Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Spotracer (This is a few days after the battle with SunClan. They're in DayClan's medicine cat den. Scarletblush is also totally welcome to enter if you'd like her too!)
Angelicpaw moaned a few times as Autumngossamer whispered softly a sweet lullaby over her ears. No one except for the medicine cat was allowed to touch Angelicpaw. The burn wounds were tremendously large, the worse offenders being the right side of her face and right leg. Her face had been completely covered with herbs, making her afraid that her family had left her anytime things became too quiet. Today though all the herbs were removed, but the right side of her face was completely burned off. Even though her right eye made it, her vision hadn't, she was nearly entirely blind in one eye, nor would she be able to walk properly on her right leg again.
"My dads going to be so mad at me," Angelicpaw cried to Autumngossamer.
"Being a warrior isn't everything," Autumngossamer said encouragingly, "In DayClan there's plenty of other jobs outside of warrior work."
"No, dad wanted a daughter he could be proud of, now look at me. He's never going to love me again, he'll hate me like Flamingstar!" Angelicpaw wailed to Nightmarepaw. She was usually so confident, seeing her reduced to nothing more than a kicked puppy was startling. Angelicpaw used to look identical to Flamingstar, but now from her burns her biological mother had done an effective job of Angelicpaw ever being recognized as the leaders.
Nightmarepaw didn't answer to her sister's wailing. She looked out into the distance, clearly lost in her own thoughts. A grim expression was painted on her face. Now that her fur was thinning out of the fluffy kitten fur, one could see her muscles rippling and flexing under her glossy black fur. Her jaw clenched tight while her claws worked in the dirt. It was clear to even a blind cat that Nightmarepaw was outraged and was doing everything she could to hold it in. Her shoulder was burned and blistered, the fur around it clumped from the poultice the medicine cats used to treat it. It hurt but it was nothing compared to the hurt she felt inside. What kind of mother would want to kill her own kits? All because she was different - that they both were different. Now, her sister was scarred beyond repair. Half of her beautiful face was now missing and she would have to live with that permanent scar and forever be reminded that her own mother hated her so much, she wanted to kill her.
(Can this also be the thread where Nightmarepaw meets Fox? Or should I make a separate thread for that?)
Autumngossamer whispered soft hush sounds into Angelicpaw's ears, lulling her back to sleep. When Bloodystar outright demanded her to nurse the kits she almost walked out even after he apologized purely because he told her what to do. But now she was glad she had stayed and taken care of Angelicpaw and Nightmarepaw. They needed a stable parent, a place that they could go to and feel safe. But they had no clue yet that their foster father had attempted to murder her.
Autumngossamer's expression was gentle as she approached her daughter and licked the side of Nightmarepaw's cheek gently, "I recognize that look all too well. You're holding onto that rage, craving revenge. I've been there, filled my heart with hate, spent every waking morning more transfixed on getting back at someone than I did on the world around me. Life was in the backdrop, all I focused on was the end goal, nothing in the moment. So I can tell you that revenge is pretty awesome and you should definitely avenge yourself and your sister, it's quite honestly euphoric. But do it right, strategize what you need to do to defeat your enemy, acquire it, then face them. But when you face Flamingstar, make sure that from the moment you set your eyes on her that you've already won the battle, leave nothing to chance."
She was more serious in this moment than she ever was, but brushed it off with a playful roll of her eyes, "Just a little, motherly advice," She purred as she helped groom some loose tufts of Nightmarepaw's fur back into place. "There is something I should talk to you about though."
Nightmarepaw didn't react when her foster mother licked her. Nor did she even look at her as Autumngossamer advised her. She was sure Autumngossamer was going to tell her not to seek revenge but to her surprise, she encouraged it. At that moment, Nightmarepaw knew exactly what she wanted - revenge. Flamingstar was going to pay for abandoning them, for taking her sister's happiness, for trying to kill them. The end of Flamingstar will be legendary... She startled, being jerked from her thoughts as Autumn began to groom the loose tufts of fur on her back. She finally looked at Autumn when her foster mother told her that there was something she wanted to talk to her about. "What is it?" She asked with an edge in her tone.
(Autumn and Nightmare remind me of this one sketch and Nightmare's just Samantha xD )
"Well... Your fathers gone insane and attempted to murder me multiple times back at camp, then executed Glowstar, and very clearly abused his wife. So I want to largely encourage you not to go back home because he literally tried to kill me, who he considers his sister, someone who he looks at as his mom he also murdered and someone who he forced into being his mate he abused. So I really don't think he's against murdering you and your sister. And I'm just really hoping you're not going to have that teenage moment of defiance that you can take it or feel you have some sort of cause that's stationed only in SunClan. But y'know, you go live your life... That you hopefully keep... I guess. But hopefully me telling you this makes you want to stay in DayClan and not go back to SunClan?" Autumngossamer asked hopefully.
Scarletblush paws were blistered and pink, but she had mostly escaped the horrors of SunClan rather unscathed. She listened to their conversation quietly, waiting until their mother was done speaking before looking up at them "If you go back I don't just worry about your physical safety...." she raised her eyes to look at them "He has a way of breaking down everyone around him into pieces until you don't even recognize them anymore. I stayed behind to help my friend, but by the time I got her out of there Im not sure what really remains of her.... She was so broken that I don't know if she will ever recover" she looked at that two young cats hoping that they would choose to stay to. She didn't regret her own decision to stay in SunClan now that Jetfire was free but she didn't plan on going back.
Nightmarepaw bristled and her blue eyes filled with rage of blue fire. "Y'know, none of this would have happened if you would have just left us alone to die." She fired at Autumngossamer. "You tried to save us but you only made life more miserable for us. I'd be happier in Starclan, never knowing who my mother was and being eternally happy. But no. You had to do 'what was right' and save us. I had to find out that my sister and I are Elementals, the reason we were abandoned was because my mother feared us, our own mother tried to murder us, and for the cherry on top, the tom who raised us like we were his children is likely to kill us if we go back home! What kind of life is this? What would make you think that this was an acceptable life for kits? And not to mention you spent majority of your time in Dayclan instead of with us in Sunclan. The only time we saw you was when you came to check on us. Why would you want to check on us if you thought we were safe with Bloodystar? Clearly you had doubts about him before us and you still left us with him!" She clawed the ground, letting the hurt and anger control her actions and words. "Flamingstar and Bloodystar will pay for what they did!"
Autumngossamer sat there and took every word that came out of Nightmarepaw's mouth. People were always more likely to question the bystanders and the victims decisions over the actual perpetrator. Because they were easier to punch at than their abusers. There was less agony in blaming someone than realizing the person who ruined your life had gotten away leaving a helpless feeling of rage towards nothing that could be confronted.
"Young lady." Her voice was stern, but instead of being scolded or criticized she could feel Autumngossamer's hot embrace as she squeezed her tight and said, "I am your mother, you are my daughter." She had never once introduced Nightmarepaw as her adopted daughter, she was simply her daughter and there was nothing else to add.
She peered into her daughters eyes filled with hate and unresolved anger, "And when there's no one left to blame you can chew me out and I'll always love you no matter what you say." She rubbed the side of Nightmarepaw's face her paw soft against her cheek, "Flamingstar might have feared and abandoned you, Bloodystar may have turned on you, but I'm always going to be right here no matter what. I'm always going to be on your side even when you're angry and think I'm against you, I promise, I'm on your side."
"But I couldn't take you home to DayClan because Angelicpaw was never going to want to leave Bloodystar, she loved him too much. And you can deny it if you want, but I know you were never going to leave your sister behind. If you wouldn't have in a fire, you wouldn't have then. I may have had my suspicions of Bloodystar, but your sister and you would have never seen it. He had just become a priest, barely showed any indication of his true cruelty to those he loved. You were too young to see any warning signs and it was just me vs an entire cult that had publicly imprisoned their members and leader only days ago. I didn't know how to get you out of there when you were personally on Bloodystar's radar."
She smiled tearfully at Nightmarepare, "I'm proud to be your mother Nightmarepaw and I know. I know I'm going to come up short, that I'll give you everything I have in me and it won't be enough. But I'll try my best. If I were a tree I'd give you every apple I had, every branch, every leaf, I love you. I hope no matter what happens you know I love you, but I'll never say sorry for being your mother. I am so proud of you, more than you'll ever know. I know you'll get your revenge, because you're my daughter. You'll walk this world like you own it, if not now, you will soon."
Nightmarepaw hadn't expected the response she had gotten from Autumn. She stiffened when her mother embraced her and gently touched her cheek. She longed to lean into her mother's embrace and find the comfort in her that she once found but she couldn't. She had been betrayed by a cat who was her biological mother and a tom she loved liked a father. Why would Autumn be any different? It was only a matter of time before her persuasive words turned to lies and she, too, will turn her back on her as well. She desperately wanted to believe everything Autumn said but she couldnt trust her. She took a step back, unable to look her mother in the eye. "Perhaps...but if my own parents didn't want me and my adopted father didn't want me, why would you?" She asked rhetorically before excusing herself from the den to get some fresh air.
She stepped out into the camp, the air was crisp and the surrounding trees began to shed their leaves. The cool, leaf-fall breeze carried the vibrant orange and red leaves across the camp floor. She took a seat outside of the medicine den, filling her lungs with the refreshing and icy air and attempting to call her raging emotions.
Autumngossamer watched Nightmarepaw leave, like the tragically, cursed special emo teenager she believed herself to be. She could still remember back to when she was Nightmarepaw's age, always feeling like the main character of her story, those were the days. But there wasn't much more she could help her daughter with. Nightmarepaw felt damned because of her curse, that she couldn't relate even though Autumngossamer had been cursed more times than any cat. Nightmarepaw felt unwanted because she was abandoned, which she was also abandoned as a kit, raised by a fox in fact, not even getting the pleasure of having any parent. Nonetheless Nightmarepaw wouldn't believe that she was genuinely sympathetic and understanding towards her situation. Nightmarepaw was going to be convinced that no one else could understand her, which meant probably ending up in a bad crowd like she had. Teenagers. She missed when Nightmarepaw would cuddle up to her and say she loved her everyday.
Turning to Scarletblush she smiled at her, "Are you hungry? You're looking a little thin lately."
