Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
A petite shadow stumbled through the forest. Her dark fur blended in the night, but the moonlight reflected off of the pentagram necklace hanging around the cat's neck.
She was hungry. It had been two days since she had left her home in the city. Food was not the first thing on her mind, however. It was her best friend. Olivia.
She was cold. Her tiny paws created prints in the snow. Her onyx colored pelt became wet.
She was sad. It should almost be time for Yule. I can't imagine spending it without her. She thought.
She was scared. She had wandered into unknown territory, deep into the forest. She traveled to parts that she had never explored with Olivia.
She was hopeful. She stopped in her tracks, closed her emerald eyes, and said a prayer. "Goddess, I am seeking your wisdom and guidance. I realize this is a trial I must endure, but I will not survive if I do not find shelter. Please show me the path to comfort, and please keep Olivia safe. Blessed be."
She opened her eyes and looked towards the sky in hopes of a sign.
Sometimes the best cure for a busy mind, was a simple stroll in the moonlight. At least that is what Littlebird had come to realize over the past few moons. Her young kits were warm and snug with their aunt Jetclaw, and she had taken this rare oppurtunity to escape the confines of camp for a little while. He kitting had been a difficult one, leaving her on bed rest until recently. She had not yet fully recovered, but each day her strength was growing.
Her long silver fur fluttered around her in the crisp air, the snow reminding her of her former home. She couldn't help but think of her father and mother, as she remembered the three of them playing in the snow. Wrapped up in her memories, she almost mistook the small black she-cat in the distance as a mirage. A lingering image from her past, come to haunt her. However, the gleam of the silver around her neck, brought he back to reality. This wasn't some long lost memory, but an intruder.
She was in no condition for a full on fight, yet she could not allow a trespasser to walk upon sacred SunClan lands. She strode forward, her glimmering golden eyes the same shade as the moon above.
"You best make your next step wisely" she warned, emerging from the shadows she had hidden herself in. "You are about to enter into sacred grounds, the consequences of which are quite harsh"
Her focus shifted from the night sky to the queen standing in front of her. Her emerald eyes grew wide as she took a step back. This was the first time she had seen another cat. The only company she had for two years was her human, Olivia.
Her body began to shiver. It might have been the temperature, lack of food, or fear. It was most likely the combination of the three.
It took the she-cat a few moments to communicate. "Merry meet. I have no intention to disturb any sacred area, miss. I was unaware I was entering private territory. I do not have any knowledge of my location, so I must apologize for the intrusion. My name is Clover. I am far away from home."
"I see..." she replied as she carefully observed the cat before her. The black cat before her was also small in stature, and judging by the way she was shivering would soon be hypothermic should nothing be done. Her thin coat trapping in the cold moisture against her skin. Judging by her odd manner of speech and the strange two-leg object around her neck, she was most likely a kittypet who had strayed to far from home.
"While I can not allow you to enter into our territory, there is a small two-leg shelter near by that you may escape the storm in" unlike many other clan, most SunClan cats had ventured out past their boarders, and Littlebird was no exception. "Come with me, and let us see if we can get you warmed up" She let her long tail gently touch the other cat on the shoulder as she began to lead the way to where a rickety shed had been abandonded. A hole near the door allowed the small she-cat to easily enter as she leapt up upon some straw. "Rest here, and I will get you some medicine and food little one..."
"A two-leg is a rather strange creature. The walk upon two legs and only have fur upon their heads. For the most part, they leave us be. However, it is best to avoid them" she warned as she moved to the door to retrieve supplies to help the little she-cat "but don't worry, they left this place long ago. You will be safe here. While I am away begin grooming your fur, but go against the way your fur lies. It will help remove the water away from your skin, and warm you" She pushed through the small opening, leaving only snow flakes in her wake.
Perhaps she should had simply left the she-cat to her felt, but she felt sorry for the little creature. It seemed like she knew little about how to survive out here, and it was also an oppurtunity. Perhaps after hearing about their clan, it would be her wish to become an initiate.
After a few minutes, Littlebird returned. Clasped within her jaws was a small mouse and colver's root. It should help her not get sick from the cold. She laid the mouse down at her paws and sat down a small piece of the root for her to chew. "Go ahead and get something warm in your belly, and then chew on this root. It should help prevent you from catching any sort of cold"
As the foreign cat left, Clover pondered over her description of a "two-leg" as she groomed her fur. The queen was obviously talking about a human. She couldn't help but be reminded of Olivia. She couldn't imagine ever avoiding the girl who saved her life, gave her a home, and taught her the ways of the Witch. Clover flinched as an image of her best friend's cold, lifeless body appeared in her head. She wrapped her pentagram necklace around her paw and closed her eyes, trying to imagine the scent of Olivia's perfume. That scent always comforted her.
Clover's eyes widened as her nostrils soon filled with an even more pleasant scent: blood. Her mouth watered. She had only consumed mice once before. Long ago, Olivia's apartment had an infestation. Clover was able to eradicate them, and was rewarded with the best meals she had ever had.
Although Clover wanted to immediately sink her teeth into her meal, she remembered to give thanks. "Goddess, watch over me, and bless me as I eat. Bless this mouse, this bounty of earth, I thank you for its sacrifice, so mote it be."
She dug her fangs into the freshly-killed mouse, and her belly became warm with its flesh. Within seconds, nothing remained. Only a small puddle of blood.
She pawed at the root, which looked like a material Olivia used in Alchemy. She began to nibble on it as she looked up at the cat who had graciously helped her in her time of need.
"My apologizes, I must seem rather rude. I didn't ask for your name. Who do I thank for this act of kindness?"
She couldn't help but smile slightly as the she-cat said her prayers before eating. It was a common practice in SunClan as well, although she seemed to be worshiping another deity. "My name is Littlebird. I am the priestess promised of SunClan"
Sure the cat before her was strange, but she tried to hold no judgements. She knew that she must seem strange to her, and she had once been a stranger in these lands. "Who is it that you pray to?" she questioned with a little smile.
"In my clan, we to worship a god. He is the Sun God, the embodiment of warmth and fire.He sits fair judgement over all things.
Clover's emerald eyes widened. "Priestess? Blessed be, Littlebird! I assume Clan is your term for a Coven? I pray to many Gods and Goddesses who are all one in the same. I also worship a Sun God. His name is Ra and derives from Egyptian culture. The Goddess has many names and many forms which fall under three main identities: The Mother, The Maiden, and The Crone. She is the mother of all things and keeps us safe along with The God, who created this world. They both have many names, and their souls are not singular like ours. They are infinite." It was a relief to see that this wild cat was somewhat familiar with deities and worship.
"Coven?" she questioned softly. She had never heard the term. "A clan is a large group of cats that all live together under the leadership of the Priestess. Her word is law, and I am currently studdying to follow in her footsteps. When she passes away, I shall become the next Priestess"
It seemed odd to her that a cat would worship more than one God, but no more odd than some of the other religions in the clans she supposed "There is only one true God, although he does war with with the vile pretender that MoonClan worships. The Sun God is fair and merciful. He took me in, and protected me from all those who wished to see me dead. All he asks in return is that we follow his code, and worship his name" She had to be vague about what she was saying, for it was forbidden to share much with outsiders. All that she had said thus far was common knowledge among the clans. Everyone knew that they worshipped the Sun God and that they had their own code.
Clover nodded her head in approval. Although their beliefs differed, Olivia taught her to love and accept anyone she may come across. "We may worship different Gods, but we are all brothers and sisters in this life. I trust you will lead your Clan with great compassion like you have shown me. What code do you follow under His name, if you don't mind my asking? I am intrigued with your way of life. How does your Clan opperate?"
"Unfortunatley, there is much that I am unable to share with you, unless you seek to join us. All cats born into SunClan are brought up in our ways, but outsiders that seek to become members are allowed to join as initiates. As an initiate you would study our culture, religion, and ways. Once you are deemed ready, you must face a final trial of the heart in order to be welcomed within our tanks" what she didn't say is that once you became an initiate there was no way out. You either became a full fledged member, or died should the Sun God deem you unworthy.
No one spoke of the consequences of failing the initiation. Not only was it forbidden, but it would cause less cats to seek out the enlightenment that knowing the Sun God brought.
"Our clan is like a large family. We all share our devotion to the Sun God, but we also ensure that all of our members are well cared for. We are the Sun God's chosen ones."
While the she-cat was interested in the ways of the Clan, she could not bring herself to join the ranks of others. Not yet.
"Your proposal is flattering, Littlebird; however, it is too soon. I cannot fathom belonging to a group of others at the current moment. I am still in mourning over my dear Olivia." Her head dropped as images of Olivia's gentle face raced through her mind.
"I see" she replied. She understood, after all she had only joined SunClan because she had no where else to go. On her own she would have been assassinated, and no other clan would have protected her from the full might of WInterClan.
"Olivia must have meant a lot to you. Tell me about her" she replied, trying not to make assumptions. She originally thought that perhaps this Olivia had been a sister, or maybe even a close friend. Instead of voicing her thoughts, she decided to listen. You could learn a lot about simply listening to the stories of others.
Littlebird settled down into the straw, her own energy drained from the excursion.
The shadow colored she-cat bowed her head and let out a sigh.
"Many years ago, I was abandoned by my mother. I cannot recall her scent or appearance. I was not yet old enough to walk. I had just opened my eyes for the first time. Why a mother would abandon a life that was so graciously gifted to her to love and protect is a reason I have yet to discover. It was raining that night. The streets were empty, but they began to flood with the water from the rainfall. I would have died if a human-" Clover stopped briefly to remember the term that Littlebird had used. "-twoleg had not found me. I was picked up from the sidewalk and placed into the arms of the most pleasant girl I could ever dream of. Her hair was the color of the night sky. She was wearing a dark dress and boots. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. 'Oh, no. How could someone leave you out here?' she said, kissing me on the forehead. She held me tight as she said a prayer to the Goddess. She was wearing a silver Pentagram pendant around her neck that she removed and placed around mine. It is the same pendant I am wearing now." Clover paused as she pawed at the silver object.
"'My name is Olivia, and I'm going to take care of you.' She said. She brought me into her apartment, which was filled with herbs, candles, and many metaphysical objects. Olivia taught me the way of the Witch. She told me cats are blessed with the magical power of healing. She taught me love, compassion, and to never harm another. She taught me alchemy, and all of mother nature's herbs, crystals, and their uses. We became so close, I was eventually able to communicate with her. I became her familiar, and we were bound by Bast, the Goddess of the feline. When Olivia arrived home from work, we would practice spells and blessings. We would venture out into the forest and communicate with nature. I would sleep by her side each night."
"Olivia was my best friend for three years. One day, she stopped leaving her apartment. We stopped going to the woods. She would cry, and tell me how sorry she was, although, I did not know what for. She stopped taking care of herself, so I took it upon myself to care for her to the best of my abilities, but nothing I did seemed to get her back to normal. I missed seeing her smile. A month later, she held me in her arms and told me that she loved me. She opened a window and headed to the bathroom. I became worried when she didn't return. I decided to investigate to find her asleep in the bathtub. The water had turned red, and the room reeked of fresh blood. I did my best to awaken her. I slept on top of her chest and guarded her body. I only left occasionally to eat. I prayed to the Goddess that she would come back to life, but she never did. After four months, she began to decompose. I realized I would never see her full of life ever again. I kissed her goodbye, and then I left. I decided to venture and explore deep into the forest we once called our second home."
The she-cat curled up and shed a tear, wishing that she could relive the good days that Olivia blessed her with. "I pray to the Goddess every day that she remains safe, wherever her soul may lie."
While she didn't understand what it was like to live with a twoleg, she did understand lost... After all not long ago she to had lost everything that had mattered to her, and had been forced to leave it all behind to start her new life in SunClan "Only time can heal wounds caused by loss" her voice trailed off as she began to think about her own past.
"I have never had any sort of relationship with a twoleg, but I to have lost those that I cared for.. I wasn't always a member of SunClan. Before coming to my new home, I belonged to WinterClan. The clan of the mountains, the clan of snow. My father was the leader and my mother was his second in command. The two of them never truely loved each other, but were together because of clan politics. After I was born, the rift between them only grew until it ended in them taking each other's life. In the chaos, a tom from another clan swooped in to take control of WinterClan. He murdered mu brother in cold blood, and would have killed me to. It was only due to the swift actions of one of my father's followers that I was able to escape and seek protection from SUnClan. I had to leave behind what was left of my family, my friends, my clan..."
