The ground shook.
It wasn't a little tremor they were used to. It was a constant quake, one that woke up every animal in the abandoned half of the city. Birds littered the sky as Funk E'tan was shaken awake. He had been sleeping a lot lately, but even he couldn't sleep through this. Every step he took shook, but not from his own volition. High pitched shattering of broken glass and the heavy thuds of stones falling out of place pulled him further. They were already pieces he was worried about, but they didn't hit any of the dens. Peaking outside the church doors showed bumper to bumper traffic of monsters. They were all a hideously bright yellow, with long arms that could reach out and grab you. A few had things hanging off of them, large balls bigger than anyone had seen. When the monster stopped, it swayed back and forth, hitting another monster in front of it with a crunch. Not a tap like running into another cat, or a screech of metal on metal he'd seen with other smaller monsters. But a crunch. One that could easily squash a cat beneath it. The twolegs yelled at each other, it was the only moment Funk cracked a smile.
"This isn't good." When he was sure they were all finally gone, another group drove up. Kicking the earth into overdrive again. They carried wood and stone and gravel and sand, trucks filled with paint and cement and wire and brick. Dust was kicked up and Funk sneezed until it settled. The League had a few rules, enough to be called a system. When there was this much trouble, they'd congregate at camp. It would hopefully be only a matter of time until everyone got here. For now, Funk E'tan stepped away from the window and headed towards the nursery to lead the younglings out of the crumbling camp. A large stone fell next to him, shattering the floor. He didn't even flinch.
(everyone will eventually meet up at the camp and we'll go from there. but i wanted to give you all the opportunity for your cats to travel to camp and see all the monsters. maybe even interact with them. up to you.)

Senescence watched the chaos with about as much interest as one would expect of the she-cat, as though she'd seen this time and time again. In fact, unlike Funk, the Proxy actually appeared to be sleeping for a good short while through the chaos, as though the ruckus didn't bother her in the slightest. Eventually, however, Agamede was just sitting there, constantly poking her in the side to wake her up, knowing full well she wasn't actually asleep, and she raised her head to level her daughter with a look of mild irritation before she stretched and rose up to all fours, now standing far above the younger she-cat's average height.
Rising to her paws, the pair eventually found themselves by Funk E'tan, with Agamede actually waving a greeting from her mother's shadow, while Sen barely offered a glance at the Nemesis. "I never liked that window anyway." She commented blandly, eyeing a random window.

Vera Lynn let out an undignified squeal as a large chunk of concrete just narrowly missed her. It would seem as if the world was ending and she darted across an opening as a huge yellow thing passed by just narrowly missing her. She remembered these things from when she was still wandering. They were large, awful smelling, and crushed things without remorse. This was not ideal, especially since it looked like they were focusing on the buildings the league lived in. There were already unfortunate cats crushed by the construction that she passed on her way to the main camp. They would be the first of many She thought as she breezed by. By now the leadership had to be aware of what was going on and had to have plans for evacuation or relocation.
Michele-kun watched from high up in a tree as his workshop was flattened. All his work was destroyed, months of research and hours of laboring. If he was a reckless cat he would have charged at the beast. Instead he turned tail and headed to camp. The ground was torn up into huge furrows were the machines had driven. The white traine had seen a lot in his short life so far but this was by far the scariest. Nothing had ever harmed the league this much, it was like they didn’t even exist. Right now he really wanted his grandfather to do something, unfortunately the nemesis was still in deep grief and basically useless. So he was surprised to see the Bengal out in camp with Senescence at his side.
Creek was nowhere to be seen. Actually, now that all the cats were starting to gather around, it seemed that no one had seen him or Loelia-kun in a few days. Odd.
Louella snickered as one of the windows broke, "We are in a real bad spot now, huh?" But she could turn this in her favor. Scanning the crowd, her baby blue eyes finally settled on the slim form of her adopted father, Lorah. He'd been avoiding her since her return to the League and for good reason. She'd been plotting to kill him from the second she found out he'd gotten all of her sisters killed.
"Daddy~" She purred, padding up to him and rubbing her heavily scarred face against his. She made sure to curl her lip every so slightly so her fangs brushed against his cheek, then, voice laden with sarcasm, said, "I'm scared. What do you think is going to happen to us?"
Viatrix-chan was trying to look strong for her mothers, but all of the vibrations and screeching monsters outside would make any kit scared. She had been curled up against Sen's side while she was sleeping and tried to do the same, but was roused when Agameade woke the proxy up. She got up on all four paws too but made sure she keep touching Sen's arm (since she couldn't reach her flank), "Can you make them go away, Senpai?"
Having been raised mostly by Innocentia, Viatrix-chan often confused Senescence's pet name as her real one.
Caramelcream burst into the main chamber like a bat out of hell, his fur fluffed to the max, which was really saying something since she was normally ridiculously fluffy. The WinterClan-blooded she-cat looked absolutely spooked out of her mind and the sight of Funk did little to sooth her nerves, "WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE THOSE THINGS!?"

Lorelei Manina wasn't far behind the group, her pelt dusted with gravel as she definitely got too close to the monsters. It was all a game and she may as well have won by making it out alive. The loud noises and dancing around falling rubble was nothing compared to her past, so it was easy as she made it and quickly went to Agamede's side. "Yeah, though this is a way bigger renovation than i thought. Twolegs can be so picky."
He wanted to pass by them. He had to get to the Nemesis. But then a monster in front of him pushed on the gas, and went fast enough to throw Venti off his rhythm. The orange and white tom stumbled backward, shaking his head from the gaseous smell as he bumped into Vera Lynn. It wouldn't have been enough to hurt her, maybe make her lose her balance as Venti helped her straighten back up. "Sorry about that. Are you okay?"
This wasn't good at all, all the shade left Evangeline-chan in the harsh sunlight. She didn't wanna join the others, didn't want to see her sister who was so clearly favored. The cream she-kit crouched next to the demolished nursery, unaware of another rock teetering high above her.
"Really? I would think you would have broken it already if that were the case." His heart pounded in his chest, but he managed a quip for Senescence and a wave of his tail to Agamede. Funk had to do something, but what? The church wasn't going to hold, nor were any of the other buildings they had housed in. It was like every twoleg woke up at once and decided to come over. Ears pinning to the back of his head briefly, he looked up at Caramelcream. "Monsters, as you would call them." He answered, although it was drowned out by the sound of another driving by. "These ones have been quiet for a while. Laying around everywhere until today. For now, we need to gather everyone and then go from there."

Vera Lynn had been thrown off balance by the larger time but thought nothing of it. “It’s fine.” She shrugged it off there were larger problems that had to be addressed first before minor inconveniences. In her mind there was an order of things to be done, the first was to get everyone out of here, preferably into the forest. That would at least give them sometime to gather their bearings, the ruins seemed to be the major focus at the moment of the monsters. It would be much easier to come up with a plan when there was less danger of being crushed every five minutes.
Michele-kun spotted a small cream kit standing under teetering rocks. While he was not sure who the kit belonged too, it didn’t seem right to let it die just yet. So he picked up the kit, regardless of weather or not she liked it. He deposited her in the middle of camp, far enough away from anything that would crush her. Despite what his face showed, Michele had a lot of emotions. The white tom also just liked kits, they had so much curiosity and nothing seemed to stop them.
Huxley-chan had cowered in the corner of a den at first too scared to move. Then he realized everyone was leaving him alone. The sociable kit panic and charged out looking for anyone he could find comfort from. The first one was Senescence, one of his adoptive parents. He burrowed his dark furred frame into her side, not paying any attention to others. He unlike Viatrix was more than willing to show his emotions. Huxley had to be one of the most expressive cats in the league, probably due to his early days living elsewhere.
"HEY! Don't touch me, runt!" Viatirx-chan hissed as she felt her little brother Huxley-chan brush up against her flank. She gave him a harsh shove with two front paws of unsheathed claws, "SENPAI! I was here first! Make him go away or I'll SCREAM!"
Of course, she was already screaming, but anyone who knew her was aware that her current volume was child's play compared to what she was really capable of. She glared daggers at the other kit while rubbing her face against Sen's leg, waiting for someone to make their next move. @atomheart Honeystorm
"I suggested Agamede break it, but it seems she disagreed and wanted it kept." Senescence answered Funk back, and then Viatrix started screaming, and the Proxy immediately used her paw to pick Huxley-chan up, placing him on her back, and turning her head down to look at the shouting Viatrix. "There. He's away from you, now stop yelling. If you keep it up, the monsters will get you." Her tone didn't seem particularly pleased.@atomheart Jadie
Agamede nodded slightly to Lorelei, only half paying attention to Funk and her mother's conversation for the moment. "They're strange creatures aren't they? Never satisfied." strawberrycupid
"..." Viatrix-chan's ears were pinned to the back of her head as she looked from Senescence's face to Huxely's and back a couple of times. Each time her gaze returned to her mother, her eyes filled more and more with tears. Finally she stayed focused on her mother for a few seconds and, the second a tear dropped from her eye, she threw a flow blown tantrum.
"THAT'S NO FAIR! I WAS HERE FIRST!" She wailed, throwing herself on the ground. Her words had double meaning, for she was the first kit adopted as well as the first one to find Sen's side just now, "I DON'T WANNA BE EATED BY THE MONSTERS! I WANT SENPAI TO LOVE ME!" The blue-gray she-cat was on her back now, hitting and kicking at air, claws unsheathed and lethal if you got too close, "MAMA! MAMA! DO YOU LOVE HUXLEY-CHAN MORE THAN ME!?"

Huxley-chan couldn’t help but smugly grin at his sister throwing a tantrum. This was why his mothers had taken him in, they wanted a reasonable child. He nuzzled into her shoulders finding the warm ginger fur comforting amongst all the chaos. He knew he was antagonizing his sister, but he didn’t care. Plus it wasn’t like she needed to much help to be truly ridiculous. Up on Sen’s back he was safe from not only Viatrix but also the monsters. “With that attitude I think she does.” Huxley muttered, not caring if Via heard him. It would serve her right, couldn’t she see past her own nose that big things were happening.
"Huxley, behave, or I'll set you back down." Senescence chided, turning slightly so it was harder for the young tom to see Viatrix and try to antagonize her. Then she slowly leaned down into a sitting position, looking at Viatrix with her usual bored expression. "Do you want to take a deep breath sit on my back nicely with Huxley, or do you want to take a walk away from the church and the monsters to calm down, Viatrix?" She didn't address Via's screaming or feed into her tantrum, instead giving the she-cat two options to choose from, get to share with Huxley and be high up too, or clear her head away from everyone.

Cats filtered in. Sure, most everyone was there, but Funk more wanted to get a move on so he wouldn't have to sit and watch this family drama. "Truly." The Nemesis sighed, slipping away from the bickering to climb up onto one of the remaining pieces of furniture in the church. "All right. Attention. Children, stop screaming." Funk paused, though his vague command did nothing. As Viatrix's shrill screeches rang through the air, he snickered. "We're going to go back to the mansion for now." It didn't help that the monsters driving too and fro drowned out every other word. Funk shook his head in frustration, rolling his eyes as he leapt off and approached the entrance. Just in time for the monsters to park. "Don't know the way there? Then follow me." Funk said before disappearing, heading towards the distant tree line.
Evangeline-chan jumped in Michele-kun's grip as the slab of concrete fell where she just was. Dropped in the middle of the camp, she turned to say something, but her savior was gone in the crowd. Tilting her head, she pulled herself up and kept far enough away from her sister throwing the tantrum.
The rumbling hadn't been what roused San from his slumber beside little Powder. The cut off screech of Ichi, made San blink open his eyes slowly bewildered.
"Ichi!" Ni shouted from somewhere behind where San and Powder lay. "Oh gods," He gasped.
"Big brother?" San said blearily blinking open his eyes, the ground shook and there was a cracking noise, making San look up.
Ni came bolting back from the back end of the building they'd been living in. There was blood on his paws, but the expression on his face was one that San had never seen before.
Terror.
"San! Powder! Get up, oh gods, Ichi, he's-" The cracking sound behind them grew to a loud rumble making Ni jerk his head back and look wide eyed back towards where some wood began to fall.
Which... didn't make sense, why was it raining part of the ceiling?
"What about Ichi?" San asked rising to his paws and nudging Powder awake.
"No time you mousebrain!" Ni shouted, rushing forward and seizing Powder's scruff. She had grown a great deal since they'd brought her to PI so he struggled a moment but managed to lift her up. "The place is coming down!"
Behind them more of the building began to come down raining wood, debris and dust down, San coughing as the dust stung his eyes.
"Move!" Ni shouted bolting for the broken open door, San taking a moment before following after.
Ni dragged Powder out of the building San a few steps behind as the front of the building shuddered from the back end of the structure coming down.
Ni set down Powder, panting heavily while San looked back.
"Wait... where Ichi? Isn't he back there? The house is coming down!" San said turning to Ni confused.
Ni swallowed. "No time, he. He's dead, San. That monster showed up and we ran, we got into the house just as it brought down some of the wall, and it... it crashed down on top of him."
San's eyes widened, silence between them broken only by the rumbling and cracking of more of their old home coming down. As it came down it kicked up clouds of dust making San and Ni cough.
"We-we should go back for him!" San cried turning to run back in as the front of the building began lean back precariously.
Ni swallowed glancing down at his bloody paws. "There's... there's nothing left of him to go back for." He whispered hoarsely. "I'm sorry San, we've-we've got to get out of here or we'll be joining him." He whispered.
Powder felt herself being moved and pulled herself out of sleep right as she found herself firmly back on the ground. Her brain was moving slow still, but she heard the tail end of the conversation. What was Ni talking about? Ichi was dead? That didn't seem possible. For a second she remembered that these were her captors, but then she ignored the thought. She loved these cats and one of them was dead!
"That isn't true!" she cried, pushing her chubby body up onto shaky paws. "You're lying, Ni! It's not funny." Her eyes were welling up. She felt San's presence near her but her eyes were fixated on the one in front of her.
Ni's ears flattened. "What good will lying do me?!" He demanded. "I've got the remains of him on my paws! You think any of this is funny?!"
"Stop it, Ni! Don't take it out on Powder!" San said, though his eyes were welling up as well. "Ichi-Ichi wouldn't want us to fight! He'd say, 'For foxdung's sake you two! We need to get moving!' or something like that!" For a brief moment San slipped into an almost spot on impression of Ichi's voice that it almost made Ni do a double take.
"Ah... well I suppose he would say something like that." Ni said, eyeing San a moment longer looking a little disturbed. He shook himself. "Let's get moving then, this place is coming down anyways, so no use sticking around."
With that Ni took the lead. "Now come on you two, we can cry over Ichi..." His sharp tone lost it's edge as his face fell at the reminder. He turned away to focus ahead, the noises of things breaking and twolegs shouting more audible now that they were out in the open.
"We can cry after we've gotten to safety, let's go. March." He said trying to regain some harshness but it was clearly forced as the tom lead his brother and Powder away from the wreckage of their home and their brother's corpse.
"That's not..." Viatrix-chans tantrum broke when she was spoken to directly by her mother, she liked being treated like an adult but she also didn't like what she was hearing. Share mommy time? With Huxely-chan of all cats!? She felt the fur along her back raise at the thought. All boys were icky but he was especially so! She couldn't even stomach the thought of having to snuggle with him, "... that's not fair! Huxley got to be up there by himself this whole time! It's my turn!" Honeystorm @atomheart
Powder looked down at the ground as Ni snapped at her, chastised. Her eyes landed on his bloody paws and she flinched. Yeah, it didn't look like he was lying. San's voice took on a strange tone and she snapped her head up again, eyes opened wide at his spot-on impression of Ichi. Before she could comment, the toms had made a plan.
At Ni's urging, Powder moved her paws. She sniffled as they began to move, horrified by whatever was happening. She leaned against San for support as they walked, still tired but now very frightened.
San pressed back against Powder, glancing back at her and putting on his best smile. "It's going to be okay Powder! You'll see-" He trailed off as Ni halted in front of them.
Ni was frozen at the edge of turning onto the main road that was a direct route to the church where most of the leadership hung out. The tom started to shake ears flattening.
"Gods." Ni hissed. "They're destroying everything."
San joined his brother at the entrance of the alleyway his eyes widening.
The street was packed with twolegs, and massive ugly yellow monsters. More vicious and ferocious looking than any other monster he'd seen before. The ground shook as they moved, far more than any monster San had encountered before. And there were so many of them!
He cringed as one of the monster's lifted one massive claw it had attached to it's front. It lifted the claw up to strike the front of one of the old dens. San gasped as the claw brought down the den, tearing through it like a cats claw would to a leaf or some twigs.
"They're destroying our home!" Ni hissed ears flattening against his head, claws digging into the cracked pavement under his paws.
San crouched low to the ground his tail wrapping tightly around Powder. "There's so many twolegs and those monsters, what do we do brother?" He whispered.
Ni grit his teeth, glancing around the area. "Well if they're attack the dens, going through any of them could..." He grit his teeth. "Could make us end up like Ichi, we're going to have to risk staying out in the open."
Ni cast a look at the twolegs and he curled his lip. "Stuck slinking around in our own home! This is ridiculous!" He growled.
"Brother," San asked nervously, the monsters were moving closer to the buildings around them, and he could feel little Powder shaking at his side.
Ni glanced back towards San and Powder and he forced himself to exhale though the anger. "Right," He ground out, the anger smoldering like embers in his eyes. He glanced up and down the street before flicking his tail, "Let's try this way." He meowed.
The part of the street they were on was shadowed by the buildings, and the monsters weren't close enough yet to disturb their stability. "The next alley up, we should be able to climb up on top, that should be easier to get to the church." Ni decided. "Be a bit precarious, but then traveling at all right now is." Ni muttered.
He held up his tail for San and Powder to wait. "On my signal we're running, do not fall behind." He told San and Powder sharply.
He looked towards the twolegs. There was a lot, but once they all seemed focused on the old twoleg den they were bringing down, he waved his tail and took off.
San kept his tail on Powder as he took off, the tip of his tail never leaving her body to make sure she was still with them as they ran.

For so long, nothing had changed. When they took over the city, the trials they faced were trivial. Nothing to write home about. He was able to coast through his leadership so far. His proxies kept their districts under control, and he could focus on his experiments. Because that's what it was all about to Funk. Learning. The reason he came here. Only reason he stayed was that he didn't wanna loose out on the League's resources, and the vague feeling of responsibility.
But as the group began to collect around him, he turned back to watch one of the monsters approach the church. Some of Primal Instinct was able to stay calm, like they had seen worse. Others were charging through the walking monsters, fearing for their very lives. It made him realize how many cats there were in the city, as streams of ones he didn't recognize came charging past them. Most made it, but he watched a few unlucky few get crushed by the twoleg machines. Their blood grinded into the dirt road until they were nothing but a smear. And the twolegs. They just, kept going. Like those cats weren't even there, or alive, or mattered at all.
His thoughts were stopped as a loud crash caught his attention, bringing his gaze to a large rock carried by one of the twoleg monsters smashing into the church. Glass shards rained down on the ground, and the place he once called home began to sway.
