Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Lightstep slipped out of the dirtplace. She glanced about, before darting along the boundaries of camp. Everyone else was fairly busy so it would be an opportune time to hide her stash.
With Softpelt no longer the medicine cat apprentice she'd become a bit of a neat freak in the Warriors Den. And thus hiding her seeds under nest wouldn't work. Especially since Softpelt would recognize them right away and know Lightstep had been the thief.
The thought made the gray and white tabby pause, paw hanging over the rock that would hide the seeds from her clanmates sight.
Why was she continuing to do this? Dovewish was alive, she'd seen her for herself. Though Jetstar wouldn't have been her choice of a leader to replace Thistlestar, the she cat had proven to be a decent sort. But it could be a front.
Lightstep's ears lowered as the bad thoughts started returning. Then she shook herself vigorously, dragged out a seed, smashed it with her paw. Bending her head to lick up part of the seed before pushing the rest into her hole and hid them. She let out a breath of relief as the seed quieted the thought, she swayed as her mind began to feel like it was swaddled in cotton balls.
She'd go sleep off the effects and then she'd be more alert when she woke up, with no bad thoughts to trouble her.
It would be a good day as it should be.
The gray and white tabby stepped away from her hidden stash, no longer feeling troubled. She slipped back into camp passing the nursery as she went paying it no mind.
Jetstar, continuing in her efforts to win over the cats of SpringClan had gathered some of the kits from the Nursery. "Come along little ones, I'm going to show you around the area just outside of camp. That should help you work through some of your wanderlust."
Softpelt watched this, the white she cat looking troubled. She opened her mouth to say something, but the words died. "D-Do you want me to watch them with you?" She asked.
Jetstar blinked. "No, I'm sure I can handle the kits. I'll only take the pawful! It'll be fine." She assured the former medicine cat apprentice.
Softpelt looked unsure. "Well-"
Jetstar's gaze hardened and she straightened her back. "Softpelt. I'm certain Fawnheart would rather some assistance then you sitting around catching flies. The kits will be fine, come along!" She said putting on a sweet voice as she guided the kits towards the entrance.
Softpelt watched worriedly, the white she cat's tail flicking behind her. She rose to her paws and stood watching the leader lead the kits away.
Jetstar stepped out of the camp entrance and turned back to the kits. "All right, now make sure you stay close to me understand? Else I'll have to restrict you to camp," She said in what she hoped was a stern but sweet tone.
Coralkit gritted her teeth as they were lead out of camp. She hated being talked to like this—like Jetstar somehow knew better than her, just because of their age difference. Coralkit could make her own decisions, thank you very much! Even if she wasn’t sure if Raggedkit could do the same.
Still, it was probably a bad idea to antagonise Jetstar after the—objectively impressive, she might emphasise—stunt they’d pulled earlier. “Sure thing, Jetstar,” she said, flashing the leader a smile that she hoped didn’t look too evil. “I think we mostly got all the anti-authori....anti-ortho...anti-disathority—all that stuff out of our system. Right, Raggedkit?”
"It's rebellion Coralkit," Jetstar said with a sigh. "Or well rebelliousness, I suppose." She shook her head. "Look, Softpelt said the pair of you were having some trouble playing in camp. So if you behave we'll see about making a new kit play area for you and your denmates to enjoy."
Truthfully such a thing was very low on Jetstar's priorities, but if the kits thought behaving would get them a treat. Well then they'd be easier to manage right? Besides how hard could it be to set aside a kit play area?
She waved her tail. "Come along." She said. "We'll just circle the camp. If I move too fast let me know so I can slow down for you." She told them before she began to lead them along.
Raggedkit was more of an extension of Coralkit than her own entity at this point. Every step her denmate took was mimicked, every distrustful glimpse echoed by hooded blue eyes. "Yeah Corslkit, we're all atgoeiatated out," she chimed in, voice honeyed, though she did look around them with a reverent expression. It was all. So. COOL.
She.sped up until she could speak lowly to Coralkit, "Hey, Coralkit? Those trees in that direction look a lot better than these."
Coralkit turned her head to look at the trees her denmate was indicating, and a slow grin spread across her face. "I'm picking up what you're putting down, Raggedkit," she said in a low murmur, "and I think I like it." Actually, she had no idea what Raggedkit was trying to say, but she'd seemed to have been copying Coralkit a lot recently for some reason, so she was fairly confident their goals would end up aligning, more or less. "You wanna try slipping away and going exploring? There's bound to be a a bunch'a cool stuff hidden away in a forest as big as this."
"Come along you two," Jetstar meowed glancing back and noting the kittens were lagging behind. The leader stopping to wait for them to catch up. "The trees won't do anything interesting just by staring at them." She imagined the kits were trying to take it all in, but she'd rather they try to keep up.
How did Littlestar handle three litters? She'd have to ask her sister in law later.
Raggedkit actually did think those trees did, in fact, look more interesting than the ones near them, but she nodded wisely to Coralkit, appearing as if that had been her intent all along. "Uh huh," she said with certainty, but quickly hushed when Jetstar stopped to wait for them. "Jetstar, we're bored'" complained the tabby, "Can we play a game on the way there?"
"Yeah, can we?" Coralkit's eyes glittered--hopefully in an adorable way, and not a menacing way. She still hadn't quite mastered that yet. Maybe if she tried turning up the charm even further? "Please?" Yeah, that was all she could muster up today.
(sorry for taking so long guys, december was a rough month for me work wise)
Jetstar let out a long breath through her nose shaking her head. "That depends," The leader said stopping and turning to give the kits her full attention. "What, exactly do you want to play? There isn't much we can do out here. You can't run around." She added quickly a stern look on her face.
"But if you want to say... I guess dig for beetles and bring them back into camp I suppose that's fine." That was what kits did? Hunted beetles and bugs to play with and get practice? "Or dig for rocks, or plants too." She mused. "I could allow that."
It would make taking them around camp painfully slow. But perhaps it could provide enough of a distraction for the kits. After all, nothing dangerous could be buried nearby! It'd be fine.
"I wanna do digging! Diggingdiggingdiggingdiggingdigging!" Coralkit exclaimed, and raced off a short distance away to dig around in some rocks. Who knew that old hag Jetstar could actually come up with something fun?
"Raggedkit, come dig over here with me but not where I'm digging because this is my spot!" she chirped, without stopping to breathe. "Go dig, uh, go dig umm over there where that weird rock is!"
Jetstar blinked surprised as the kits eagerly declared they wanted to dig around.
Well.
If it kept them entertained she supposed it was okay.
With a sigh Jetstar sat down to observe the two kits digging in the dirt just outside of camp. Cardinalsong and a patrol of cats glanced over at Jetstar and the kits with a confused look on their faces. But Jetstar offered the patrol a strained smile.
If it made the kits happy, she wasn't going to complain. She needed to keep the kits contained anyways.
The dirt beside the rock Coralkit had pointed out was soft, and with closer inspection would let the kits know something had been buried there recently.
Raggedkit bounced right up to where Coralkit indicated and she eagerly began to dig up the disturbed area of dirt, though she looked a little perplexed after a moment. "Hey, Coralkit! There's some little eggs here," she announced with certainty. She wasn't...totally wrong. It wasn't eggs she unearthed but it certainty wasn't nothing.
Coralkit padded over and snorted. "Don't be an idiot Raggedpaw, those aren't eggs! Those are, uhh...." She trailed off, brow furrowed in deep thought. "Well, I know what they are, but, uhh, I can't say it out loud because I want to test if Jetstar knows what they are too. Yep, that's what I'm doing. Yo, Jetstar!" she called out to the leader. "Get over here and tell us what these things are called so we know if you're cool or not!"
Jetstar sighed wondering what the kits had found. Raggedkit had said something about eggs, though Coralkit had said they weren't.
'Maybe it's rabbit droppings or something.' Jetstar mused coming over, blinking when she saw what the pair had found. "Poppy seeds?" She said frowning softly. "Why are poppy seed buried outside of camp?" She muttered.
While Jetstar was asking the universe her question, Raggedkit was still fascinated by the poppy eggs. Egg seeds. Did they taste like eggs, too? Glsncing up at the leader and then to the side at Coralkit, she then shrugged and lapped one up, cracking it between her teeth.
Coralkit gave her friend a toothy grin. "Have I ever mentioned how much I like the cut of your jib, Raggedkit?" she said, and popped one of the seeds in her mouth as well. "Because I like the cut of your--oh. Oh, wooooooooooooow."
Raggedkit savored the taste flooding her senses, though they were starting to feel a little strangely numb. That was normal, right? "I've never had eggs like these before," she commented to her friend and Jetstar.
