Peakgaze lounged on his back, at an odd but comfortable angle, enjoying the sun's light. Midday had just passed and the tom was full from his meal. Enjoying the sun's light and taking a nap after lunch had been his plan, that is until someone too a seat next to him, spoiling his fun. Squinting against the sunlight, he turned his head to see who'd taken a seat near him just outside the elders den. "Hello."

"Hi, Peakgaze," Bonefang meowed. "We better enjoy this sunshine now because Leafbare will be coming around again soon." He stretched out next to his denmate and yawned. Inwardly he felt guilty for enjoying this respite. His mind wandered to his brave clanmates who were now on their way to battle with Primal Instinct.
"Doesn't it always. How I wish it wouldn't." He'd spent the first parts of his life in WInterClan, so really he should be used to the cold. But now with aching joints, he wasn't so much of a fan of it anymore. He rolled over, clearly his intended peace was interrupted. "Say, Bonefang, how have things been for you? Any thing interesting going on in that family of yours?"
"Ha, Boney, I'm glad you got asked that question instead of me," Sekhmet was sprawled out on the ground next to the brown-tabby tom. Being Vulcan's oldest daughter - and Phoenixstar's littermate - it was no secret that she came from the very top of one of the oldest and largest families of the forest. It was impossible to keep up with all of them even though she did make the effort, "Do tell."

Bonefang greeted Sekhmet with a welcoming nod and smile although cringing inwardly at the name, Boney. "Well, there's nothing much going on that's not common knowledge within the camp," he began. "I do wish that granddaughter of mine, Pantherclaw, will settle down and take a mate soon. She's been a warrior for a year already. I gave up hoping for grandkits from Dustfeather though. He's become too gruff and wild to be an attractive mate for any she cat." Bonefang sent up a silent prayer to StarClan just then for his warlike son who was one of the first to volunteer to be on the battle patrol headed for Primal Instinct.
"It's never too late for kits. I wouldn't give up hope just yet," Sekhmet chuckled, rolling onto her back. The cool ground felt good against her thick golden pelt. At least one elder was excited for leaf-bare, "I have four little brothers younger than even Mudthistle's lot, you know."
Her father was dead but still managed to create life. With a demon-cat? It was complicated, but if she let stuff like that bother her then she wouldn't have lived this long. She rubbed her head against Bonefang's shoulder, "I know you're worried about him, but I'm sure he will be fine. He's strong like his dad."
"Reckless at that, but the reckless do tend to survive longer. How I have no idea." Peakgaze rolled his eyes at the thought, though he couldn't say he hadn't been reckless in his day. With a teasing grin, he turned his gaze once more towards Bonefang. "You could always set the girl up. Pick a nice mate out for Pantherclaw. Hear that's what's happening in a few of the clans now. Pairings, arranged by other people. Quite interesting if you ask me. Could you have imagined that in our day?"
"I wouldn't write Dustfeather off quite just yet, Bonefang. I hear that young kittypet who joined a few moons back has been following him around like a lost duckling lately~" Littlecrest's sing-song voice accompanied the pretty she-cat as she joined her fellow Elders in the warm sunlight, taking a seat beside where Sekhmet was sprawling out in the grass. The black and white tuxedo had been comfortable remaining in the shade of the Elder's den, but the notoriously clingy elder couldn't help but join in on a bit of good gossip. Hearing Peakgaze's suggestion of arranged pairings, she let out an unconvinced snort. "Oh, please. Do cats seriously think that's actually going to work? If leaders want more kits in their clan, I would think mating rules would be made less restrictive, not more."
"Littlecrest has a point, it seems to work very well to our dear Poppymask," Sekhmet snickered, Poppymask's infidelity was so well known that it was hardly even worth the gossip, but she judged that if ever there were a time to bring it up it was now, "Ratstar's leniency in that aspect seems to be doing the trick if his goal is more kits. I wonder what would happen if all of SummerClan were allowed such freedom. Maybe we'd even grow as big as SunClan!"
"Ughhh, please don't remind me about that little beebrain being pregnant," Littlecrest groaned, dramatically flopping over onto the grass on her side, facing the other Elders. "The last thing Summerclan needs is her shrill little voice multiplied everywhere. How she managed to end up with our leader might be even beyond Starclan's understanding; they seem almost entirely incompatible, yet by some miracle or curse he's completely smitten with her."
"Love is blind," Bonefang meowed the age old saying. "Ratstar probably can't see her many faults. As for other clans arranging marriages, if that's what they want, let 'em. But for me, I will always adhere to letting cats choose their own mates." He looked around the partially empty camp at the different cats who were going about their business. "And about that young kittypet, I heard Dustfeather scared her off with his harsh words. She's probably keeping an eye on him just to keep out of his way." The thought occurred to him right then about what he had just said concerning Ratstar. Perhaps this former kittypet is following Dustfeather because she's blind to his faults. "What's her name again?" he asked. It was getting harder and harder for him to remember new names.
"Even if you disapprove of said mate there Bonefang?" Peakgaze like to stir up trouble, it was practically in his name to do so. Probably because of all the trouble he caused as a warrior back in WinterClan. Oh well, here he was in SummerClan and had been for moons now, stirring up trouble here. "Though I'm sure that pretty little kitypet will come around again. They always do when they're in love. It takes much more than a simple talk to het them to stand down. Soldiers of Love, I've always called them! Oh, I can just see the wedding bells now. Duskfeather and the kittypet, lovers at last." He acted as though he was swooning, laughfter in his eyes and teasing in his tone.

"Oh, don't get me wrong," Bonefang replied quickly. "I don't have anything against the former kittypet, 'ol whatshername. I'm just surprised that she'd be interested in him at all." He looked at Peakgaze and wondered if he was trying to stir up trouble. "I really don't care what she cat Dustfeather wants for a mate, just as long as she belongs to SummerClan."
