Every time she moved she moved in darkness. She had found it was cooler then. In a strange early autumn heat wave her long fluffy fur was proving to be quite the burden. Plus I. The night she was blended in. Like a tiny shadow. Her dark pelt was a blessing then. The little kit kept to the undergrowth as she traveled. She hadn't been brave enough to venture this far into the forest until now. Something beckoning her inside, a call, a siren song of sorts. She paid no mind to scents. She was trying to move not sniff things.
Things had not been good since she woke up in the middle of the night a few days ago. Her parents had been arguing. Something about what had happened that day. Something bad. They called her an "omen". She didn't know if that was good or bad at the time but she supposed bad since she woke up the next morning and they were gone. Now she was alone because she couldn't find them anywhere. None of their usual spots like the butcher's back window or the the fishermen's dock house, or even the small pond at the park. Nothing. No signs of them. She had of course cried. Called out for them for hours it seemed. But to no avail. She was alone...
