Fisherkit blinked his eyes in surprise as he gazed out of the nursery entrance. Everything was covered in a blanket of white. Tentatively he stuck his paw out to touch the white stuff only to draw it back in again. His paw was now cold and wet. Hearing a sound to his right, he stuck out his head to see some warriors walking around in the stuff as if it were common place. If it's not hurting them, so it should be okay, he reasoned. Gathering up his courage, he stepped out into the snow.
It's not so bad! he thought as he looked around. "I wonder what it is?" he asked out loud to no cat in particular. He began running and jumping around and soon discovered he could slide in the white stuff. Now this is fun! He ran and took a big leap and slid spinning around and around until suddenly he crashed into another cat. "Opps! Sorry," he mewed.
"Watch where you're going, bee-brain!" The harsh voice could belong to none other than Sunkit, whose delicate paws had been tactfully set in whatever spots Fisherkit stepped through as it made walking through the snow easier for her. That was up until the point her denmate started to lose his absolute mind, and the auburn-pointed she-cat had watched distastefully as he pranced and pivoted, skidded and spun, and she was so focused on how dumb he looked she'd failed to realize he was heading right towards her. She was barreled heels over head, rolling backwards, and came to a graceless halt on her back. As she regained her bearings and stood up, her heather blue eyes were hot enough to burn him where he stood, rather offended he would dare trample her. It had to have been on purpose; all the other kits were just jealous of her for being so pretty and for being Poppymask and Ratstar's daughter.

Fisherkit laughed heartily at Sunkit's discomposure. "Are you calling me sweet cuz if got bees in my brain I must be full of honey!" He smiled at her impishly and wiggled his eye whiskers. Her haughty attitude didn't dampen his playfulness one bit. He got up from the ground where he was covered in snow and shook his fur vigorously causing a spray of snow and slop to shower everything in his vicinity. "Oops again!" he mewed still laughing. "This white stuff is so fun, don't you think? I wonder where it came from?"

Sunkit withdrew even further as Fisherkit shook himself, attempting to dodge the onslaught but she was only partially successful. "Maybe your head is full of this stuff instead and that's where it comes from!" She snapped at him, glowering intensely. Seeing as it didn't look like his antics would settle down anytime soon, she took it upon herself to tackle him and made an effort of holding him down, though she was still a small kit compared to her older denmate.

It wasn't hard for Fisherkit to dislodge Sunkit. He rolled over causing her to fall kersplot into a snowy puddle. "Ha! That would be so cool! You really think I caused all this?" he meowed merrily. Again he shook himself. "Except for the wetness, I like this stuff." He ran a few paces then sat down to slide. "This is sooo much fun! Come on an' give it a try," he mewed after coming to a stop.
"And why would I want to do that?" It did look kind of fun...but Sunkit had a reputation to uphold. She wrinkled her nose at the tom. Suddenly, more of the little white flakes began to spiral down from the sky, sticking to their fur only for moments before melting against their warmth. "Eww, it's like rain but worse!"

"'Cuz it's fun!" Fisherkit mewed as he spun around in the snow. He noticed the falling flakes just as heard Sunkit's comment about rain. A particularly large flake floated down close to where he was sitting. With a big leap in the air, he sandwiched the flake between his two fore paws. But when he opened his paws it was missing! "I know I caught it! But where did it go?" The snowflake had melted instantly on contact. Another flake distracted him and he chased after it. "You're wrong, Sunkit. This is lots more fun than rain!"
Could he get any more annoying? She watched him scamper this way and that way, grasping flakes between his grubby paws, then marveling at how they would disappear. Meanwhile she was rooted to one spot (and that totally wasn't because her paws were frozen to the ground from standing there so long). "You probably killed it, Fisherkit," she told him. "You're too big and they're too small and you killed them. You killed the little, cold, sky ants. Are you happy with yourself? Wait until I tell Ratstar about this." Somberly, with her dramatic flair, she shook her head and released a morose sigh, as if he truly had committed a crime worth tatting to her "father."

Fisherkit stopped chasing the snowflakes and stared intently at Sunkit. "This white fluff is alive?" One landed on his nose and melted. "Sky ants?" He licked the moister off his nose and blinked his eyes. He wasn't concerned at all about her 'tattling' to Ratstar. Off to his left were two apprentices throwing the white stuff at each other. Over near the fresh kill pile three warriors were knocking the fluff off the prey and were tramping it under foot.
He padded back toward Sunkit. "When you go tell Ratstar on me, you better include the whole clan in your report," he meowed with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Besides, I don't think these are sky ants at all." He swiped some snow with his foot leaving a neat little semicircle on the ground. "They aren't running around, they don't even have legs."
She flicked an ear, her tail swishing in agitation. "Why should I tell on them when you're murdering the poor things in cold blood? And besides, why would sky ants need legs in the first place? They don't need legs to fly, big head." Sunkit backed away a pace as he scuffed up some of the snow, then decided to put him in his place... again. She gathered up a bit of it and patted it down into a spherical shape, then mustered all the strength she had in her admittedly not-strong paw to send it flying at the cheeky tom.

"You talk about me murdering the poor sky ants, you're smashing them together!" he meowed as he watched Sunkit make a lopsided lump of the fluff.
"Hey!" he said when the lump hit him on the side. It burst into smaller pieces after leaving a wet spot on his fur. "What a great game!" He began to form his own lump. "This is way better than moss ball!" He flung his ball and it hit off the side of her head. "Sky ant ball and you invented it!"
"Fisherkit, stop it! W-we're not p-playing a game!" But despite the intensity of Sunkit's blue glare, her words were broken up by repressed giggles. She molded another sphere of snow together and launched it at him, then turned tail and skedaddled right on in the opposite direction to avoid him landing another hit on her. Maybe, just maybe, this game was not so bad-- and besides, if she invented it, then that meant she had bragging rights! At least that was how she was justifying it.

This time Fisherkit was almost quick enough to avoid her second throw. He ducked but the ball of snow hit him on the top of his back. "Hey! Come back here!" he laughed. She was much too far away to make another throw so he chased after her. His longer legs made bigger strides so soon he had caught up to her. But then he realized that the white stuff made stopping a lot more difficult. Going into another slide, he crashed into Sunkit and sent her skidding.
She had thought herself the fastest cat in SummerClan, but Fisherkit must have been cheating or something because it wasn't long before he was on her heels-- and then he had the nerve to push her! "Hey!" She yowled, though it was cut off as Sunkit skidded directly into a snowdrift, her hind legs sticking out and flailing helplessly.
During their exchange a seething, shivering Sunkit glowered. "Sky ants. They're sky ants," she insisted, refusing to be proven wrong. After all, she'd already been laughed at; she couldn't have two strikes against her. Fisherkit, however, had numerous strikes against him in her book, and she turned a cutting glare on him. "What gives, Fisherkit? You pushed me!"

"Pushed you?!" Fisherkit mewed indignantly. "I didn't push you, I slid into you and that was on accident too. This snow is slippery stuff you know. I couldn't stop."
"Yes, I saw it all happen," Redpaw meowed. "Fisherkit was chasing after you and couldn't stop. Now what's this 'sky ant' stuff all about?" She pawed up a bit of snow and examined it carefully. "Are there really ants living in this snow?" She wanted to know so she could make sure they stay out of her fur. She had accidentally sat on an ant hill once and that's an experience she never wanted to repeat.
"Likely story," came her disbelieving mutter, quite convinced his actions had been intentional despite Redpaw's defense. She glanced up at the apprentice and squinted, thinking that she recognized her from somewhere when it dawned on her. It was Antpelt! "They're not just living in it. They are it! Shouldn't you know that though, Antpelt, since you're so close with them an' all?" Sunkit snickered at the memory of watching the she-cat try to rid herself of the little insects, not to mention how long it took before she saw Redpaw sit down again.

"Ha! Ha! I remember that!" Fisherkit snickered.
Redpaw glared at the two kits but especially at Sunkit for calling her that teasing name. It wasn't only her misfortune to sit on that ant hill but she had to do it in front of a group of kits. That event happened more than a moon ago and she had hoped her clanmates had forgotten about it by now. She figured the kits were probably playing some game, so she decided not to make a big fuss over it. It could only make matters worse. "Looks to me that you're closer to them than I am," she told Sunkit who still had snow all over her from her crash into the snowdrift. She shook off the few flakes from her own fur.
Sunkit was fazed for but a moment before she hatched a plan. Without warning she pushed Fisherkit to the ground again, but this time she planted all four paws firmly on top of his larger form. Safely out of reach of the sky ants, she shook out her fluffy pelt vigorously. "Not a problem now! I will make Fisherkit my sworn protector. Fisherkit, I hereby knight you into my loyal guard and you will now be known as Sir Fisher." She dabbed her unwitting victim on the tip of his nose.
