"Hey, that wasn't a part of the deal." Scorchedwhisker said, curling his lip just a bit before he was poked in the chest. The action took him by surprise. "We agreed that if you caught something, you'd go back to camp. We're going back to camp either way." He said with a soft growl. She was determined. Much more determined than he would have given her credit for. Scorchedwhisker rubbed his face with his paw as he let out a low groan. "I don't know what's giving me a worse headache... the hunger or your scolding..." The tom let his paw rest against his chest as he looked up at her. "... We can't eat what we catch. The fresher catches is reserved for the elders and queens, like yourself. If we go back now, I can grab something from the bottom of the pile. Would that work?"
Pollendrone rolled her eyes, of course he was coming up with reasons not to eat. "Deals change, and this one is being resubmitted. You cant really stop me anyway." Okay maybe she was almost as stubborn as the tom, she could admit that, but she had a good reason. She gently lifted one of her paws and ran it over the cream fur of her chest, brushing away some dust that had gathered there. "I'm going to start walking now, away from camp, you can go back now or you can follow me and we can share a piece of warm prey." Her tail tip flicked over his nose as she turned around and began hop away. It was still early on in her pregnancy and although she was out of practice after being in prison she was sure she could catch something to curve Scorchedwhiskers hunger, even if just a little bit.

"...I thought we both agreed the world couldn't handle two stubborn cats." Scorchedwhisker snapped softly as he rolled back onto his stomach. The tom stared after her, rubbing his nose after she had flicked him with her tail. He quickly stumbled to his paws and ran after her, not willing to risk what would happen if he returned to camp without her. "Why do you care so much anyway?" He couldn't help but ask the question. They hadn't known each other for very long, but it seemed as though she were going the extra mile to make sure that he ate. Whatsmore, Scorchedwhisker was used to taking care of himself. He was a grown tom, he could handle a little bit of hunger. He never really had anyone care this much about him before. Now this queen, who he hadn't even shared two words with before this escapade, was doing everything in her power to make sure he was okay? It created a foreign feeling in the tom's chest that he hadn't felt in a long time, not since he had lived in Moonclan with his mother and sister.
"The world cant handle it, so I guess that means we will have to fight for the title of most stubborn cat." she looked over her shoulder at him with a smile and gave him a little wink. "Dont worry I'll go easy on you.. after you've eaten of course." Her laughter filled the air between them, it was light and soft; almost as if she were singing a lullaby with no words. She continued to walk, slowing her pace as he cuaght up to her, her eyes once again lifted to the sky. She would never again take for granted being able to look up and see the beautiful sight of the white clouds painted against the soft blue backdrop. Pollendrones ears twitched but she didnt look at him when he spoke again, a curious question that made her smile warmly. She had no reason to care for this tom, nothing binding her to him or forcing her to care about his life. "If others can hate for no reason, then why can't I care without a reason?" She countered with a question of her own, the world was fill with so much unnecessary hatred and she would not be apart of it. If she held hatred in her heart it was not without reason.

Scorchedwhisker stayed silent, waiting for her explanation. "No one does anything without reason, Pollendrone." He commented with a simple flick of his tail. He couldn't help it. "I mean... does anyone really act impulsively just because of nothing?" After all, that was why Sunclan was in this mess to begin with. Littlecrow killed the Sun God because she had a reason to. Bloodystar deposed of Littlestar because he had a reason to. It wasn't done because they were going off of pure impulse. But he didn't think that would be the best example to give her. "We always do things because we have a reason. I skipped on meals because I had a reason to. There was a prey shortage. Queens and kits come first, as well as the elders. I left Moonclan because I had a reason to. I joined Sunclan because I had a reason to. I didn't do all of that for no reason."
Pollendrone blinked slowly and lowered her eyes so that they were now on him, he didnt understand. "Like you, many things I do have a reason." She said softly, pausing in her steps and turning to face him head on. "I stopped starving myself in prison because I couldn't stand to see someone suffer with me, I offered support and voice, allowing myself to be injured so that I could save someone else from the pain, I accepted my mate and am having his kits because I had a reason, Scorchedwhisker, you arent wrong, we all have reasons for doing certain things but there are also moments like these when no matter how hard you search there just isnt one." Her paw brushed gently against one of her cheeks, over the scars that hid beneath her fur and she smiled weakly. "I dont have a reason to explain why I care, and it's okay if you dont understand because I'll keep caring either way." She tilted her head slightly still offering her little smile, though there was a sadness in the depths of her brown eyes, perhaps from the memories she had spoken of, things she had not to anyone since she had been set free.

He was starting to hate that sad look in her eyes. It unnerved him, and he couldn't explain why. Scorchedwhisker didn't know what had happened to her in the prison, and here she was revealing small bits of information to him as if they were old friends. The tom had managed to hold her gaze, something that was hard for him to do. He often avoided the gaze of others, unable to look them directly in the eye. He wasn't sure when he had picked up the habit, but now he couldn't seem to break his gaze away. A small fire burned in his chest at the thought of another cat injuring her. She had been nothing but kind so far in their odd little venture, aside from her surprisingly sharp tongue. The cream-colored tom hadn't realized that his claws had slid out of their sheaths until he had created scores into the dirt. The warrior flicked his ears as he finally looked away from her and up at the sky. They still had plenty of daylight, plenty of time to bring something back if they could find it. He stayed quiet for a while before he looked at her again. "...I can't say that I understand, but I have a feeling you'll end up drilling it into my hard head soon enough." He commented, lifting his paw slightly as though he were about to give her a comforting pat on the shoulder. But Scorchedwhisker quickly put his paw back down. "But you better eat your share of the catch."
