Scorchedwhisker let out a short breath as he paused. He quickly squeezed his eyes shut as he dropped what little prey he could near the fresh-kill pile. The tom had been skipping out on meals now that the high priest had explained the prey shortage in Sunclan’s territory. The siamese tom was more concerned with making sure the queens and the elders had more food, even if some still complained about it. Scorchedwhisker slowly sat down, crouching down as he pressed a paw against his head. He took long, deep breaths as he waited for the dizzy spell to dissipate. He still had to go back out to look for more prey. The warrior curled a lip as he cracked an eye open to look at the measly catch that he had brought back. It wouldn’t even be enough to feed a kit…! With a soft growl he tossed it towards the pile as he slowly began to stand up again. His instincts told him to rest, save his strength and to eat something before he spent all his energy again. But there was work to be done, and Scorchedwhisker couldn’t afford to be lay around like he would normally do. Phantom
It was still a strange feeling being able to freely roam around camp again, no longer confined to the dark and stuffy prison though her freedom had been cut short as now she was spending most of her days in the nursery as her belly slowly grew. She was still thin, only a slight pudge to her abdomen now; if not for the constant supervision and her sleeping arrangement it would still be too early for most to be able to tell she was expecting at all. Pollendrone had slipped out of the nursery and paused for a moment to let the suns rays seep through her fur, after not being able to feel the suns warmth for so long she learned to never take it for granted. Her eyes scanned the clearing but as they passed over the freshkill pile she doubled back, focusing on Scorchedwhisker at just the right moment. He was crouched low with a paw against his head, worry immediately began to take hold but she did not rush to his side. Her trust in others had been broken, she did not know this tom well, did not know who he was following. Taking a breath she approached the fresh kill pile slowly, looking it over for a moment before turning away from it without taking anything. "Are you alright?" It was a simple question and she was fighting her instincts to help him as he began to stand back up, but she couldn't risk being harmed again.

The tomcat turned slowly when he heard someone calling out to him. He could barely hear their voice through the ringing in his ears, and he curled a lip at the sensation. Scorchedwhisker’s disgruntled demeanor barely softened as he glanced at the new queen. He recognized her as one of the cats from the previous ceremonies, the ones that had been paired off with Littlecrow’s kin. His blue eyes searched the clearing, wondering if she had called out to her new partner. “Me?” He questioned with a raised brow. “I’m fine.” Scorchedwhisker said a bit to shortly. “Shouldn’t you be resting, or something?” Had she seen him struggling just now? It was nothing but a small dizzy spell... besides he hardly knew this she-cat, and he was certain that she had no idea who he was. The tom supposed he couldn’t fault her for being polite and asking after him, however. Even if it did strike him as odd
Pollendrone stood there waiting for a reply, wondering if maybe he hadn't heard her, she was about to ask again but before she could even open her mouth he spoke. Her whiskers twitched as she watched him closely, eyes narrowing ever so slightly. She knew her eyes had not deceived her, something was wrong. "Yes you." She retorted, her tone cautious. She ignored his comment about her resting, it was all she ever did. "I am not blind, you shouldn't push yourself so hard... what use will you be to any cat is you ignore your health." While she refused to let herself fully care, she couldn't completely abandon her nurturing ways, by the look of him, he was in poor shape though too stubborn to admit it.

He wasn’t exactly used to others caring about whether he pushed himself too hard or not. The last cat to do that was his mother. But he hadn’t seen her for a few seasons now. Yet it was all Scorchedwhisker ever did. Push himself harder if it meant being useful to the clan. He didn’t go through that initiation process for nothing. “I’ll rest after I bring a larger catch back.” The tom said with a flick of his tail. “Since you have perfect vision, I’m sure you can see that the fresh-kill pile isn’t as stocked as it should be.” He mewed a bit gruffly. “So unless you want to eat nothing but dirt, I can’t exactly rest just yet. Unlike you, a pregnant she-cat, who should be resting. Or do you just hang out in the nursery for fun?”
Her eyes rolled and she let out a huff at his reluctance, at this rate he would push himself so far no cat would be able to help him, what a stubborn tom. "Look I wont stop you, but you can only do so much.." She had just gotten the words out when he once again made a comment about how she should be resting, her neck fur lifted slight and her claws flexed into the ground below her. "I'm only ever allowed to rest, I'm not even that far along yet but sun god forbid I lift a paw or breath too hard." She hadn't meant to snap, but she was tired of being coddled, treated as if she was the most fragile thing in the world just because she was pregnant, of course her new raging hormones' didn't help much either.
She was staring at the large tom and after a moment an idea popped into her head. "Lets go." She purred, flicking his shoulder with her tail, her mood suddenly better.

Scorchedwhisker barely had time to blink as the queen’s mood continuously shifted. He looked over at her, his blue eyes wide as his words failed him for once. He wasn’t entirely sure what to say. She went from caring, too angry, too… mischievous? Whatever it was, it had happened so quickly that the tom hadn’t the time to process it all. “…Look, lady,” He finally said, curling his lip a bit out of habit when he saw her claws slide out of their sheaths. “You’re pregnant. Not much you can do, and by the look of you it looks like you haven’t eaten in days. Didn’t you just come out of prison? Maybe resting is the best thing to do. I ain’t coddling you, I’m just being logical…hey..!” Scorchedwhisker took a few steps back when she suddenly flicked him with her tail. “Go? Go where? Weren’t you just listening to me?”
Pollendrone had walked a short distance past him and stopped, looking over her shoulder with a smile. "My name is Pollendrone, not lady." She corrected, ignoring the curling of his lip. The tip of her tail twitched back and forth as she waited, she already had to listen to others tell her she couldn't do anything, she wouldn't let this tom do it. "I'm still listening, but if I get too far away then I wont be able to hear the grumpy in your voice so come on. We're going hunting, it would be awful if I had to eat dirt, don't you agree?" She let out a purr and turned to fully face him, her brown eyes glowing. "Come on grumpy, you were so determined just a moment ago, can't let the kits starve." She still didn't trust him, but this was her best chance at getting away from the camp, she would have an escort and she could help.

He felt like a fish out of water. Scorchedwhisker just couldn’t keep up with this queen. He quickly closed his mouth when he felt it open slightly, as if he were waiting for the words to fall out. But there were no words. At least none that he could find. The tomcat looked around quickly, hoping that no one would see him walking out with a pregnant queen who should be resting. Wasn’t her mate that really big tom cat? Lionproud or something? Was this she-cat trying to get him killed? When he looked back towards her, she had already made it towards the mouth of the tunnel. Scorchedwhisker quickly moved towards her, his tail lashing in frustration. “Grumpy is nothing compared to what’ll happen to me if something happens to you out there, Pollendrone…” He hissed, exaggerating her name a bit as he half-heartedly glared at her. The quick movements caused another wave of vertigo to hit him, and he did his best to hide that fact. He was lucky that he didn’t start swaying on his paws. “One round of hunting, thats it. If you don’t catch anything the first time I’m taking you back here. Or do you want to see your massively large mate tear me into shreds?”
"I guess we'll just have to make sure nothing happens to me then." An airy laugh followed her words and she slipped into the tunnel to leave camp, knowing that Schorchedwhisker was behind her. A light appeared as she reached the end of the tunnel, stepping out into the open she looked up at the sky as she often did and closed her eyes, she had missed this. "So what you're saying is if I do catch something I have permission to stay out here?" She narrowed her eyes and turned her head to him. "If we are playing that game then the same goes for you, if you don't catch your large prey you wanted then I'm bringing you back to rest." She didn't comment on his fear of Lionpride being angry, he would understand hopefully that she needed this, so long as she came back in one piece.

“Hey! Don’t just… great…” Scorchedwhisker growled as he watched her walk through the tunnel. The siamese tom looked back at the camp before he ran through the tunnel after her. She was really going to get him killed. When he finally got up to her he had to squeeze his eyes shut and take a deep breath. The warrior slowly opened his eyes, urging them to focus quickly as he looked back up at Pollendrone. Great, now he really was responsible for her. He practically gaped at her suggestion, the fur on his neck quickly bristling as she used his words against him. “No, you don’t have permission to stay out here…! You catch one thing, you go back to camp. You don’t catch anything, you go back to camp. That’s it. You are pregnant, or have you not realized that yet? You can’t do anything risky, and this is risky…!” Scorchedwhisker sat down, curling his tail around his paws as he let out an annoyed sigh. “And I didn’t say I wanted to catch something large, I wanted to catch more than those measly two mice I brought back.”
Pollendrone let out a sigh, it seemed she wouldn't have an easy time with this one, but she wasn't about to just double over and obey either. "I guess it's a good thing I don't need your permission grumpy." She smiled when the fur on his neck stood up, shaking her head slightly she turned toward him and took a few steps so she was right in front of him. "Being pregnant doesn't mean I can't do anything, You're just a worry wart." Her face was only inches from his, having to stand on her tip toes to gain some height since he was taller than her. "If your going to be this way though I'll just go alone, stubborn tom can't even accept help when it's offered." She lifted a paw and poked his nose, fully prepared to leave him sitting there.

“Scorchedwhisker. Not grumpy, Scorchedwhisker, Pollendrone.” The tom grumbled, emphasizing her name once more. His blue eyes narrowed dangerously when she moved closer to him. It only made his fur bristle more, creating the illusion that Scorchedwhisker was twice the size he actually was. The lanky tom glared down at her, his yes darting back and forth between her eyes, and the foliage around them. He wasn’t used to cats being this close to him. Not since he left his mother in Moonclan. The pure discomfort he felt could be seen on his face as he slowly backed away from him. “You do know what personal space is right?” It was a low, but soft snarl as he finally focused on her face. “I’d appreciate it if-“ He found himself at a lost for words once more as Pollendrone actually poked his nose. Scorchedwhisker was dumbfounded by this she-cat again. He’d expect this behavior from Blissfulkit. But a grown cat? Were all she-cats like this? What did she think would happen with the simple gesture? She had certainly stunned him. Scorchedwhisker sat back on his haunches and slowly rubbed his nose with his paw as he stared down at it. “…hang on, you didn’t offer help, you just invited yourself. Go alone… are you trying to get me killed by your mate?”
She could see the discomfort on his face and for a moment thought that she had gone too far but she didnt back away, maybe it was the hormones or the fact that she had been broken down and trapped in the dark prison, whatever it was it had changed her and the poor tom in front of her was the first to see it. Her eyes stayed on his, watching as they moved back and forth for a possible escape route, listening to him but not answering until he sat back and rubbed his nose looking completely lost. "I invited myself, yes, but it was also an offer to help, I did say we were going hunting after all." It hadn't been a direct offer, but an offer none the less. She backed away from him and sat down, giving him the space he clearly wanted. "I wouldn't let Lionpride hurt you, you've done nothing wrong." Her voice softened. "I was stuck in that dark hole for so long, I need to feel like I'm normal again." Very few knew exactly what had happened in the prison, and she didnt make it a habit of sharing the harsh details, but perhaps he would understand that she needed this. "Please Schorchedwhisker." She finally said his name, bits of the broken she-cat that had been a prisoner surfacing.

He let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding when she finally sat back and gave him his space. Scorchedwhisker allowed himself to relax only a little bit as he continued to watch her. He couldn’t help but roll his eyes. The tom still didn’t consider it an offer, but he wasn’t going to continue arguing with her about that. He didn’t want to trigger anymore hormonal rampages. “Just letting you leave camp is doing something wrong.” Scorchedwhisker couldn’t help but add under his breath. He straightened up just a bit when her voice suddenly turned soft. Pollendrone’s entire demeanor seemed to change as she practically pleaded with him to let her join him on a second hunt. The cream colored tom looked her over for a moment, before he cast a quick glance back at the camp. He knew that those in the arranged marriages were forced to stay in the prison with their mates after the last ceremony, but he like most of the clan had no idea what went on in those caves. She did seem to enjoy being out in the sunlight and in the open air of the territory. Was he really that cruel that he would send her back? How often was she able to freely roam about the territory? Scorchedwhisker let out a small groan as he looked back at her, his whiskers teacher as he slumped down once more. “Fine, fine…” He said. “But you have to listen to what I say, for your own safety. And you can deal with Lionpride if he comes after my head, got it?”
She sat quietly after that and waited, watching him for awhile as he seemed to be debating what he should do. She didnt hear the mumble clearly just something about camp and risky but she brushed it away, her eyes never leaving him. "I promise, I wont do anything reckless, I just want to hunt while I'm still able too." She knew once her belly started to grow her ability to do these things would become less and less, and Lionpride would surely watch her closely if he even let her out of his sight, his family was known to have hard pregnancies and even harder labor, his former mate not surviving her own kitting. "I'll be sure to talk to Lionpride." She purred, a new flicker of pure joy shinning in her eyes. "Thank you." She got back to her paws and took a step toward him but stopped, remembering how uncomfortable he had been when she had done it before. "So I guess the prey shortage has gotten pretty bad." She had heard about it, but news was old when it finally made it's way to the prison.

Well, at least she seemed a bit happier now. Scorchedwhisker still had a bit of a bad feeling about all of this. A pregnant queen out and about trying to hunt… he wasn’t sure if Bloodystar would care too much, but he was positive that Lionpride would swipe his head right off. The siamese tom wasn’t exactly in the best of health either since he had started sacrificing his own meals for the queens and kits. Sometimes the elders, but they always got on his nerves. He would just have to be extra diligent now. “I’m going to hold you to that.” Scorchedwhisker grumbled. “No one in their right mind would mess with Lionpride…” The warrior didn’t pay much mind to her thanks. His only acknowledgment of it was a small, you’re welcome, that was said under his breath as he slowly stood back up to his paws. Scorchedwhisker tried his best not to recoil much as he saw her take another few steps closer to her, and couldn’t help but curl his lip a bit. “There’s nothing to be found it seems like. Can’t abuse their hiding spots or the few pools of water they find, and then you can’t get too close to the borders where they’re all running too. This Sun God better come back soon, or he won’t have any more loyal followers to kiss his paws.” He growled as he started walking ahead a few paces, but stopped for a minute to make sure that Pollendrone was following him.
Pollendrones smile faltered but quickly returned, a little smaller now after hearing just how bad things had gotten. "The Sun God will return, and then everything will return to how it should be." Her tone was uncertain as she tried to convince herself the statement were true, she had to believe that everything they were going through, everything she and Lionpride had gave in to had not been for nothing. She followed behind him, stopping briefly when he paused to look back at her so that the distance between them didnt grow shorter. "How long have you been out here hunting today?" She questioned cautiously, she was still worried for his health, but it seemed he wasnt too keen on revealing how he was truly feeling.

Scorchedwhisker couldn't help but scoff at that. "Sorry, I don't think I share that optimism. Things are broken right now. Far to broken. It's just going to take one more tragedy or disaster before the clan dissolves into civil dissent, and then it'll be a war inside Sunclan. Loyalists versus dissenters, or whatever. The Sun God won't be able to fix that, if he comes back." The tom's tail lashed from side to side. He fully believed that it wouldn't be long before Sunclan destroyed itself. Scorchedwhisker knew better than to hope for some kind of silver lining in this entire situation. There was none to be found. He flicked his ears at her other question. "I don't know. I don't exactly keep track of it."
"Well, aren't you just a big bundle of depressing. If everyone thought the way you do then Sunclan would have perished long ago." She bit back, not willing to believe what he said, all she had was her hope for the future, for her kits future. "It's those of us still holding onto that hope, as small as it may be that are going to bring this clan back to its glory while you and the rest sit on your butts in a daze because you have already decided it is beyond saving." Her words came out in a low growl as she stared the tom down, he seemed to be of no help to not only himself but also to the saving of their home. She didn't comment further on his health, to occupied with his outlook on the happening in Sunclan to even think about pestering him to take care of himself. "You're a fool Scorchedwhisker."
