstar had come as a relief, despite her forewarning. Dawnmemories wasn't one to leave her clan and wasn't one to care about the politics of the others. To her and Ratstar, SummerClan mattered and SummerClan only.
Sootstep had been unusually quiet as he tagged along at the side of the patrol. Doubtless, he was still moody today, he just hadn't chosen to share his thoughts. It was a rare moment of peace.
His head jerked up as she spoke, and his blue eyes narrowed. "Nobody gets in," he agreed, then added ominously, "and nobody gets out." That was what had been bothering him, he realized, when Ratstar first made his announcement. He was going to let anyone escape their territory. That was dangerous. What was the one-eyed tom planning now?

Still being a new warrior, Skycloud was still trying to prove himself. He wanted to be the best he could be for SummerClan. He tipped his head to one side as he contemplated what Sootstep said. He wasn't too sure what the older warrior meant. "Do you mean were going to keep prisoners now?" he asked a bit concerned. He had heard tales of some other clans who had prisons and didn't like the idea. ______ ooc - What is Ratstar's new edict?

Overarching December Plot: Isolationism & Clan Bonding! Due to recent events, Ratstar has decided that all of the other clans, minus Springclan, are too risky to deal with, and has closed the borders entirely: no one is allowed in, and no one is allowed to sneak out without risk of punishment, so everyone is cooped up together. - here's the LINK as well if you want c: Dawnmemories shot Sootstep a slightly exasperated look, though it was tinged with amusement as the overly ominous tone he used, before pausing to address Skycloud, "no, no prisoners, we just aren't allowing any cats in or out. We're just being cautious."

"Oh that's good," Skycloud meowed. "Keeping prisoners would be too much like those rogue groups." Not to mention so much bother, he thought.
As he gazed out across the waves, an unpleasant memory surfaced. Suddenly he was transported back to that fateful day when poor little Coalkit drowned after following him and a group of apprentices who had sneaked away to the shore. He tried to rescue the kit but had failed in the attempt. The old familiar feelings of guilt overwhelmed him anew. He'd do anything to change that day. With his head bowed and tail dragging, he turned his back to the ocean and let out a deep sigh.
"We might not be keeping prisoners in name, but that doesn't mean Ratstar isn't up to something. Don't you think it's strange he won't let anyone leave? What is he afraid of?" Sootstep stared at Dawnmemories. She might be the deputy, but he refused to believe she was in on Ratstar's plans. She had too much of a heart to let anything dangerous happen, and she was too smart to be easily manipulated.

Skycloud looked at Sootstep and then back at the deputy. He had a point to what he said. Why would Ratstar want to keep cats from leaving SummerClan territory?
"Wait a minute. Why can't we or others leave if we want too? It just doesn't make sense." Skycloud asked. "I know we can't go on other clan's territories but we share a border with loners and rogues." He thought of their eastern border along the big mountain range. Often warriors would cross it especially when chasing prey.

Dawnmemories looked at them both, surprised to hear their distrust aimed at Ratstar. "Have you both not seen the Forest Clans? Not allowing anyone in and out is what keeps us safe. Ratstar only wants to protect us, surely Sootstep you can see that?" Sootstep was hotheaded and aggravating, but he had to see the sense in that.
"If we just allow us to go back and forth, how hard will it be for some cat to sneak in? Its not worth the risk."

Being young, Skycloud was still forming his opinions about life. He wasn't SummerClan born but he carried SummerClan blood in his veins being a descendant of Graystar. If the border had been closed when he came to the clan, he wouldn't have been allowed in. What Dawnmemories said sounded sensible but that would keep potential new clan members out. What about other cats like himself? He decided to voice his question.
"That's true but what about any cat who may want to join us?" His voice held only concern. "It doesn't seem fair to them."

Dawnmemories, in truth, didn't have a very good response to that. It was something she had questioned herself, "If they want to join us, I'm sure they'll be welcome when we can be sure it's safe. Ratstar doesn't mean to isolate us, he simply wants to send a message to the more... fractured clans."

"Oh," the young warrior replied in a way that said he understood but not necessarily agreed with what was said. "I guess all we can do is abide by the rules." Even if they're wrong. He looked around again at the sea. "This area looks secure. Where are we heading next?"

"We'll hug the border all the way up, until we run into the other patrol," Dawnmemories quickened the pace, though careful to scent along the beach as they went. She knew it was mostly for show, this was a secure part of their territory, but she was leading by example. Until Ratstar's order was lifted they'd all be expected to patrol this area with extreme care.
- not deputy anymore but we'll just not mention her position again x.x

(Okay)
Skycloud trailed behind Dawnmemories his thoughts wandering again. The waves lapping the shore and the seagulls cawing drowned out most of the softer sounds he'd normally expect to hear in other areas of the territory. He missed the noises of prey scurrying though the undergrowth and the melodious songs the birds made. An awful stench filled his nose as the drew closer to a cluster of gulls. "Carrion eaters!" he said in disgust when he saw the rotten fish the group of birds were fighting over.
