Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The night was dark, and cold. As you would expect in wetlands on a windy autumn night. So why would any cat choose to sleep out in the open? I’m sure even he couldn’t tell you. Curled up sleeping somewhat peacefully on a large rock, was a short furred, tuxedo tom. Even as the wind nearly howled through the trees around him he didn’t stir or even shiver at the chill it brought with it.
It took a great deal of focus for Serenepaw to firmly chase away the negative thoughts that enticed her, but the reward was well worth the effort. The wind was merciless as it cut through her white fur and she evened her breathing against it, focusing on each step rather than the long journey back to her camp; she imagined the warmth home would bring, and she used that strength to pull herself forward even further through the icy cold.
She looked up as the wind whistled eerily through the trees above her and spotted a cat curled up on a rock. Her breath misted before her muzzle as she gasped, and quickening her pace she raced to his side and curled up against him. "Are you okay?" she murmured as she gently felt for a pulse.
The tom didn't stir at first, he somehow managed to slip into a deep sleep that most would find impossible in such conditions but after awhile of sleeping wherever he could find he managed to fall asleep just about anywhere. It wasn't until he heard the cat's voice that he woke. Slowly he opened his eyes, to reveal that they were two different colors, one green one blue. Blinking the sleep from his eyes his jaws opened in a silent yawn.
"I think I'm okay, I had the strangest dream though" he informed the stranger. "Are you okay?"
"It's really cold out here. I'm freezing just on my way back to camp, and I'm moving enough to keep warmer than you are. Are you sure you're alright?" Eyes wide as an owl's, she took her paw off of his neck when she discovered he was indeed alive, and instead sat shuffling her paws and waiting for him to answer her. His eyes caught her attention immediately: one green and one blue, just like her mismatched blue and orange eyes.
"You're like me," Serenepaw murmured, surprised. She hadn't met many odd-eyed cats.
"Yes quite alright." he purred in amusement rolling onto his stomach so that he was no longer watching the young she-cat upside down. "In truth I hadn't even felt the cold until you pointed it out" he chuckled. He couldn't help but laugh a little at the owlish look she was giving him, it was actually quite endearing how shy yet, bold this she-cat was.
"A kindred spirit then" he remarked, his eyes shining in what was either amusement or mischief or possibly even both. "Camp? I wasn't aware there were any cats still haunting this place since the floods."
"How could you not feel it?" Serenepaw was puzzled. It was strange that he was out even, but she couldn't understand how he had failed to notice the biting wind. She nodded slowly, unable to take her eyes off of his, a little fascinated despite herself. His eyes were just different colors, it wasn't so different than normal, but it was still exciting to find a kindred spirit, as he called it.
"Yes, camp. My camp is that way a while," she gestured with her tail, "beyond the ridge and those trees. Now that you feel the cold, you should come with me and warm up."
