Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The snow was mushy under everyone's paws. WinterClan had always been a frozen wasteland, but today the sun beat hard on their pelts and the snow was mostly water and slush. This type of seasonal change was unheard of during fall, but since this was Howlingnight's first year living in WinterClan, plus the apprentices first fall the only one who knew better was Frostcloud.
Half of him wanted to cancel training under the slippery circumstances, but it wasn't like the weather was going to change anytime soon. Wintrystar requested him to train the demonic ki- apprentices to learn only the fundamentals of serving their clan. That meant they were forbidden from learning any intense battle moves, only defensive measures, but hunting had a lot more leniency. At the end of the day the his mate wanted these apprentices to be able to serve their clan with undying loyalty and submissive nature. That kind of task was impossible given who their mother was, but he had to try.
"You're going to find that we'll barely touch on fighting at all, which is why I'm going to start out with hunting. I can sense some lack of enthusiasm so we'll make this fun. In order for each of you to show me your raw talent you can sneak up on me like I'm prey, Frostcloud can inspect your performance, make sense?" Howlingnight asked.
It really sucked. Well, getting trained by Howlingnight and whoever this Frostcloud was certainly did. But worse was the sun beating down on her. She was used to the freezing cold even in the middle of the summer, so this just didn't feel right. But whatever. It was probably normal. At least she knew that she'd never survive in SunClan.
The silver-gray tabby narrowed her eyes as Howlingnight spoke. They weren't going to learn how to fight? Well that was just great. Were they going to be scent on a hunting mission to the League next? Or maybe to hunt around a fox den? There was no way this ended without one of them dying. She growled a little bit as he went on, but in the end nodded. She hunted with Stormsurge the other day, and she knew that she could get him to teach her to fight. He was so full of himself that she just needed to say that she was better. She reeled herself in. Focus. "Yup. Are you gonna squeal when we pounce on you?"

Dirtypaw sat with he gaze downcast, the sun making the gems fused into her ears glimmer and reflect light. Each time she moved it sent little lights across the snow like fairies dancing upong the glimmering surface. Unfortunatly this made it rather difficult for her to sneak up on anything much less catching any prey. So she was uselss as a hunter... and she wouldn't be learning to fight... Well wasn't that wonderful. How was she supposed to make her momma proud like that? Despite her inner complaints, there was a fake smile on her face. One that she wore constantly to please Dottymask "Yes Howlingnight"
"You're hilarious, really wish you could humor me more instead of getting a beating for it," Howlingnight said, but didn't seem to be joking either. He appreciated some dry humor, but none of the apprentices would be allowed to tell jokes, play tricks, or really any sort of fun. "Now that you're apprentices you'll be working until you sleep. You will only do chores unless someone asks you to, otherwise you will be practicing hunting every waking hour until everyone goes to bed. There's also no more getting prey off the freshkill pile, you'll eat one meal a day and that is any leftover scraps at the end of the night," He explained as he walked further, but the snow was becoming more like slush as he walked. He did not want to be tackled into this gross substance and he doubted the apprentices wanted to train in this condition either, it was a punishment to them both.
"How about we train hunting pounces in the caves today. It's out of all this mush," Howlingnight said, but was already walking towards them, not waiting for a reply back.
The black tom fought back the growl he could feel rising in his throat as he followed his 'mentors' out of the slush. He hadn't said a word since they had set out, not even a noise of discomfort as he dragged his paws through the slush, in truth at this point they had grown numb and no longer bothered him. What got a rise out of him was the fact that WinterClan expected him and his litter-mates to blatantly starve. No, that simply wouldn't do. Howlingnight was a fool if he thought Monsterpaw was going to blindly obey him.
Frostcloud was a powerful cat. She was the Knight of the guards and quite intimidating to most cats. Her crystal blue eyes were like icy shards, piercing through into one's soul, slicing them up from the inside out. She followed Howlingnight to the caves with the rest of the apprentices. She would much rather teach them how to hunt in these conditions. If they can hunt in slush, they can hunt in anything but she remained silent. Frostcloud wasn't sure this would end well. Howlingnight and Frostcloud were too different, yet the same. This could either go really well or really bad. "Perhaps we could teach them to hunt bats." Frostcloud suggested. Usually in the harsh winters, it was hard to find food. Most of the prey were hybernating and the ponds were frozen. Being able to hunt bats as a substitution would be essential.

Dirtypaw followed obediently, like the little doll her mother had turned her into. There was no resisitance or even emotion showing on her face. Just the same smile that she always wore.
Soullesspaw shrugged and followed behind Howlingnight. She didn't hear an explicit no, so she was gonna hold him to it. That or the beating. "Still waiting on that beating Howlingnight. Or-" She pounced onto his back from behind. "Are you gonna squeal?"
Frostcloud rushed forward and yanked Soullesspaw off of Howlingnight with quite a lot of force. "You will learn to respect the ranks above you or you will have the same fate as your mother." She stood over the apprentice threateningly. "I guarantee you won't survive a night as a prisoner so I suggest you straighten up."

Fallenpaw had walked alongside the others, listening intently to their mentors but staying as unresponsive as she could. Regardless of her feelings on the training session and a future of starvation, she remained quiet and kept her eyes trained on the slush covered ground. That was, until Soullesspaw leapt onto Howlingnight. Fear shot through her as Frostcloud tore her sister from the warrior's back, but it was soon replaced with anger. If this somehow ended up in them all being punished... With an extended breath, she managed to compose herself and carefully walked up to the Knight of the Guards. The she-cat was intimidating to say the least, but Fallenpaw had felt intimidated all of her life and she was finally starting to build a tolerance to the feeling.
"I'm sorry, Frostcloud," she said, bowing her head in a submissive manner. "I'm sure she didn't mean any disrespect. We're just so excited to learn how to serve Winterclan and be of use. Soullesspaw probably couldn't wait to start training, but we'll make sure to behave properly from now on."
Frostcloud flashed a glance at Fallenpaw as she spoke up before turning back to Soullesspaw. "You could learn a lot about respect from your sister." She, then, turned back to Fallenpaw. "I wouldn't kiss up too much, kid. If you want to make it as a warrior in Winterclan, you need to toughen up. The tougher your skin, the more cats will respect you. Other clans take advantage of peace keepers." She turned away and started to follow Howlingnight once more.
Soullesspaw hardly flinched as she was pulled off and slammed to the ground. This she-cat had nothing on all the other beating she endured. She quickly gathered herself and rose to her paws again. "Respect doesn't meaning anything with you guys. You'd still beat us. I don't respect cats who don't respect me." She knew Frostcloud would not be listening, but whatever. She followed after her.
"I beat up plenty of cats I respect and I've been beaten by cats who respect me, it's nothing personal," Howlingnight said to Soullesspaw, but nodded in appreciation to Frostcloud. However when Monsterpaw was clearly not moving her gripped onto the apprentice and hauled him forward like a kit. They apprentices were a bit heavier now, but given their new diet restrictions it wouldn't be long before it would be easy to toss them around.
Releasing Monsterpaw once they entered the cave he kept moving, "I'd like to say one of you will grow up to teach me a lesson back, but you won't. The moment you feel victory it'll be the day your freedom ends," Howlingnight said bleakly, but just as he finished speaking the cave rattled and snow began to fall blocking the entrance. It was slow at first, making it seem simple to run back out before it closed them in completely, but that soon proved to be a grave mistake if they had as a mass ton of snow fell all at once blocking the cave they were inside entirely. If anyone had tried to jump through before the snow finished they would be completely buried and suffocating in the snow. One way or another they were trapped in the cave.
She rolled her eyes. Whatever. At least she wasn't being carried like a kit. She stayed silent as they entered the cave. She knew she would teach Howlingnight a lesson eventually. Maybe not for moons, but eventually she'd get out of here. Then she'd come back and take him down. She was knocked from her daydream when she heard the avalanche start, and before she could react they were blocked in. "Great. So is it our job to clear out the snow?"
"Be quiet!" Frostcloud snapped at Soullesspaw. "Now is not the time for your sarcasm." She moved toward the blocked entrance and felt around the snow for a soft spot. "We will have to act quickly. This is melting snow which means it is wet. If we do not act quickly, the cold air will make it freeze back over and ice is much harder to dig through than snow."

Dirtypaw nodded meekly, staring at the snow as if only awaiting the order to start work. She hadn't even flinched as the snow caved in around them, the possability of being stuck not scaring her the same way that it had the others. Truly she had little else to look forward to in this life. Her one chance of becoming a normal cat had been snatched away, and it was clear she would never be able to fully get rid of the demon within her and make her mother proud. For now all she could do was to obey orders and try not to make Dottymask disappointed in her more than she already was.
"Let the kid be a teenager Frost Queen," Howlingnight said, pacing over beside her, "You're right though... It's way more convenient making the peasants do it. Demon squad, go at it, dig for our lives." He said leisurely before falling backwards to a pile of snow that turned out to be mostly slush giving an unpleasant wetness to his fur.
Soullesspaw rolled her eyes at Frostcloud's comment. "If we don't have time for my sarcasm, then I guess we're all dead already." Despite Howlingnight's order to dig the out, she sat down and started to give herself a bath. "I'm good here, thanks." She didn't know what had gotten into her today. Well, she did. Frostcloud. The Knight was too easy to get a reaction from, and Soullesspaw had started to enjoy it..

Fallenpaw followed the order easily, not minding the extra work too much. It was what they were used to after all. She walked over to the mound of snow and began digging at a comfortable pace near the center, though not much progress was being made alone. "A little help?" she mouthed at Dirtypaw, hoping at least she would be of some assistance. Soullesspaw was really starting to get on her nerves with the whole rebellious phase she was in.
Frostcloud wanted to fire back at both Howlingnight and Soullesspaw, but instead, she had a different idea. "Fallenpaw." She spoke with a mischeivious grin on her face. "I appreciate you following orders and helping me dig a way out. I will make sure you are awarded a juicy piece of prey from the prey pile. It won't take you long to be a warrior. Who knows? If you keep up the good work, maybe you will be warrior before the rest of your siblings."
