The low rumble of an approaching storm woke the little dark furred kit up from her current spot under a thick juniper bush. A cool early autumn breeze swept under the boughs of the bush and chilled the little kit. Her fur was dirty and matted. The only thing that really looked healthy about her was her eyes. The autumn forest from above shown through them. She shivered and curled up tighter as another breeze shook the leaves above her and more thunder growled in the distance. She sniffled slightly. This would be the first storm she would have to face alone. She remembered her mother curling around her to keep her warm as she sung a soft lullaby to lull her to sleep so the thunder wouldn't scare her. She remembered her father's rough tongue on her forehead just before she would fall asleep.
There was none of that now. Just loneliness and hunger and darkness. The evening was ending with a dark storm approaching. The sun was headingg toward the horizon. But she wouldn't be able to travel tonight in the storm. She would have to wait it out.
Kismet closed her eyes tight and tried to sing the lullaby her mother sang to her. Her little voice trembling as more thunder shook the earth.
Strawberrymilk was furious to have been caught out in this storm. Seeking the nearest shelter, she came upon a small cave-den-like area. For the first time in a long time she was grateful for her smaller size and squeezed into the space just as another rumble of thunder sounded above. She was surprised to find another there already, and it wa so my thanks to the flash of lightening that she was able to make out that it was a kit. The scent of them was merely that of damp fur and leaves.
Sorry planned today have replied to this at work and then got busy.

Fallpaw had been out hunting on her own, when Sprout began to bristle. At first she thought it was because of the the brewing storm, so she pulled herself underneath the roots of a tree. But Sprout wouldn't stop squirming in her grasp, insisting that she keep going. Finally she let go, scrambling after Sprout as her ferret darted into a den just as the rain began to fall leaving Fallpaw soaked as she entered "Strawberrymilk?" she looked between the she-cat and the kit "You had a kit?"

Kismet said nothing as her eyes widened in fear. These were forest cats! Would they kill her like Da had said in his stories? She gave her best growl but it came out more like a fearful groan as she scrambled back as far as she could get. Her dark fur bristling. "Stay back you......you...you forest cats!" She forgot what her Da had called them. They didn't seem all that threatening but one could never be too sure with forest cats!
"Of course I didn't have a kit, you crazy!" The mere thought that she, a cat of noble lineage, would have a kit out of matehood to a love tom was an absurd idea! I mean really, Strawberrymilk? Have a kit and it's not her mates? Did they think she was that crazy? No, bother. She'd make sure Fallpaw, and any who hear about this moment, know she has no kits of her own. Her gazed turned, unimpressed, to the shivering kit behind her. "Oh, hush you. No point getting all worked up when the three of us are stuck here till the storm passes. Strawberrymilk, if you didn't catch the name. Now, what's a little one like you doing here? Out of camp at that?" The she-cat didn't realize, as she was never in the nursery thank you very much, that this kit wasn't DayClan born.

"What's a camp?" Kismet furrowed her brow. Her hackles lowered a little. "Da said forest cats live in groups...is that what your group is called? Camp?" She tilted her head in confusion as she spoke. She had a strange accent in her voice. Faint but there. Something she picked up from Ma and Da. She was still pressed firmly into the back of the cave but she was no longer a small puff of black and brown, and the silvery tipped fur on her cheeks and chest was now more visible as well.

"Are you sure? She looks a lot like you" Fallpaw teased, sprout dancing at her paws. Seeing the kit the ferret rushed over chattering and sniffing at the kit's pelt "Camp is where we live, our group is called DayClan" she answered gently. Normally Fallpaw could be pretty prickly, but it was clear this kit was lost and scared out of her mind so she was trying to be nice

"What is this creature?" Kismet asked as the ferret sniffed her. "Why is it sretched out like that?" She looked quizzically at the ferrets long body. She had never seen such an animal. She looked back at the cat who had answered her first question. "DayClan? That's your group? Are there other ones? Da said there were many groups. All different." She unglued herself from the wall of the cave. Feeling a little more at ease that neither cat had threatened her yet...or killed her.
Strawberrymilk bristled at the idea that this poor little one was so miss informed. To have no idea who DayClan is or a ferret, though personally she doesn't blame the kit for not knowing a ferret from a rat considering Strawberrymilk wasn't a fan of either. "Well, that' sa ferret and yes there are other groups." About this time another strike of lightning lite up the small den, exposing the faces of the cats, and ferret, inside it. "Closest to us are SunClan, NightClan, and MoonClan. Then of course there's SummerClan, SpringClan, FallClan, WinterClan, Primal Instinct….." She trailed off, glancing at the kit to see if she was following along, or as Strawberrymilk suspected, lost to what she was being told.

Fallpaw nodded "Yes her name is Sprout. I'm an animal whisper... I help out DayClan by working with the ferrets to help bring in more food for the clan. I raised her from a pup" Sprout squeaked, returning back to Fallpaw's paws and curling up into a ball, eyes still on the kit with curiosity. "She won't hurt you unless she thinks you are trying to hurt me" she added, trying to make the young cat feel a little more comfortable "She likes playing with the kits back in DayClan" even though it scared Glowstar half to death to have Sprout any where near the young cats

Kismet gazed at Strawberrymilk as she spoke about the other clans and then back to Fallpaw and the ferret. "Interestin little thing." She tilted her head. "Da said the forest cats were wild... bloodthirsty.....said they'd kill me quick as lightnin in a storm jus' for stepping on their land...but you haven't killed me.." she tilted her head the other way. "Ma and Da....they left me in the night days ago now...I don't know why." She looked at her paws as her eyes watered a bit.
"Bloodthirsty!" At first Strawberrymilk was outraged to be called that, but then, thinking for a a moment, she couldn't blame the cats for thinking that way. There were ones out there like Omega who actually ate cats. "....Well, some of them are. Take heed who you choose to speak to, little one." Then, she worried about clans like SunClan, "best stay away from areas where there's a heavy scent of cats in general. Some clans are a little more dangerous than others. SO if you ever learn where SunClan is, never go there." The question about her parents and their locations was concerning, but better to prepare the kit for them to not come back by giving her advice, then to hear she'd become a dead orphan somewhere. Better to be a living orphan, than a dead one.

Kismet tilted her head at first then nodded. "Aye. I'll try to remember that one then!" She said. She was rather glad these cats were not foes. She was tired and hungry and much smaller than them so it wouldn't do to have to run for her life. Her stomach chose then to announce itself and she sunk back a bit embarrassed.
