Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
He woke to a searing pain. That's all he could feel. Everything was on fire. Coyotekit let out a long, pained howl as he became conscious for the first time. His light blue eyes struggled to focus in the blinding light. Well, to him it was blinding. The darkness of the medicine den hid him from the outside world. It enveloped him pungent odors and pleasant aromas, but there was one smell he knew above all the others: mom's. His nose detected her smell, and he let out another wail. "Mama!!!" He then did what all kit's tried to do: get up and find her. He tried to move his legs, but all he felt was pain. He hyperventilated as his eyes landed on his decrepit legs. Was he born like this!?
(Just gonna ping you in case this rp got buried since I haven't replied at all until today) stardance
Lilacbane walked quickly back into the medicine cat den at her sons shouting. She looked like she wanted to immediately coddle him, he was very young after all, but he was still so injured that she was afraid to touch him. So instead she lied down making soft hush sounds, "Shh shh, you're okay, I know, I know it hurts," She soothed him, her southern accented voice tender and loving. Very gently she stroked his cheeks with her tongue. He resembled so much of his father, but had her short fur. "Mother's here."
The kitten kept breathing quickly as he heard his mother enter the medicine den. He was just confused. Lilacbane's soft licks slowly worked him down and his breathing started to slow to a somewhat normal, but still faster than it should be. "My legs hurt?" Tears welled in his eyes as he again looked at his legs, and then his mothers. Why were his so different? Did his father have legs like his. His let out a shuddering breath as he looked up to his mother's eyes. "Why?"
Snowcloak had just come back from a patrol, he figured today would be the day that he would visit his son. He was finally able to muster up enough courage to go and visit his one surviving son. The guilt of losing his children was too much to bear so he kept himself busy in and out of camp. But it stop him from thinking about it. If only he had been stronger, faster...maybe, just maybe, he would have been able to save them from the coyote. But he was grateful that he didn't lose all of them; he had Coyotekit. Snowcloak could at least smile about that.
As he padded toward the medicine den, he heard the sound of Lilacbane's voice. But who could she be talking to? Then he heard the sound of a kit's voice. Is Coyotekit awake? The last time he had seen him was unconscious and bloody. Curiously, he entered the den. He was overcome with mixed emotions - a part of him was still sad, but another part of happy to see that he was well, albeit covered in scratches and bitemarks, but okay all the same. Not wanting to startle them, he approach cautiously.
"Hey, Lilacbane, how's he doing?" he asked quietly as he approached them.
"He's in a lot of pain right now," Lilacbane said, cooing gently at her son. Very carefully she curled herself around her injured son, his legs were mangled, but she was certain that with some hard work and determination that Coyotekit would be able to walk. "Shhh," She whispered in Coyotekit's ears, "Your legs hurt because you're injured, love. All you need is some rest and patience."
Fact was she knew Coyotekit wasn't going to be able to walk again, at least that was the prediction. If he was injured older there would be more of a chance to relearn, but since he was so young he didn't have any developed muscles to help him. But if she told Coyotekit that he might just give up from the start and she couldn't have that.
She stroked Coyotekit across the face gently with her tongue to relax him. It still felt odd being one of the only queens with one kit, the way everyone in camp looked at Snowcloak and her with pity. There wasn't a single person who didn't know what happened to their family.
Snowcloak stared at Coyotekit's, the memory of the not-so distant past appearing vividly in his mind. Feeling himself become emotional at the sight, he closed his eyes and suppressed what he could. His son would walk again, he was certain of it. It will take some time, but it will happen. Laying down on the other side of Coyotekit, he licked his son's head reassuringly. "What did Vixenkismet about his situation? Do they have any herbs to give him to ease the pain, even a little?" he asked his mate as he looked around the medicine den.
Coyotekit's eyes remained wide with confusion and pain as his father walked in. He was already overstimulated between it being his first time conscious, his legs throbbing, and his mother explaining why he was hurt. Adding his father to the mix only made the confusion grow on his face. Their licks helped, but in the end his little mind was going a thousand miles a minute. He looked between his two parents and again only offered a simple thing phrase to them. "They hurt!?" As much as it was a exclamation, his confusion was laced within the words.
