Weed was tired. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. The mottled tortoiseshell lay right by the initiate’s den. She hated it there. She missed her spot in the warriors den, where she truly belonged. She missed her name. The name that was given to her by her mother. The name she earned when she was promoted to a warrior. She missed the mark of her rank and the way the paint clashed with her dark, patchy pelt. Weed briefly stared at the warriors den longingly. Outwardly she would never admit that she regretted speaking out against Bloodystar during the ceremonies. He had gone too far, betrothing Littlestar’s kin against their will. She had stood with Lionpride as he rebelled against the High Priest’s decision. Then she spoke out against the false diety, and he had punished her. Stripped her of her name and demoted her in front of the clan. It had been so humiliating, but after Weed thought it was worth it. Now? On melancholic days like this? A small part of her regretted it. Was it really worth it? She would never say this to anyone. Not Goldengrace, or Pollendrone. Weed wouldn’t burden them with any of that. Especially not Pollendrone. The initiate curled up as she remembered how she had accidentally stumbled across her and Lionpride. No, Pollendrone was finally happy. So was Lionpride. They both deserved it after everything they had been through. The tortoiseshell curled her lip, disgusted with herself. The pair of them had been forced into prison and starved, yet here she was moping about because of a simple demotion. What reason did she have to be upset? Yes, she was an initiate now, but at least she still had her freedom. She must have truly fallen from the Sun God’s grace…

Some time had passed between Weed walking in on him and Pollendrone, and when he had decided to go and speak with her. Even though his heart ached for Shadeflower, Pollendrone was his mate now and soon to be the mother of his children. She had to come first, even over his own feelings. After she had left, he had went back in the cave with Pollendrone... But now that they had a chance to talk, it was time for him to seek out Shadeflower, to hopeful come to some sort of peace treaty. He followed her scent to the initiate's den, surprised to find it empty save for her. He slowly entered, eyes down cast "Shadeflower?" he called gently. He gave her some space, but was still close enough that they could speak softly. His cheeks felt hot just looking at her, as she tried to push his feelings to the side "I'm sorry about earlier" he mewed awkwardly "I thought maybe we should talk"

She had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed him enter the den. Not until he spoke her name. Her real name. Weed quickly lifted her head, looking up at Lionpride with wide green eyes. "Lionpride..." She quickly sat up, curling her tail around her paws as her whiskers twitched. She offered him a small smile. "Lionpride, please. You have to call me Weed now. I've been telling Pollendrone the same thing. I would hate to see either of you get into trouble using my old name." Bloodystar already seemed to have a vendetta against Littlestar's kin. She didn't doubt that he would find some sort of issue with them using her old name. The initiate quickly took in a breath, waving her paw at him as she shook her head. "No, no. I should be the one apologizing, not you. You have nothing to be sorry about. I acted... too quickly. I should have known that you two would have been together. Truly, I didn't mean to interrupt anything." In truth, she didn't want to talk about anything. She had been convincing herself that her feelings for Lionpride were nothing but a crush. But now that he was here, she was finding it harder and harder to push those feelings down

"Shadeflower, I won't call you by that name" he paused looking up to meet her eyes "It's my fault that you lost your name and rank, it was me that you were trying to defend" he stopped himself, knowing that going down that path would get him no where "but that isn't what I came to talk to you about..." he let out the little air he had been holding onto without knowing it "Shadeflower, I... " how did he really express what was on his mind? It seemed like words just wouldn't suffice, but he had to try "I guess I just feel like I owe you an explanation, not for my sake but for yours... When you and I were talking, I really did like you" he felt heat rise to his cheeks forcing him to look away "You are strong and brave, and I... I did have feelings for you. So please don't feel like you did anything wrong or that whatever sparks we felt weren't real. Maybe if things had been different..." he trailed off, stopping himself from finishing the thought "I never expected to be paired with Pollendrone, nor did I know that my feelings for her would grow like they have. We have been through so much together, and it was the only way I could protect her" he wasn't sure how much she knew about their situation or the things that had transpired in the prison "Pollendrone is my mate now, but I saw the way it hurt you when you saw us together. Shadeflower, I'm sorry for hurting you. I'm sorry... I'm sorry" his voice trailed off to no more than a whisper, his eyes still on the ground.

Weed listened to him, remaining quiet as he spoke. Explanation? No, he didn’t owe her anything. “Lionpride, I knew there would be consequences for my actions. I don’t blame anyone for the loss of my rank.” She said quickly. “But you... oh, Lionpride...” Weed said softly with a shake of her head. Where did she even start? She slowly rose to her paws and took a few steps closer to him. She very gently placed her paw under his chin, lifting it up ever so slightly so that their eyes could meet. “Now, listen time me, Lionpride.” She said, her voice both soft and stern as she addressed him. “You oh me no explanation, and you most certainly do not have anything to apologize for. I was hurt, yes, and I did begin to grow feelings for you. Truthfully, I do wish things could have turned out differently, and yet... and yet I believe that I can be happy for you both. Pollendrone... she’s so wonderful, and she’s one of my most dearest friends... and you... well, Lionpride, you’re absolutely wonderful, a true joy to be around...” The mottled tortoiseshell dropped her paw as she shook her head. “I can’t imagine what the two of you must have went through during your time in prison, and I would never push either of you to speak of it. No one should. I truly meant it when I said that you two deserved to be happy. I care about you both so much... I would never do anything to hurt either of you, nor would I do anything to make you both uncomfortable. But please... believe me when I tell you that you have nothing to apologize for. Nothing.”

Lionpride braced himself for a good cuff to to the ear, a slap across the face, and even screams. He flinched as her paw gently cusped his chin, drawing his face and eyes upwards to meet hers. It was such as simple touch, and yet it sent his heart pounding in his chest harder than any fight he had ever been in. A soft gasp escaped his lips, but he remained silent as she spoke soaking in her words like an dry sponge. His eyes widened, and when she was done speaking he was smiling again. It was a small smile, almost so small that one might have thought they were imagining it but it was there "Shadeflower..." she wasn't angry, but even though those were the words he had wanted to hear part of him felt disappointed that she wasn't. "Thank you" his response was simple, but it expressed so many of the thoughts swirling through his mind "That means a lot to me, and I really do hope that we can stay friends despite all that has happened" he didn't pull away from her touch, remaining there with her paw cusping his chin

Good. Her response seemed to comfort him a bit. It was all she could do. Weed really did want to see him happy, even if it wasn’t with her. It would be best for now if she continued convincing herself that her feelings would dissipate. She could only hope that it would be soon. “You don’t have to thank me.” Weed said softly, dropping her paw from his chin. “I wanted to be able to ease your mind. I’m glad I was able to do something towards that extent.” She offered him a small smile. Friends... she would love that. But the thought of being friends made her chest ache fully. She wasn’t sure she was ready to move on that quickly, but she had to. She couldn’t linger on such feelings. “Oh yes, that would be splendid of course.” She had said instead. As selfish as it may have seemed, Weed still wanted to be a part of his life. But friendship...? No. She could be okay with that. For himself and for Pollendrone, she could be okay with friendship.

Lionpride dipped his head head, happy that she had agreed. He couldn't quite let go of her, but he also had to think about Pollendrone and their growing family "I'm glad that we got to talk" he admitted, his mood seeming to have shifted to something much more light and playful than before "Pollendrone and I were really worried about you. She cares about you a lot..." he paused "she knows how I feel about you, I told her everything... She thinks of you as a good friend to" He felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off his chest after being able to confess to both of them. He hated holding onto secrets, and he was gald that things were out in the open now.

Weed smiled softly. "She's absolutely wonderful. You're quite lucky." She said with a soft tease. "I wish there was more I could have done for you both while you were in prison. I would have brought something down for you both to eat but with the prey shortage, I feared that someone would have noticed. I'm glad things could be out in the open... I didn't want to tell her when I was visiting her in the prison... I didn't want to put her into a position like that, I couldn't... I am still sorry about stumbling upon the two of you, but truly I'm alright. I'm glad we could talk about this." She curled her tail around herself once more as she settled down against her nest, scrap moss from what she had gathered for the queens and for Bloodystar as Mountain had been insistent on having her help him fluff the high priest's nest up. "I... well I heard about your sister, Jetfire... I am terribly sorry, Lionpride. How is she? Is she alright?"

He shook his head "No..." but how could he say more without revealing her secret? She hadn't confessed, but she didn't have to. He could see the way she looked at Bloodystar with fear in her eyes, how just the sound of his voice made her flinch. It was subtle, but after his own experiences with the cruel High Priest, he could only imagine what she had been put through "Shes not doing well... but she is alive and for that I thank the Sun God" he wanted to do more to help her, but his own paws were tied with Pollendrone pregnant with his children "The kits are not doing well either, he said that it was because of the poison they had been given"

"Oh, Lionpride..." She said softly. Weed knew how much his family meant to him. Her heart broke for him. They had all suffered so much under Bloodystar's rule. And for what? All because they were the children of Littlestar. "Thank the Sun God for that..." She said softly, bowing her head in a quick prayer as she prayed for the health and safety of Jetfire and her kits. "If there is anything I can do to help them, I will. I know the circumstances aren't the best right now... but I'm sure there's something that can be done."

He nodded, grateful for her support. It mean more than he could really express in words "I think she just needs a friend..." he could still see the look of lonliness and horror in her gaze. Like a cornered animal with no where left to turn. Lionpride had only thought his own situation was bad... but seeing her... He had a creeping feeling that she had been through even worse "She couldn't even talk to me. Everytime she tried Bloodystar butted in and spoke for her" his claws dug into the ground

Without thinking, Weed quickly placed her paw over his when she saw the glint of his claws. "I'm sure she would have if she could, Lionpride." She said quickly. "Jetfire was just... tired, more than anything. I'm sure she'll be back to herself in no time. She just needs a bit more rest than other queens." The initiate cleared her throat and quickly pulled her paw back, curling her tail tightly around her legs as if to keep them in their place. "What she needs now are the people who truly love her by her side. You, your siblings. All of them. To show her the light in these dark times. Who better to do that than her family?"

Lionpride could imagine his claws tearing into Bloodystar, but the gentle touch of weed jerked him out of his thoughts and back into the moment. He caught himself wanting to lean into, but instead he pulled his paw away and rose to his, his ears burning. His mate was Pollendrone, and he couldn't let himself get to close to weed 'You are right... I think I'll go pay her a visit"

"Yes, right of course." Weed said, clearing her throat as she rose to her paws. Her tail swayed gently behind her as she gave her pelt a careful shake. It had lost a bit of its shine and seemed more tattered and dirty. She had once prided herself on the presentation of her coat, but after having been demoted and the sudden prey shortage she hadn't had the energy to keep it presentable. "Please, do give her my best. And tell her if she ever needs anything that all she needs to do is send for me." The mottled tortoiseshell said as she carefully made her way around Lionpride. She made sure not to get too close, having learned to keep to the walls in order to get past Mountain. "I should be going as well... duties and all"
