Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was a lovely day for Leaf-Fall, Ratstar mused to himself as he padded his way through the Deep Lands back to Summerclan camp. The sky was blue and bright, speckled with fluffy white clouds the rolled across the horizon. Slightly lower above the Leader's head, branches of leaves, painted in yellow, red, and light green, shook and crackled in the light breeze. Upon entering the clearing that made up the camp, the brown tabby tom turned towards the hollowed tree trunk that made up the clan's Nursery, pushing past the lichen and moss curtain that covered its entrance. "Knock knock," he purred, setting down a mouthful of rabbit down on the grass. "Ya home, darlin'?"
As luck would have it, the second time Poppymask found herself pregnant had started much same as the first, at least as far as living arrangements went. She was the only queen in the nursery so the place was hers to control. Iit was heavily decorated with all kinds of flowers and leaves, pretty gems and rocks, it was just as glamorous and gaudy as anyone who knew Poppy would expect it to be. You'd think that would make her happy. Except, somehow, she still was not.
The first time she has been pregnant she'd been a surrogate in DayClan. They had treated her like a Queen, but SummerClan just treated her like a queen. So she had to do things like... clean up her own messes... go get herself her own food... unreasonable! As soon as she laid eyes on Ratstar she was on her paws and in his face, bondi blue eyes wide and just a little watery for good measure.
"Dear, it's so dreadful! No one prepared me the cinnamon apple mice that I asked for and my nest needs cleaned out but the apprentices all conveniently are busy when I ask them to help out. You gotta do something," She felt something warm and fuzzy on her paws and, looking down, realized she'd trampled all over the rabbit Ratstar had brought her, "OH MY GOSH is this for me!? It's still warm! You caught this? I love it!"
Ratstar was quietly listening to his mate rant with fondness sparkling in his single yellow-green eye as he watched her. Even at her brattiest, Poppymask was so amusing and beautiful in her own special way. The Nursery both looked and smelled better than it had ever been, and though he felt a little bad that he couldn't cater to her in the way that Dayclan did, he was glad that she still wholeheartedly appreciated what he did do for her, as she did when she finally noticed that rabbit he had caught special for the she-cat. "Ya like it, darlin'?" the leader meowed proudly, knowing full-well that she obviously loved it. "It was the biggest and fluffiest I could find. Thought we could use the fur t' line ya nest, make it nice n' comfy."
A couple tufts of fur had already fallen out onto the ground, and the tabby tom picked them up and set it on Poppymask's moss and grass-weaved nest; surprisingly enough, the tan color of the fluff matched well with the flowers the Garden keeper had used to surround it. "Don' be too hard on the Apprentices, though." He added off-handedly. "There's only four o' 'em right now, they've got their paws more than full. When it gets closer to your kitting, I'll have 'em spend some more time helpin' 'round the Nursery."
A purr rumbled deep in Poppymask's chest as she watched Ratstar work tufts of fur out of the rabbit to line her nest. Rabbit down was a highly sought after nest-liner and a personal favorite of hers, it would be the perfect space to welcome in the next generation of SummerClan cats. Poppymask's pelt brushed up alongside her mate's as she began to join in the fur removal, her paws working with expert precision, for all the fuss she made on a daily basis she really was good for a thing or two.
"Awww, you shouldn't have!" She purred, which was absolutely a lie, if she could she would have Ratstar wait on her hand-and-foot but, alas, he was a leader and could not, "But really, it doesn't take much for an apprentice to come help me move around the flowers, or bring me something to eat, or change out my bedding, or..." She listed a few more things, "... you know? I'm not asking for the world here, just the necessities! But I guess if you keep bringing me treats like this, I may just be OK..."
"Uh huh," Ratstar replied incredulously to Poppymask's increasingly ever-growing list of things that 'totally wouldn't take that much time' that she 'absolutely positively' needed for her pregnancy. Smoothing out the rabbit down in the nest with his paw, he side-eyed his mate from the corner of his vision, smirking playfully. "I'll see what I can do 'bout the nice prey, how 'bout that? Though, ya realize in ma youth I've seen she-cats give birth in piles o' garbage, right? If I didn't know better, I'd be thinkin' you're just lookin' fer an excuse t' be pampered again..." Before she could answer, the Summerclan leader suddenly leaned over to give Poppymask a lick on the forehead. "But I know you're not. An absolute doll like you deserves t' be spoiled rotten."
"I only ask for what I need, darling," Poppymask purred, she'd finished her work with the rabbit fluff and had made a bit of a mess of it, little tufts of downy white fur covered her forearms and somehow even made their way onto her mane and face. She had always looked young for her age and this made her appear even younger yet, "I just so happen to need a lot of pampering... you wouldn't have me raise our dear sweet babies in a trash can, would you? They are practically little princes and princesses, they deserve everything we can given them and then some, they are the future of SummerClan after all!"
Poppymask rubbed her face against Ratstar's shoulder, contaminating him with some of the rabbit fluff, too, "Speaking of... Rumor has it Thunderstorm is going to join the nursery here soon. Please don't make her share my den with her!"
