Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. Mottledcypress looked at her paws. She'd spent a lot of time as of late looking at them, flexing her left front paw, begging it to stop hurting. It was getting to the point where she knew intervention was going to have to happen soon, but she couldn't bare the thought of admitting her own weakness. Still, the pain was constant, a burn no matter what she did. It only increased on the hunt, something that made her stomach sink to what felt like the center of the earth. After all, what kind of cat was she if she couldn't hunt? Would she be automatically retired if she was honest? She didn't know, and it was the uncertainty that killed her, an incidious crawl through her mind almost always. On good days, she tried to ignore the looming threat, but this was not a good day. She ached, every flex of her muscles sending a screaming hot pain through her entire arm. This was not good, but Mottledcypress did not know what to do.
"Is something wrong?" Marvelcanvas asked, noticing the warrior was staring intently at her paws as if she could see something the acting cardinal couldn't. With so many stresses and worries lately, it was refreshing to focuses on some other cat's problem than her own. Now that her kits had been weaned she wasn't cooped up in the nursery anymore but she still lingered around their makeshift camp lately just to keep a close eye on them. "Maybe I can help?" she offered with a small smile. "I used to be a Janus when I was in SunClan I can take a look at least."
She tensed at the voice. Out of all cats to have noticed her, this was perhaps the worst one. After all, Marvelcanvas was the one cat who had the power to retire her if that's what needed to happen. She should have been more discrete, she realized, before taking just a beat too long to reply.
"Family history of aching paws," she meowed, trying to sound as casual as possible. "When the weather changes, it aggrivates it. Nothing I can't deal with, though," she quickly continued, as to avoid confronting the potential reality of this interaction. She offered a weak smile, before nodding.
"I'd like that," she meowed, although she felt like she had absolutely no choice in the matter. Maybe if she had, she'd have booked it, high tailed it right away from her. Instead, she shifted slightly, offering the acting cardinal her paw for examination. It was swollen and warm to the touch, and precisely the opposite of what Mottledcypress ever could have wanted.
