Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Her sobs could be heard from anywhere in the camp. They were deep, guttural cries for help that could never make a difference. Her kitten fate was sealed long before her arrival in DayClan. The stress of trying to escape and failing combined with the starvation of the war hurt Azura, but it doomed her kittens. She knew this was coming. Their kicks never grew to the ferocity that they once had. Over the days since coming to DayClan they grew weaker and weaker. But she denied that it was happening on some slim hope that her kittens could become something that would make her proud.
They were all dead now, all four of them. Three were born dead, and the fourth hanging on a thread. She did her best to save little Glowingkit, but after a few short minutes of life her heartbeat stopped as well. Trying to start her heart again, she frantically licked the little body. "No, no, no, no..." It wasn't working. "Please..."
Romancefable had been almost impossible to pry from his mate's side since they came to DayClan. They only reason he had left at all was that she had been sleeping, and he had wanted to surprise her when she woke up. On their last date she had told him that he could gift her a feather, so long as it wasn't love. He had thought long and hard about which feather he wanted to choose, having to do some research and ask around about all the different feathers and what they all meant. He had finally made his pick, slipping out of their cave and going out on the hunt. He hadn't been gone long, happily carrying in his bird and laying it on the fresh kill. Searching and then plucking the perfect feather for his mate, making sure it was in perfect condition stroking and making sure that it was extra soft. Grinning from ear to ear, he made his way into the cave system hearing her cries. He bolted towards the den they shared near the waterfall, his jaw falling open and the feather fluttering forgotten to the cold cave floor as he screamed into the tunnel for help, for a medicine cat, someone, anyone. The long cream and brown feather would be one that Azura would know well... The feather of happiness.
The white tom was soon at her side, trying to take in the nightmare before him. The kits were dead, unmoving. Everything seemed to slowdown, stretching out to nose the lifeless kit that was going cold with every passing moment as they both tried to revive the little body before them as reality set in... They were gone.. All of them. He was beyond devastated, unable to find the words as he pressed himself to his mate's side a tear sliding down his cheek as he tried to hold it together for her sake. To be the strong one, though it felt like his world had caved in around them "She is gone Azura...." he whispered placing his paw onto hers.
As the words left his lips, a gust of wind caught the feather he had brought. It fluttered through the air, until it got caught in the torrent of water cascading down the stone and disappearing from sight.
The world around her blurred. The only thing in her world was the kitten in front of her who had once been alive. Glowingkit had to survive. This was to be Azura and Romancefable's next step into a happy life. They had escaped a tyrant and survived a war, but this... their fate finally caught up, and Azura couldn't bear it.
She hardly noticed Romancefable's frantic pace. This kitten was her world. She could still save her. Her licks sped up again until she felt her neck start to burn. She is gone Azura... Azura stopped. No, she couldn't be. But she was. The little tortoiseshell's body had grown cold despite all of their frantic efforts to warm her. Azura stared at the body for another moment before pulling it closer in an embrace. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry for what I did to you." Everything was her fault. If she never insisted on leaving SunClan, then this would never have happened. If she just listened to Bloodystar and took the medicine, then she would have never let her kits die. "I failed them..."

"Azura..." his heart ached, watching as she cuddled the body close to her chest. The kits were gone... The family that had been working so hard to grow was gone. He wanted to scream, to wail about how unfair the world had treated them. But he couldn't... Not with his mate in such a fragile state "You did nothing wrong" he pressed her nose to her cheek, his tongue rasping gently over her ears trying to simply just be there for her as he supressed his own emotions. Swallowing hard as he gazed down at the unmoving kits. He lowered his muzzle gently grooming them, his heart heavy in his chest "Sometimes this kind of thing just happens" he tried to convince himself that this wasn't some sort of curse from the sun god for leaving "even in queens that are perfectly healthy, theres nothing you could have done"
He moved the dead kits together, gazing upon them. He was quite for several moments, taking the time to simply just be with her, his nose buried into the fur along her neck "I know you are hurting, I am to" he choked, his control slowly beginning to slip "This isn't going to make it hurt any less, but I will stand by your side. Azura... I still love you"
"No, no. This is my fault. I didn't care for them. I didn't take any of the right herbs. I didn't take it easy. This is my fault... I killed all of them." She let out a shuddering breath and pulled Glowkit even tighter to her chest. What she wouldn't give up for one of the little ones to live a full, happy life. They would have the childhood that she never had. She had pictured them running around on the brisk winter mornings playing tag, mossball, and whatever other mischief they could think of. Her perfect family, taken away in one foul swoop.
"I'm so sorry Romancefable. This..." I still love you. She sobbed harder and just shook her head. "How could you? I killed your kits. I killed your family." She looked up to him, tears still falling from her eyes. All this emotional duress fractured her. Nothing made sense in this cruel world. "I... don't understand."

"Azura" in the next moment he was cradling her between his paws closing the distance between them "You did not kill our kits" he replied firmly, rasping his tongue over her ears and across her neck soothingly "You fought tooth and claw for our kits, for their future. While the other queens gave up, you didn't Azura. You fought for our children's right to choose in what the believed in. You fought for our children's right to fall in love. You fought for our children every step of the way" he grasped he cheeks gently to get her to look at him "Azura, you have loved these kits deeply. You did everything a good mother should do and more" he paused
"If you want to blame someone, you should look to me. I wasn't strong enough to keep you safe. I wasn't smart enough to help you and our kits escape. I wasn't brave enough to stand up for what you needed. So hit hit me, bite me, punish me however you want" his voice fell softer "but don't punish yourself Azura..." he pleaded, seeing her in so much pain was cutting him even deeper than the loss had already caused
She shook her head as he spoke, but still pushed herself tighter into his embrace. "I... I appreciate you trying to make me feel better, but this my fault. It is my fault." She lowered her head to cold floor and just laid there as the tears kept flowing from her eyes. "I did fight for them, but they still died. They... never even had a chance. I never gave them that chance. We should have just stayed there. Then maybe our kits would still be alive." The grief of the stillbirth muddled her thoughts and distorted any sense of logic she had left.
"You did everything you could. I should have been more careful when I first told you. Then maybe we could have left the night." As much as she was suffering, she didn't want Romancefable to feel the pain that she was in. She had no idea that he was probably doing worse by seeing her in this much despair. "I should have swallowed my pride and initiated, and then we could have left. Bloodystar would have trusted me to not leave then. There's so much I should have done differently. And all if it killed them."

Romancefable knew there was no words that he could say to help ease the pain she was feeling, no words that would convince her that this would have happened no matter what precautions she had taken. All he could do now was simply be there for her, to be her pillar even though he to wanted to crumble. He pulled her in close, curling his tail around hers and gently wiping away her tears as soon as they fell upon her cheek "Azura we will get through this together" his tongue rasped on the fur along her neck. He knew she would need time to grieve... he would to... but right now she needed him more "You don't have to face this alone"
Azura hoped on the inside that he would keep consoling her, keeping telling her it wasn't her fault. It gave her something to hope for, something that she knew she could redeem one day. But he gave up, and she misread that. He thought it was her fault too, but then he curled his tail up with hers. He chose to stay with her despite blaming her for the death of his kits. Azura did know if he was a fool or a genuine, but she would take it. She pushed herself into his warm embrace and just kept sobbing. Ever so slowly she let Glowingkit's body slip out of her grasp.
Romancefable looked down solemnly, as they placed the last stone upon the freshly dug earth. There was one clay stone for each of the kits that they had lost, their kit's tiny pawprints pressed into the hardened clay, a memorial that would last long after their bodies had decayed below the earth. A feather had been pressed beside the pawprints, that they had picked out together for the kits before the miscarriage that they had hoped to give to them after they had been born. They had picked a beautiful spot on top on one of the rolling hills, over looking the fields of wheat and flowers. His fur brushed against hers, having arranged the burial so that his mate could grieve. It hadn't felt real... not until the dirt covered up their bodies and the stones were placed. He had tried so hard to be strong for Azura, but despite his best efforts he couldn't hold back the tears any more. He leaned into her warmth, his quiet sobs filling the silence. The others had left the grieving parents alone, have long since dispersed onto the territory.
"Azura..." she had no idea how he longed to take this burden from her shoulders and place it on to his. To take away her guilt and turn into a different emotion, any other emotion. He didn't care how angry she was with him, he could take it, but seeing her so angry at herself was breaking his heart in two
The time since they left the den to bury the kits felt like a blur. Everything just happened so fast, from finding the stones to digging the graves. To her, it dug up even more emotion. She had helped bury her mother after she was executed, and most of those emotions had been repressed. Digging the graves of her own kits made those emotions resurface, but not in the anger that she knew it as. It was the loss she didn't know how to understand as a kit. It was an understanding of the pain her mother felt as she left this world and moved on, a pain Azura now had to learn to live with.
She couldn't keep it together as they laid the last of the stones down in the clay. While they built it, she was crying. Now she was sobbing with everything in her soul. The stones, the feathers, her mate... she just couldn't hold it together. She leaned into him and sobbed as all the other cats left them alone to their vigil. She stayed when he leaned into her, and felt some sort of support for the first time in that awful day. She fell down to eye level with the pawprints and just stared at them with her watering eyes. She wanted to reach out and touch the clay, but didn't want to ruin her children's prints. "I don't understand... I'm just so sorry I did this..."

Romancefable had tried to be patient and understanding, but seeing her like this was tearing her apart. He crouched down beside of her, rubbing his cheek against hers "Azura, you didn't do this to them" he meowed firmly, moving until she had to look into his eyes "Everything you have done from the moment you found out you were pregnant has been for these kits" his voice held far more authority than normal leaving little room for arguing, though his words remain gentle "Even though they had to leave us to soon, it doesn't mean that our love for them was any less or that we won't see them again one day" he lifted his paw to gently wipe away her tears
"It is ok to miss them, and to wish for what could have been" he paused, licking her cheeks "but they are up there right now watching us, and they wouldn't want to see you blaming yourself like this. You can take all the time you need to grieve, but you have to stop blaming yourself. If not for you, and not for me, than for them" he closed his eyes pressing his forehead to hers
She just kept sobbing as more emotions rose to the surface. She never realized how much she tucked away into her darkest corners, how much she needed a release. "I don't just miss them... I miss my mother. Not just Glowstar," For the first time since hearing of her passing, her name did not bring anger with it. It was again washed away by pure and unbridled grief. "I miss Kyna..." She lifted her head away from his and looked to the sky. Certainly Glowstar was up there looking down on her, but Kyna? Maybe not... Wanheda was long since dead. Those spirits were probably lost...
She turned her attention back to the memorial and fell silent. Grief, sorrow, and self-loathing filled her as she again collapsed to stare at the tiny paw prints, their only mark on the world. "Th-thank you for dealing with me... but I know that this is my fault." Her gaze rose to meet Romancefable's. "You don't need to tell me its not. I know it is."
