Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Ribbondance paced through the forest with her nose to the ground, eyes darting across the forest floor. If anyone caught a glance of her, they might've assumed she was simply trying to hunt, albeit with extremely poor technique. But if they looked closer, they would see her mouth moving, muttering the same words over and over. "Where is it, where is it, where is it..."
Though her facial expression and tone were as dull as ever, there was a franticness in her movements that betrayed her true emotions. "I must've dropped it when I came back to camp this morning..."
It had been a long day of training his apprentice, and Oathkeeper had decided to use his time afterwards to himself. Maybe he could catch some prey to go back with, or perhaps he would continue his own training by himself. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure what to do. Although the ginger tabby was already wandering through the forest, he was debating going back and volunteering for a patrol or quest.
It was right when he had almost fully decided on turning back around that he saw Ribbondance, and he paused in his steps. Oathkeeper watched with interest, with his head slightly tilted, trying to listen in on what she was muttering to herself. After a few moments, he said, "I don't know what you're trying to catch, but you'll never find anything like that."
Ribbondance looked up sharply, her heartbeat calming somewhat as she recognised Oathkeeper. Not her first pick for the Clanmate she’d rather bump into right now, but at least he was a Clanmate, and not a badger or something.
“Not hunting,” she muttered, straightening her posture and turning to face the other warrior. “I...might’ve lost something of mine around here this morning. Didn’t want to risk leaving it until tomorrow and never finding it again, so...” Her mouth felt dry, and she trailed off. It seemed silly now that she said it out loud, especially when she could easily be doing something more productive instead. “I was planning on hunting later tonight to make up for lost time, if that makes any difference.”
As she spoke, a small frown formed on Oathkeeper's face, and his ear twitched. "How much time have you wasted looking already?" he asked, a sigh joining the words soon after. His tone was almost accusatory, and he tore his gaze away from her. Honestly, if she had been searching for whatever it was since morning, she should have asked someone for help.
Shaking his head, Oathkeeper turned away from Ribbondance, taking a few steps in the direction that he had just come from, green eyes scanning the ground for anything that seemed out of place. "And let me guess, you're going to need my help to find it," he said, despite already joining in the search on his own. He hadn't been expecting her to ask for help, but if she truly had been searching since morning, then she could definitely use the help of another pair of eyes, and perhaps even a hunting partner to make things even quicker. Not that Oathkeeper minded, since he had been debating on hunting as well.
Ribbondance rolled her eyes, though the rest of her expression remained rather neutral. “You said it, not me,” she said, turning her attention back to the ground when Oathkeeper began looking too. She was somewhat surprised at that; it was a nice thing for him to do, even if he did berate her a little bit as he was doing it. Alternatively, he was just doing this so she would owe her a favour, which would be less nice.
“Look for a red ribbon,” she added. “Kind of tattered, about a mouse-tail long. It’s supposed to be attached to a little bell, but it must’ve come off when I went out this morning...”
Oathkeeper paused in his search, glancing over at Ribbondance in disbelief. "All of this for a ribbon?" he asked, the low tone of his voice almost seeming angry, even if he wasn't. Though he really shouldn't have been surprised, given the she-cat's name. It was clearly something important to her, so he shouldn't berate her. Too much. He bit back a sarcastic comment, deciding that there would be plenty of time for that later.
With a small shake of his head, he went back to his search. He just hoped that there wasn't too much ground to cover yet, or this hunt could take a few days. "How far out did you go?"
Ribbondance rolled her eyes. “Yes, all this for a ribbon,” she replied. Her tone was fairly nonchalant as it always was, but she couldn’t help but feel slightly attacked. Then again, Oathkeeper hadn’t made another comment like that; if he bit his tongue, then she would bite hers—though she suspected he wouldn’t take well to her next statement.
“To be honest, I went all the way to the border with it,” Ribbondance said, keeping her gaze away from the tom. She didn’t want to see his reaction, if he turned out to be bothered by it. “I take it there most mornings and sit for a while. So—well. You see the problem.”
what border, you ask? ...whatever one makes the most sense LMAO i feel like I’m playing fast and loose with the territory but oh well
It almost seemed as if Ribbondance was a tight thread, threatening to break if Oathkeeper put more pressure onto it after his original comment, though he had never been the best at reading others. So perhaps he was just imagining the tension in their conversation, but perhaps he should ease off a bit anyway. Shut his mouth, so he wouldn't accidentally say anything else that might upset her, even if he didn't intend to.
When she answered his question, however, he froze in his tracks yet again, lifting his head to look across the trees, his heart sinking slightly with every foxlength. "Hope you don't have any other plans for the day," he said, tail sweeping behind him as he tore his green gaze away. So much for those hunting plans then, it seemed. Heaving a heavy sigh, he moved on to the next patch of grass to search. "Or tomorrow, at this rate."
fair tho. if it helps at all, here's a wip of the map. its still unlabeled rn but hopefully you can figure out where things are based off of the description on the guide oop. the large tree in the middle of the small mountains would be where the camp is
Ribbondance hummed in agreement, low in her throat. “Don’t worry, I never have any plans,” she muttered. It wasn’t something she was bitter about—it suited her, even. It was also unlikely that Oathkeeper knew her well enough to know she usually spent her day mostly alone, so she could assume he wasn’t intentionally making a jab at her. Maybe she’d misread him earlier.
Unless she unintentionally held him hostage until they found her sister's damn ribbon. “You don’t need to keep looking if you get bored,” she said after a few more moments of scanning the undergrowth, slowly making progress. "What is it they say, everyone should do one good deed per day? Given how much time this is taking, this probably counts for like five good deeds already."
mfw you got me the map and then i just never replied feels on brand for me thank u tho anyway i guess she went south that feels like it makes the most sense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Had he insulted her again? At this point, he should just shut up, or accept the fact that Ribbondance probably holds him in very low regard. Not like that would be a new thing, with how often Oathkeeper seemed to make enemies with nothing more than his demeanor. He could count on one paw just how many friends he even had - wait. Did siblings count as friends? If not, perhaps he didn't even need a paw to count.
Just as he had decided once more that it would be best to permanently glue his mouth shut, Ribbondance spoke again, and Oathkeeper couldn't help but roll his eyes. "And if I gave up now, I would need to get a name change, wouldn't I?" He had already gave his word that he would help, didn't he? Wait, did he actually, or did he just start helping on his own? Shaking his head, he dug further into his patch of grass, coming up with nothing, and inched forward. "If this is already five good deeds, I can't wait to see how many I've stockpiled once we've actually found the thing."
