It seemed like time was passing far quicker than it truly was, what had only been a day or two felt like weeks to the new queen as she lay curled around her kits, her brown eyes staring blankly at the wall of nursery. She had not moved from her nest since the other day despite the effort of her friend trying to get her to stretch her legs and get some fresh air, all she did was sleep and when she was awake she pretended to be asleep in hoped that she would be able to fall unconscious once more, it seemed today that would not work. Pollendrones head lifted off the soft nest and turned toward the nursery entrance where the first Ray's of the rising sun began to filter through, mindlessly she shift carefully away from her sleeping children and shakily got to her paws, her body was weak and her legs felt as if they would give way beneath her at any moment but she pushed herself to move forward despite it. Her eyes narrowed against the soft light that met her as she entered the camps clearing, her legs carrying her forward in an unsteady manner toward the tunnels that led out of camp, she kept her eyes cast down to avoid the piles of her dead clanmates. If anyone called her name she didnt hear it or she didnt care, not looking back as her tail vanished through the tunnels, she stepped out on the other side and walked further before stopping and laying down in the shade of a tree, her body blocked from view by its trunk. Her head rested on her paws, she closed her eyes but remained awake.

Even though it was still a bit blurry and hazy, Scorchedwhisker was finally able to open his injured eye. The cream colored tom had ran his paw over his face, feeling the scars that would stay with him for life now. It was a nice jagged line that fell straight down from his brow towards the top of his cheek, with two smaller scars accompanying it on either side. His throat still hurt him every so often, but at least he no longer sounded like he had swallowed a lawful of porcupine quills. If he ever got his claws on that strange, blue pelted… Scorchedwhisker flexed his claws into the dirt as he walked into the center of Moonclan’s camp. He let out a soft sigh as he looked at the bodies of his clanmates. He sent a quick prayer to Selene, asking the moon goddess to guide their souls towards the isle since they were so far from Sunclan territory. The siamese tom was about to help move the bodies when he caught sight of a familiar pelt. Pollendrone? What was she doing out of the nursery? “Pollendrone…! Pollendrone!” His blue gaze followed her as she seemingly ignored his voice. She should have been resting. Especially after everything that had happened. Scorchedwhisker hadn’t hesitated as he ran after her. She didn’t know anything about Moonclan territory, it would be easy for her to get lost. He ran out of the camp, following her scent to the base of an old tree. He moved closer to her, clearing his throat to alert her to his presence. “Pollendrone, you shouldn’t be out here.”
Pollendrone didn't open her eyes, but her body seemed to recoil from the sound of Scorchedwhiskers voice, turning away from him and curling up into a ball while tucking her face under her paws. She had hoped no one saw her leave, everyone was busy moving bodies and trying to get things as back to normal as they could but it seemed luck was not on her side. She hadn't spoken much to anyone and when she did it wasnt more than a few words at a time, her tone flat and holding no emotion, no one had really questioned her on it, assuming she was just tired from her labor but it went so much deeper than that. She remained silent for some time, but she could still feel him standing beside her, watching her. Why wouldnt he leave, didnt he have stuff to do?

Go away? Scorchedwhisker couldn’t help but scoff a the weak request. Without saying another word he made his way closer to her side. He laid down next to her, getting as comfortable as he could before looking around. “Go away huh?” He echoed, taking a glance over at her. “I don’t think you want that. After all, if I go away whose to say I wouldn’t try to drag you back with me? Or that I wouldn’t go back and get your mate?” The siamese tom offered. He would have done it too, even if he didn’t want to waste any words on the large tom. Scorchedwhisker forced his tail to remain still, feeling it itch to lash violently at the thought of Lionpride. He had left her, right when she needed him the most. All because Bloodystar said he had too, or whatever. “Besides… you’re not in Sunclan territory. What do you know about the lands of Moonclan? Sorry, lady. You’re stuck with me.”
Her ears flattened against her head and she moved away from him when he settled down beside her, why did he have to be stubborn now? She felt a weak growl rumbling in her chest at his threat to try and drag her back, but it faded quickly, and his mention to fetch Lionpride held little promise as her mate was not in very good shape from the battle. "Yes, go away." Even as she repeated it she knew he wasnt going to leave, no matter how much she wanted him to. He only confirmed it when he stated she was stuck with him, her tail twitched and she uncurled her body, almost as if she were going to look at Scorchedwhisker but she didn't. Her eyes stayed on the ground and she got to her paws, turning away from the direction of camp she began to venture further into the unknown land, not uttering a word to the tom as she did so. If he wouldnt leave her then she would leave him, there was a high chance he would follow her but for how long and how far?

Well, he wasn't expecting a growl. It genuinely shocked him. But that didn't discourage him. The tom even went as far to flop down onto his side, giving his limbs a good stretch as before he stared at her. Scorchedwhisker didn't pretend to know what she was going through. He didn't think he would ever understand. Her mother died, her mate nearly died, she nearly died giving birth to her children, and she witnessed cats that should have been dead rising up and attacking everyone. He wasn't going to leave her alone, though. Especially in a territory that she didn't know anything about. He quickly rolled back over when she started to unfurl herself. Scorchedwhisker waited for something, anything from her, but instead, she got up and started walking away from him. The lanky tom quickly rose to his paws and trotted after her. "I think you may have forgotten how stubborn I can be." Scorchedwhisker said with a flick of his tail.
There he was, following her just as she figured he would, frustration was building within in her at his persistence. She ignored him as he trailed behind her, keeping her eyes on her paws instead of the sky as she normally did, she had no idea where she was at this point but that didnt stop her, she didnt seem to care that she could have gotten lost if he hadn't been there. She let the silence grow, unwanted memories of that day raging through her head until his voice broke through them. Her paws stopped and she turned on him, it wasnt a graceful action as her legs were still weak and left her swaying as she now faced him with lifeless eyes. "I dont care, your stubbornness doesn't concern me." Her tail was lashing back and forth behind her, her body showing all the signs of anger despite her brown eyes being void of any emotion. Her sudden change in mood was uncommon, as if a switch had been flipped, a trigger pulled, and being the only on there it was fully directed at Schorchedwhisker. Pollendrone crept forward almost as she had done when they first met but she didnt stop as she got closer, instead she slammed herself into his chest shoving him back. "Leave me alone!" Each word came as a harsh growl and she shoved him again.

When she stopped, he stopped. Scorchedwhisker lurched forward once he saw her stumble, ready to catch her and help her find her balance. But he stopped himself when he was transfixed by her eyes. He was trapped by them. He never saw them so lifeless before. It didn't fit. It was unnerving. The spell was seemingly broken when she spoke, and he found himself pinning his ears back as she stepped closer to him. Unlike their first meeting, he didn't try to back away from her. He didn't recoil at her touch. She slammed against him, but he barely even took a step back. Her body was still weakened from everything that had happened. Leave me alone. If he had more sense, he would have listened to her. Scorchedwhisker would have turned around and left. But he didn't. "No." He said, his voice stern and unwavering. If she needed a punching bag to take her anger out on, Scorchedwhisker would help her with that. He'd be her punching bag. "Scream at me. Hit me. Do what you have to do. But I'm not leaving, Pollendrone"
His words had her frozen, she was standing unsteadily in front of him, staring at him. "I'm not your responsibility, I'm not your mate, so why?" She was still angry, but it was less than it had been moments ago. She took a step back, putting some distance between them as she tried to pull herself together. "Everyone around me, everyone I care about keeps dying and getting hurt. I cant take it anymore." It did seem that way, her mother died, Lionpride had almost died and was still not in the clear, her father was hurt, and even Scorchedwhisker had not yet fully healed from his wounds. She had not been the cuase of any of those, though she blamed herself for Swelteringeclipses death, but she had come to realize that the more she cared the more she broke. She had fallen into a deep depression after her kits had been born, as everything began to calm down, she began distancing herself from everyone, slowly pulling away, that had yet to be found out though as she continued to deny any request to be seen by a healer. "I don't want to feel anymore, I'm tired of hurting." She had barely gotten the last words out before she turned and started to walk away again, stumbling every couple of steps.

He listened, his whiskers twitching occasionally, as she opened up. He wasn't her mate, he would never claim responsibility for her. But she had entered his life, made her way into his lonely little world that he was perfectly content in. Now, he wasn't sure if he wanted to go back into that lonely space again. He certainly didn't want her in that place. She had been so full of life, she didn't deserve to be in that world. Pollendrone deserved to live in the light of the sun. He chewed on his bottom lip for a moment before he ran after her. She hadn't gotten far thanks to her stumbling, and he stood in front of her. "...You're not my mate, but you are my friend aren't you?" He questioned. His voice was soft, dropping an octave just a bit as he looked down at her. "And... as your friend, I want to help you. I can't take the hurt away, Pollendrone. Nothing will, not for a while. It's fresh and it hurts. But... I'm not going anywhere, and if you don't like that you're going to just... just have to deal with it"
She came to a stop once more as he blocked her path, she stepped to the side to go around him but her paw stopped mid step as she listened to him speak. Friends. She felt strange hearing that word from him, she had considered him a friend, but for her it had become deeper than that. "I cant do that, and I cant let you do this.. You'll only make things harder." Her paw gently reached out to cup his cheek as she spoke, resting there for only a second before she drew it back. She gave no explanation as to why she couldn't allow him to help her, or stay by her, she had only just recently realized it for herself with only one other cat having noticed it before even she did. She had developed feeling for the tom standing in front of her, feelings she knew she shouldn't have considering she had a mate and now kits but they were still there and knowing that played with her mind alongside her depressive state. She knew deep down she didnt want to push him away but her mind was working against her, it was fighting her every step of the way and no matter how much she tried it continued to win against her efforts, the words leaving her were unnatural as if she weren't the one saying them, as if possessed by another who was speaking in her place but she didnt deny any of it, she let it come with acceptance. "I would be better off alone, and the sooner you accept that the better." Her eyes moved to look at the sky but shifted direction and instead fell to the ground, the threat of falling tears burning her eyes. "You should just give up."

Maybe he was getting through to her. He was terrible with words. He was terrible in situations like this. Scorchedwhisker was used to walking around with a chip on his shoulder and stone encompassing his heart. The tom didn't like getting close to others, didn't like letting them in. Hell, he had a hard time letting his own father get to know him. Scorchedwhisker had only recently started forming a relationship with Burntphoenix, and even then he kept himself at a distance from his father because he didn't want to intrude on his new family. But Pollendrone... he shouldn't feel the things he did for her. He realized it the night of the blue moon when he had practically implored Silverfringe to make sure she survived. He couldn't imagine his life without her in it, and he knew that it was wrong. Scorchedwhisker couldn't do anything about it now though. He wasn't sure he wanted to. He had let her get close to him, and let her invade his personal space bubble more times than he could count on one paw. But he didn't mind it. Not if it was her. "I can't just walk away now... I think we both know that." The cream-furred tom let out a soft breath as he leaned against her paw, lifting his own as if he wanted to hold hers there before he set it back down on the ground around the same time she dropped her paw. Selene and the Sun god help him. Scorchedwhisker quickly looked around, taking in where they were for a moment before looking back down at her. "Follow me. I know a place that might help a little bit."
Pollendrone let out a breathe and shook her head. "Even now you continue to be stubborn." Despite what she said though, her paws were moving to follow him. There was a blank look in her eyes and a frown pulling the corners of her mouth down. "What makes you think it will help? What makes you think I even want help?" She questioned as she trailed behind him at a slow pace. It seemed nothing she was saying was getting through to him, he was determined to keep trying even after she practicality spelled it out for him. What he didn't know though was that by following her he was saving her from herself, from the dark thoughts that had begun forming.

She was following him. It was a good sign, and Scorchedwhisker took it. He made sure to keep the pace slow, taking an easiest route that he could remember. It had been a while since he traveled through Moonclan’s territory, but it seemed like his paws remembered every step from his days as a wide-eyed apprentice. Scorchedwhisker couldn’t remember the last time he had been to the lake. Was it as serene as he remembered it to be? It had to have been. It was also perfect for a quick meal. The waters provided an abundance of fish. When Pollendrone had commented on his stubbornness a smile had tugged at his lips. “I think you enjoy my stubbornness.” He commented, pausing briefly to shoulder some dark green vines and underbrush out of the way for her.
What makes you think I even want help?
Those words, those simple words, reminded him of their first encounter together. She had offered her help to him when it wasn’t asked, she had forced him to accept her help when he denied it, and now the tables had turned. Now it was he that was offering his help and forcing her to accept it. Scorchedwhisker couldn’t help it. He hadn’t even realized it. Not until the laughter left his throat. It was soft, barely audible, but it hung in the air like a light mist. The tom that hardly smiled, that only scowled, had actually managed to let out a small laugh
Her paws followed the path he was leading her down, eyes cast to the earth as she relied on the sound of his voice and his scent to stay behind him. It was clear that his attempt to help wasnt going very well as she remained silent and distant despite all he was saying, she truly had wanted to be alone but then, who would ever believe that. She let put a huff in reply to his comment on her enjoying his stubborn behavior, but that was it as she pushed past him through the undergrowth he was holding out of her way but she kept walking instead of stopping to let him take the lead once on the other side. Her mind was buzzing but she worked to push all thoughts away, to leave her mind blank, the silence that was forming around them put her at ease but a strange noise she had never heard cuased her to lift her head. It was soft and if not for the quiet around them she would have missed it, her eyes were on Schorchedwhisker at last, head tilted as she looked at him trying to decide if she had heard correctly. "Did.. Did you just laugh?" She was confused, why did he laugh, why was it now that it had happened? If she had heard it a few days ago before everything had happened she would have been jumping around him with a wide smile, her quest to get the grumpy cat to feel joy a success, but now in this moment she could only stare at him as her emotions waged war against one another in a silent battle where only one would be the victor. As soon as it had blossomed in his throat, the laughter quickly died when Pollendrone addressed him. Scorchedwhisker had frozen in his tracks, even taking a step backwards as his blue eyes grew wide. He had laughed... he did. But it had happened at the worst time. The siamese tom flinched a bit, curling his lip as he scolded himself. Idiot! She probably thought he was laughing at her! But he wasn't! "Crap... uhm... well, I did." Scorchedwhisker stuttered, stumbling over his own words. "I did, but not at you! Not at all, I would never especially not now...! Of course not...!" The tom pinned his ears against his head as he started to avoid her gaze, once more looking at anything other than her as he swallowed thickly. "It's just... well we've come full circle and I was just... I guess I laughed at the irony of the situation and all... you know seeing as when we first met you were offering me help and I was refusing and... uhm... foxdung..." He hissed
Even as the tom stumbled to explain himself she could feel the pull of a weak smile on each corner of her lips, her mouth twitching as it fought to show her deeply buried emotions she had so easily thrown into the abyss within. She couldn't explain what it was, how despite her current state this very cat she was standing in front of, could still manage to show her a light where she thought there was none. Pollendrone was still staring at him, the expression on her face probably a bit confusing as it switched back and forth between possible joy, and then nothing. At last the smallest of smiles rested firmly on her face, barely noticable, a smile that would leave one wondering what exact feeling had caused it to sprout, with it her eyes narrowed and she stepped forward, invading Scorchedwhiskers space as she had done many times before. "This was not how I imagined making you laugh, it doesnt count." She looked up at him, her eyes clinging to his, truly looking at him for the first time since he had followed her from the camp. Would he see what her eyes held now? Would he see within them how she felt in this moment, the torment she was fighting and had been fighting since the day of the fire, would he care enough to try and understand? She was losing this battle with herself, yet she refused to seek help, unwilling to burden those around her with something she could not properly explain, how do you tell those you love, you no longer want to breathe lives air.. Scorchedwhisker couldn't believe how badly he messed up. Of all the times he could have laughed... He was ready to smack himself. he had opened his mouth to apologize when she had suddenly stepped closer to him. She had never been shy about invading his personal space, and though he would have stepped back before in an effort to put space between them Scorchedwhisker remained where he was. The siamese tom had looked up at her quickly, gazing down at her as he sat there slack-jawed. She was smiling? It was slight and small, but Scorchedwhisker was sure it was there. Or was it his imagination? Was he hoping that it was a smile? Some small glimmer of happiness? He couldn't be entirely sure. Her words had almost gone unnoticed if not for the twitch of his ears as she spoke. The Sunclan warrior was too transfixed on her eyes. There was so much emotion and yet so little swirling in those brown eyes of hers but he could see the storm lurking in those brown depths. It was a strange sight. She had been so full of life, and yet it all seemed to fall apart after the fire. Pollendrone had gone through so much within a short amount of time... no cat deserved that, especially not her. It would have been so easy to reach out and brush his cheek against hers. To pull her close and show her that she wasn't alone. But he couldn't. He didn't know how and it just wasn't his place. He wasn't her mate, and that was something he had to remind himself of constantly.
He wanted to be selfish. He wanted to beg and scream at her to keep fighting whatever demons were plaguing her, scream at her not to abandon him after forcing herself into his life and thus forcing him to live in solitude again. Scorchedwhisker wanted to help her fight. But he didn't know how to do it. The cream-colored tom's brows furrowed slightly. It wasn't a scowl, not his normal one. He looked almost desperate, worried, and scared as he gently brushed his paw along her cheek as he held her gaze. It was a tender moment that even shocked him. "I know you're tired, Pollendrone..." Scorchedwhisker whispered. "I know you're tired, and you don't want to fight anymore. Who could blame you? No cat should have gone through what you did, and it must feel like you're drowning. But if you don't want to fight anymore, I'll fight for you. I'll fight for you, with you, even against you if I have to... I'll do whatever it takes, whatever you ask me to do if it will help you. If you need me to back off, fine then. I'll fight for you from a distance. If you don't want me to leave, I'll stay right here with you. Just... please, Pollendrone, don't give up on yourself... not now... not ever. You don't have to go through this alone so please..." He begged, his voice growing more desperate as he cupped her cheek in his paw. "Don't leave m... Don't leave us..."
