Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was a surprise to come face to face with Deal. Lex remembered the tom from his execution at the paws of Foxstar, a day the tom probably wasn't too fond of. For Lex, however, this was the first time he noticed the Sentinel scars, or at least he presumed they were Sentinel scars based upon the location and look of them.
"What are you doing here?" Lex tilted his head, not hostile, more curious. Then again, Lex was a Scout, and he wasn't too concerned about Deal causing problems. Perhaps because the thing the tom was really known for was being hated by Vixenkismet and having far too many kits. Not exactly a terrifying legacy, except for the world's genetics.
After spending the better part of his time up until now searching for someone that apparently wasn’t in the tunnels today, Deal was feeling a little frustrated. It was a stupid idea to try and seek Sean out, he had never been able to locate the tom of his own, but he didn’t expect it to be this impossible when he started. Now he knew the reason Sean was always the one to find him, though. That knowledge was a bitter prize.
As he rounded the corner he nearly brushed past the scout passing him until he heard something off in the tom’s tone, and it gave him pause. That wasn’t a warning for an outsider, but he wasn’t warm as if he mistook Deal for a clanmate or old ally either. Deal pulled back and scrutinized him closer with dark green eyes, and finally he recognized him. Deal hasn’t formally met Darkcomplex, not that he could remember, but he had seen him around a few times.
“Meeting someone. What are you doing way down here?”
Lex chuckled slightly. He supposed he did look out of place. A large tom with thick silver tabby fur, a thick white mane, and eyes that were just different enough in color to be called mismatched. Lex looked more a WinterClan cat than he did Regime, though he had fit slightly better with SunClan only for the fact he wasn't too unlike Littlestar in coloring. He was surprised Deal recognized him at all, and he tilted his head. "You'd think I'd smell enough of the tunnels by now to not be associated with SunClan anymore." He commented. Indeed, he didn't smell the slightest bit like his old clan anymore, and his fur almost shimmered slightly in the darkness like others in the Regime. "Doesn't seem like you're having much luck in finding whoever is it. Perhaps you should have waited at the border instead of wandering around? Much easier to simply ask." He smiled slightly, relatively cordial for the time being.
"These tunnels are large enough he could be here and you wouldn't even know it," he replied dismissively, still staring at him like he was seeing a rather peculiar ghost. "It would take too much time to sit and wait for someone to come, anyway. Don't you hate me?"
It was a blunt question, he had really intended to say it at all, but he couldn't shake the thought. Lex had fallen in love with his mate, Deal should have been furious with him, but he couldn't be. A lot had been happening between him and Glowstar at the time, more had happened since, and he had come to an understanding of sorts with her. They were friends again; they were better as friends than they had been mates. But he had been her distant mate when Lex had fallen for her, and that must have upset him, to know that she was taken by someone like Deal. Hadn't he ruined any chances they had together?
"Fair point. Though you're lucky it's not someone overzealous like Havilah who found you. Else you might have a fight on your paws." Lex mused, pausing to look at Deal with confusion at the suggestion he should hate him. Yes, the Scout had fallen for Glowstar when they'd been forced together. But he'd always known Deal came first. "Why?" He asked honestly.
"What is the point in hating you? You've done nothing to me, and I doubt loving someone you had claim to first counts, if you're referring to Glowstar." Clear as day, he could still remember, not ten seconds after Foxstar had declared Lex and Strik mates, she told him her heart belonged to Deal. Not like he hadn't known the entire time. If anything, it was Fox he should be angry with, for forcing them together, letting him fall for her, and then ripping the DayClan leader away for herself.
Deal's ear twitched. He was capable of talking his way out of fights, or at least he used to be, as long as the other cat didn't have a personal vendetta against him. Maybe he wasn't as charming as he once was, but in case he fancied his knowledge of the tunnels would be enough to help him escape. To be sure, these weren't the tunnels he had been a Sentinel within, but he remembered the basic tricks of navigating underground.
"Because I was with Glowstar, you never had a chance," he reminded Lex. "Now that we're separated, it's too late for you still, and she's moved on. But if I had never been in the way, maybe you two would be mates right now. I robbed you of that." Deal wasn't sure why he was trying to convince this cat to hate him. Maybe too many cats had been too kind to him lately, and he was getting suspicious of it. "I usually find there's no point in hating me, but that doesn't stop most," he added as an afterthought.
"You robbed me of nothing. I may not have Glowstar, but I have my kits, even if only Bluejay is mine by blood. If she had loved me, there was ample opportunity to act on it. She didn't. It's her life, and she makes her own choices." Lex shrugged. He still loved Glowstar, yes. But if she was happy, he would be there for her and not interfere in her love life. "Do you really mean most, or do you mean Foxbane and those she's manipulated? Because those are two very different things."
Deal had his kits too. He even had a few good ones, but he wasn't convinced he would ever settle for children over a good mate.
"I suppose I mean Foxbane," he allowed. "There were others, certainly, but they couldn't do much more than hiss at me when I walked by. Not every cat is as violent in their hatred as she was." Their words stung, but they didn't have the lasting impact her actions did. In some twisted way, his ex-mate had made the other losses easier to bear.
Then Deal shook his head and took a step back. "I'm not here to talk to you about my love life," he said firmly. "Now are you going to drive me out of here, or what's your play here? Are you stalling while reinforcements arrive?"
"You're the one who brought it up." Lex shrugged, flashing a smile as Deal took a step back. "If I was going to drive you out, I think I'd have done it by now without the conversation. You were a Sentinel once, if those scars mean anything, so unless you have some huge backstory to tell me about how you're a renowned enemy of the Regime, I think I won't get yelled at too much for letting you hang around." He mused, tapping a paw lightly against his mouth.
