Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It had been over a moon since the attack on the league. Since Thistlestar had come back barely responsive and badly hurt.
He was in no shape to lead and hadn't been able to name a new deputy.
Thus the medicine cats had been waiting, desperately hoping for a sign.
Softpelt had gone out the night before, telling any cat she passed about how she was planning on going to the Japanese garden for enlightenment and herbs.
She arrived in the clearing of SpringClan's camp, a very small basket she'd grabbed once from a visit to twolegplace gripped firmly in her mouth, containing plenty of herbs, particularly jasmine and catmint.
Then she noted it, something glinting in the ground and the basket slipped from her mouth.
Just outside the leader's den, claw marks were drawn in the ground, and embedded in the earth was some sort of sharp jet black metal shaped like claws that gleamed in the dawning light.
Softpelt's eyes widened. "A sign!" She cried, rushing towards the medicine cat den and thrusting her head inside. "Fawnheart! It's a sign!"
Softpelt's initial cry drew the attention of some of the other cats. Cardinalsong returned from the dirtplace tilting his head and going over to the source of the commotion.
"Hey, there's something by the leader's den." He meowed, tail flicking behind him as he tried to get close to see.
Before Fawnheart could respond to Softpelt's words, Softpelt made a beeline for the stump, heart pounding. Legs shaking.
"SpringClan! StarClan has answered our prayers!" She called, her voice shaking a bit. She did her best to put on an excited expression even as her stomach did nervous flips. How would they react? This could go a multitude of ways. "They have sent us a sign!"
Dancingdragon was among those whose attention was drawn. Given the state of SpringClan's leadership, she'd been on her best behavior lately, only heckling Goldengriffon when she really truly couldn't resist, hoping that StarClan might notice her diligence and select her as the one who would fill the clan's vacancy. So when Softpelt's cry sliced through the quiet morning, she was quick to her feet. "Well, what'd they say, Softpelt?" She demanded, a bit of unintended heat in her tone.

Strawberrykit came bounding over, hearing Softpelt's cries of happiness. She stopped and looked at the sign and fluffed up her pelt with excitement. "StarClan has chosen a new Leader!" She exclaimed happily.
Bloodstorm came running into the camp laden with prey in his jaws. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the sign and then scoffed to himself as he padded pasted the demanding cats surrounding Softpelt and placed his prey on the fresh-kill pile.

Goldengriffon pushed his way towards Softpelt, eager to see what the sign was that she spoke off. He tilted his head as he looked at it. He had never seen anything like this before. He carefully crouched down and looked at it. It was as dark as night... and he had never seen such material before. The pale golden tabby reached a paw and carefully touched it. His curiosity had always gotten the better of him, and this time was no exception. He quickly pulled his paw back after feeling the sharp edges. If he hadn't been carefully he would have easily sliced his paw open on it. He sat up and backed away from it. "It must be something from the twolegs." Goldengriffon commented softly. The tom looked over at Softpelt and Fawnheart. "What do you think it means?" JetclawSpot
Softpelt took a breath then slowly let it out as more and more SpringClan cats assembled. She glanced at Dancingdragon, then towards Strawberrykit doing her best to put on a smile for the young kit.
Before looking around seeking out the cat she sought, and then her eyes rested upon a tan and black she cat who emerged, black ears twitching as she narrowed her bright blue eyes towards the growing crowd.
"SpringClan!" Softpelt continued. "The sign is clear to see. Embedded in the ground before the leader's den is jet black metallic claws that have raked the earth. Signifying SpringClan's need for a new leader. A leader with the claws to protect us," Her voice shook as she spoke those words. "We are a loyal group that strives for peace and prosperity. We are kind, and though some would call such kindness weakness, it binds each and every one of us."
"But kindness alone can't defend us from the cruel and callous. As we saw when the league attacked." Softpelt said softly. "When Thistlestar fell ill, it was obvious what we would need was a cat with the strength to lead us and protect us."
'Not a soft heart that would see the world and only want to heal' She thought to herself privately.
"Which is why this sign, of jet black metal claws digging into the earth, turning over new dirt, signifying a new beginning." Softpelt could feel her body shaking and she hoped it looked like she was trembling with excitement. "StarClan has chosen Jetclaw to be leader of SpringClan."
Jetclaw's jaws had been parted mid yawn when Softpelt's decree rang out through the camp. Immediately her mouth snapped shut and she stared at Softpelt. As gasps slipped from several cats.
Lightstep curled her lips in disgust at the declaration. Clearly displeased.
Fawnheart was sorting herbs and counting her stock to prepare for Leafbare when Softpelt burst through the entrance, saying something about a sign. Trying not to get her hopes up, Fawnheart followed the enthusiastic former medicine cat apprentice much more slowly. As she entered the camp, she found that many of the Springclan cats were already gathering due to Softpelt's commotion. The fawn colored she-cat took a seat in camp, prepared to hear what Softpelt had to say.
To her surprise, Softpelt had told everyone she received a sign from Starclan about who the new leader was going to be. She listened on as Softpelt preached, hoping the white she-cat would get to the point and name the new leader. Finally, Softpelt announced Jetclaw as being the new leader. It didn't quite surprise her. Jetclaw would be perfect for the job and therefore, Fawnheart let out a cheerful meow at the newly made Springclan leader. Tonight, she would have to make the trip with Jetclaw to the Moon Creek.

Strawberrykit padded closer to the object and studied it closer. She had a flash of a jet black cat and a cats claw in her mind but brushed it off as she padded over to the medicine cat and sat down, wrapping her tail around her paws looking at Jetclaw with a tilt of her head. When Softpelt announced that indeed Jetclaw was to be the new leader, she nodded her head quietly in a 'yes' motion. Though she was young, she knew a lot of things, since she was visited by her parents and once by a medicine cat, but never told anyone, not even the medicine cats.
Jetclaw recovered from her shock, and began to make her way over to the stump when Softpelt gestured for her to step forward. The tan and black she cat's mind racing. She had been here a moon, and StarClan wanted her to be leader of this clan?
Though Softpelt's words about needing a strong leader made sense, given that SpringClan had recently been attacked. Perhaps they saw in her an opportunity to sharpen this clan's claws?
Cats parted to let her through and she was almost upon the stump, she had to decide.
'Well leadership brings power,' She thought, 'And if Bloodyrondo's been going around calling himself Bloodystar and it isn't for show, then that means he has nine lives. It'd be hard to destroy him if I'm fighting with just one.'
She climbed up to the stump as her resolve grew and she turned to face the cats of SpringClan.
'I've spent a moon with these cats, and they're all decent. Maybe not the soldiers I would've envisioned myself leading, but I can work with them. I can do this.'
Jetclaw straightened up and gave Softpelt a nod. "Thank you Softpelt, and warriors of StarClan above." She looked up to the stars briefly before her gaze returned to the cats spread out before her. "I may have only spent a brief amount of time in SpringClan, but already I've learned this clan is..." She struggled for a good word. "Special." She went with.
A snort from one of the cats and Jetclaw's gaze shifted to Lightstep, the older warrior she cat curled her lip at Jetclaw, and Jetclaw's eyes narrowed.
"Do you have an objection to StarClan's wishes Lightstep?" She asked the cat. If there were naysayers among her new followers best she deal with them early if at all possible.
"As if a cat from the cult of the sun follows StarClan," Lightstep said tartly. She turned to look to the others. "Have you all not forgotten the last times we've let an outsider take over?" She asked sharply. "Eternalstar who threw out Fawnheart, Softpelt, and so many others and lead to so many worse things happening? Or Tarantulastar who brought an end to the daylight warriors, driving out members again, along with you as well Softpelt, and forced kits to fight?"
Softpelt shuffled her paws. "Well, none of them really had StarClan's blessing they were cats chosen by-"
Lightstep curled her lip. "I know my history Softpelt, I was Cardinalstar's mate, I know he let Eternalstar take over for him rather than step up. I didn't trust her then, and I kept quiet about it."
"Well allow me to assure you I have no intentions of throwing anyone out." Jetclaw said simply. "As for me being a servant of the Sun God... well, things have changed, as his chosen priest promised." She curled her lip. "Is a monster and shouldn't hold the power he does. So let's just say I no longer consider myself a devout follower."
She looked about to the other cats. "I don't know much about Eternalstar or Tarantulastar, or any other leaders who have led you before and failed you. But I will not follow in their pawsteps. I will do my best to lead you well. And thus, if you have any concerns, besides my being an outsider or questions you want me to answer, you may ask them now."

Goldengriffon twitched his whiskers, carefully scratching his chin in thought as he looked up at Jetclaw. He listened carefully to Lightstep and could see her point. Springclan did not have a good record when it came to some of their former leaders, almost all of them having been from other clans. Not many of them understood the way that Springclan worked. For the most part, they were a very peaceful clan. They would fight if the situation called for it, as it did with the league. But they valued life and did whatever they could to preserve it. The golden tabby rose to his paws and took a few steps forward.
"Lightstep," He said, choosing his words carefully as he addressed the she-cat. "Everyone here understands your passion and hesitation. But Softpelt is right. None of those other leaders were chosen by Starclan. You know I won't dictate our history to you, I wouldn't dare." Goldengriffon said quickly, now turning to address the rest of the clan.
"But who are we to question Starclan's decision?" He asked. "Do we risk their ire by ignoring the signs? That has never gone well for any clan in all of our history. If Starclan has chosen Jetclaw to be our leader, surely they have a reason. If you do not trust Jetclaw, then trust in Softpelt. Has she ever steered us wrong? No. She has always put Springclan's well being above all else. I trust her. I trust the sign from Starclan. And I am willing to put my trust into Jetclaw." Jetclaw
"Are we supposed to accept an outsider as leader?"
Among those who spoke out against StarClan's supposed will was Dancingdragon. Between the choler she felt blaze within her, and Goldengriffon's own support, she felt especially defiant to the changes that were sure to turn SpringClan upside down and inside out-- and who was to say it wouldn't just topple in on itself and crush them all? "I agree with Lightstep. For those of us who have grown up here and have watched outsiders sweep in, take control, and almost destroy the values we all hold dear.... Well, how could we trust yet another outsider? Particularly one who comes out from under Bloodystar's rule." She glowered up at where Jetclaw was perched above them, not so quick to believe the she-cat could renounce her faith nor her loyalties to her former clan.
Jetclaw curled her lip. "I was never under Bloodycrow's rule." She spat the name like it was venom. She twisted her head to expose a still raised scar the went from her shoulder and close to her throat. "I got this from fighting him. Trying to save my brother and sister-in-law." Her throat tightened and her claws dug into the stump. "Trying to stop him from mauling my already injured leader, trying to stop him from stealing my nieces and nephews from their parents. I was so badly hurt from the struggle they presumed me dead, and left me for the crows to pick at."
Her throat tightened at the memory. But she shook it off, she couldn't have a break down now. She needed to appear like a leader.
"I understand your fears Dancingdragon, I fought against a usurper who tore everything down. So what I want to offer as your leader, is to sharpen your claws." She dropped down from the stump so she was on level with the cats of SpringClan. Not above them but on their level.
"Cats of SpringClan, the only change I want to make is that we get better at protecting ourselves. That no one may take your preference for peace as a sign of weakness again!" Jetclaw declared. "I will strive to make us strong. But it will not be at the sacrifice of your clan's soul. This I swear!"
"Why shouldn't we just put someone else in the place of leader?" Lightstep hissed. "We should go find Viperstream! Or wait a little longer! Or let Harewhisker step up she's a Trusted it's close enough-"
"Mother! Stop!" Cardinalsong cried stepping forwards. "While it's true we've had bad leaders. Tarantulastar was one of our own! And Eternalstar... well she was because father wasn't quite ready to step up. But Jetclaw's been chosen by StarClan."
"And it's not the first time we've had an outsider as leader in the mountain clans," Firefly piped up. "Wasn't Ratstar of SummerClan an outsider who had to be found in like Twolegplace?"

"Cardinalsong and Firefly are right." Goldengriffon said, casting a soft glare at Dancingdragon. He couldn't tell if the she-cat was sincere of her opinion or if she was just arguing because he was taking Jetclaw's side.
"This is what Starclan wants for our clan." The golden tabby said, raising his voice for everyone else to hear. "We are not the first clan that has been led by an outsider, and we certainly won't be the last. There have been countless times where an outsider has led a clan not of their birth! Many of them proving to be worthy leaders and leading their clans to great prosperity"
A strange chuckling came from the camp entrance, cackling above all the chattering and bickering. As the clan turned their heads, they instantly parted, surprised to see an old familiar face. Entering the camp with confidence, was no other than Dovewish in the flesh. The blue-gray feline had been missing for moons and rumors had spread that she was alive but no one knew for sure. Suddenly, she was here, in the camp. However, this was not the same sweet, broken hearted warrior that had once lived among them. No, she was different. She was more built, broad shoulders and a slim frame, barely recognizable. She wore strange things on her body. Wraps on her upper forearms, feathers dangling from the long fur behind her ear, piercings on each ear, and a two-leg trinket around her neck. "Clearly you need a stronger leader. I just waltzed in here like I owned the place and not a single cat noticed me. See how easy an enemy can enter your camp?" The daughter of Cardinalstar spoke, walking down the middle of the separated crowd to stand before Jetclaw.
"So this is the cat Starclan chose to take Thistlestar's place, hm? You think you got what it takes, do you? I mean, you've only been with this clan for...what? A moon? Can you look me in the eye and tell me that you have Springclan in your best interest? Or, are you just in it for your own best interests? If Sunclan and Springclan ever had to go to war, which side would you be on? Would you be willing to fight your friends, family, and loved ones to protect this clan? Or will you buckle under the pressure and fail Springclan?" She glared at Jetclaw with her intense blue eyes, clearly challenging her.
Lightstep gasped, eyes widening at the sight of her daughter. The daughter who's loss had hurt her so terribly she'd used poppy seeds to numb the agony. "D-Dovewish." She whispered.
Jetclaw's eyes narrowed as she lifted her chin. "If SunClan and SpringClan went to war I would do what needed to be done." She said simply. If the clan continued as it had, she would gladly tear it down. Burn it to ashes for letting Bloodycrow get away with what he had done to Littlestar. "It is not my home." She said simply.
"As for if I have what it takes?" Jetclaw continued rising to her paws. "I will admit, coming here and even after one moon... I've felt restored in a way I haven't been before. I like the peace and calm here. However, peace like this need protection. Cats are not just soft fur, they have claws. And those claws need to be sharp for when a cat has need of them. SpringClan needs to sharpen its claws. And I intend to do just that. After all," She chuckled. "The 'claw' in my name isn't for nothing."

Goldengriffon twitched his whiskers as Dovewish joined the commotion. Even he couldn't hide the shocked expression on his face. Many had assumed that she was dead, and yet here she stood. But she did have a point. No one here had even picked up on her arrival. If Dovewish had been an enemy, they would have all been doomed.
"Starclan has never steered us wrong before. Why would they now?" Goldengriffon asked as he looked around at his clanmates. "Perhaps they see that we're in need of someone to help us? Dovewish just waltzed into our camp, and no one here had picked up on her scent. What if she had been an enemy? We'd have all been doomed." The pale tabby said, reiterating the statement made by the she-cat. His blue eyes looked around the clearing before landing back on Jetclaw. With a simple flick of his tail he made his way towards her side, standing next to her before looking out at the rest of his clanmates.
"Springclan hasn't been the same since our fight with the league." The warrior continued. "It cost us our leader and our deputy, as well as many noble warriors. Perhaps we do need a change. Or will we continue letting other clans take advantage of our kindness? We have always been a peaceful clan, but at some point, we forgot how to defend it our way of life. I stand with Starclan's decision. I stand with Jetclaw."
Jetclaw turned to Goldengriffon and nodded. "Thank you," She said softly. "Your support is appreciated."
Cardinalsong looked at Dovewish and his mother and he straightened up. "Mother you once spoke how you regretted father not taking leadership when it was his to lead. StarClan is guiding us to this choice." He took a deep breath. "And I think we need to heed them, the sign is clear." He flicked his tail to the metal and the claw marks in the ground. "If they say Jetclaw must lead... I believe we must accept it."
"If it will soothe SpringClan and you truly do not wish to follow me then at least allow me to ensure your rejection of me does not leave you leaderless." Jetclaw looked around. "This clan has been without leadership for a moon. After today that cannot stand. I have done my best to get to know several of you during my time here, and I've seen a great deal of good cats among you. But I believe that if you will not accept me as leadership. May you accept the one who I would call my second, should I lead."
She flicked her tail to Goldengriffon. "StarClan, though the sun rises, even now you look down upon us. So... hear and approve my choice. For I select Goldengriffon to succeed me as the next leader of SpringClan."
Lightstep scoffed and Jetclaw turned and pinned her with a look.
"Not because he supports me, but I have seen him do a great deal to help his clanmates during this trying time. Even take the time to check in on me though I was new. I have learned that this is a peaceful and kind place, and it was him who embodied that value the most to me." Jetclaw meowed. "If you accept me as your leader, he will serve as my second. If you do not want me to be leader, at least let StarClan's chosen help cast a vote towards your chosen leader."
Pumpkinking tilted his head eyes narrowing. It... was rather unorthodox for the cat to pick a deputy despite people calling her leadership into question. But she had a point. Goldengriffon had been doing quite a lot around camp. "Are we truly going to question StarClan?" He asked. "StarClan who has never steered us wrong before? If Jetclaw were to follow the ways of SunClan, she would never call on the stars while the sun blazes high in the sky." He said nodding to the shining orb that hung in the sky.
Dovewish had remained quiet, listening to what the clan had to say before finally responding once more. "I'm not convinced. Starclan chose my father to be leader of Springclan. He is known as a hero to most for his selfless act to evacuate as many cats as he could when the rogues took over. However, many also see him as a coward for turning down the position and giving it to a dictator that abused that power and put many of us in danger and divided Springclan. My father will always be a hero to me but if your smart, you will not trust in Starclan. They approved my father to be leader and he let Springclan down, despite helping with the evacuation. Perhaps if they had chosen someone else or approved of someone else, the rogues would never have taken over and we wouldn't have lost so many lives. Be smart about this. Jetclaw hasn't been with you for long and had betrayed her own clan by leaving them and coming here. Imagine what example you are setting for Springclan and the other clans by being desperate enough to choose any stranger to lead you." Her voice rang out over the camp and she rose to her paws. "Listen to me If you want. I know I have not had a place in Springclan for some time but it doesn't mean I don't still care and want what is best for you."
Jetclaw's ears flattened, and her eyes narrowed. "I didn't betray anything. I fought against a cat who led a coup and nearly died from my efforts. I was left to die and barely survived." She straightened up standing tall.
"Don't make assumptions when you've cut in late." She hissed. "I've spent the moon I've been a part of this clan doing everything I can to earn a place here. And since StarClan believes I am worthy of leading SpringClan I intend to do so. Giving SpringClan the same devotion I once gave to SunClan before Bloodycrow destroyed it."
"I will not fall into the traps of those who came before." Jetclaw declared. "I am not Tarantulastar, or Eternalstar, or whoever else you believe serves as evidence against me. I am Jetclaw. I am a warrior committed to my clan, and since SunClan is no longer that Clan, I will give my all to SpringClan. This clan is precious. And I will see it protected, and in turn I will not allow you to cite other cats mistakes, as proof of my own."
"So, Dovewish, unless you have something more to offer, or are planning to return to your clan. I would like to hear from the other SpringClan cats." Jetclaw said, an edge to her mew.
"So SpringClan gets the forgettable leader? The leader whose own clan left her to die? How telling," rose Dancingdragon's acid-tipped laugh. She stood now close to Dovewish and Lightstep, the three voices spitting opposition, the army of three against an army. She did, however, eye Dovewish warily, not fully convinced that the returned warrior could be trusted yet.
Dovewish perked her ears as Dancingdragon spoke. To her surprise, more and more of the clan were beginning to doubt Jetclaw. "You sure have a lot of confidence and ego, don't you?" She replied back to Jetclaw. "Remember, Springclan may need a stronger leader but you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Beware of what you say this very moment because this moment is the most crucial part of becoming leader. The more you lose your cool, the more votes you'll lose. And all I'm seeing from you is hostility. Not once have I hissed or growled at you but here you are revealing that if the clan speaks up against you, you become aggressive because you can't have your way." She clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Some leader you are."
