Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Autumngossamer laid sprawled across the ground, clay stones etched with symbols were scattered across the ground. She was a Historian, in charge of attempting to make sense of DayClan's history, but lately she couldn't find the willpower to focus on her work. She rolled her head over to look at Deal who had been waiting two minutes for her to "finish up."
"I think this is as far as today's going to go," The orange tabby said as she picked herself up onto her white paws, "You want to grab seafood from the league or are you in the mood for something more organic and fresh?"
If someone told her that she would someday be friends with some old guy she wouldn't have believed it, but now there was no one in DayClan she'd rather hangout with more. Deal lived in SunClan, hated some people, liked others, and didn't seem above gossiping about them either. Plus he was cursed in SunClan too and really who else could she vent to about this stuff? Literally no one would understand the drama better than him.
Here he was, back in DayClan and surrounded by cats he had once loved, yet the only one he truly wanted to see was his friend. Autumngossamer had brought a deity to his knees, cursed him until his death, and yet she was one of the least complicated cats he knew here. She had never tried to kill him, he had never died for her, they had no kits together, and he needed that normalcy in his life. So though his head was telling him to leave this place and all its memories, he lingered for just a while longer.
Honestly, he might be willing to wait to leave the clan, but that did not mean he was patient today. Deal shifted from side to side as she continued her work, wondering if he should just give up and come back later. Would she even notice? He took a step back, testing her, and decided she might not. Before he could fully retreat she sat back, and finally, finally, she was ready to go.
"Fresh," he asserted right away. His old friends in the League were gone now and he had no desire to make new ones. "I don't care what we eat, let's just stay away from cats that don't like me. As much as we can, anyway."
"Picky," Autumngossamer said jokingly before tasting the air, attempting to decide where to go. The farmlands of DayClan were the best part of the territory, but it was so annoyingly close to SunClan's borders. "If we're careful we can hunt in the Everbleeds," She suggested. There were plenty of dangerous predators there, but she didn't want to stay in the valley when the whole point of them hanging out was to get away from everyone. The Everbleeds "Mountains" Or what DayClan flat landers were calling a mountain were a guaranteed lonely area. Plus she was dying to exchange some gossip, a nice distant area would be perfect.
Deal considered only briefly; then he nodded. While he had more than his fair share of run-ins with predators in his past, he had escaped them every time. If they ran into trouble they could always wiggle free. He couldn't imagine the powerful former Soothsayer would be easily felled by a badger. Besides, they would be blissfully empty.
He started toward the camp exit, then paused, throwing a stern look back at her. "If we happen to run into someone there that doesn't like me, I'm blaming you. More importantly, if anyone asks, my name is Bargain. Got it?"
For a few troubled moons he had gone by Bargainhunter and lived in MoonClan. One of the most peaceful experiences of his life, before they found their new gods, though it had been rudely started and then interrupted by Foxstar. Now he fell easily back into the old name when he needed to disguise his identity, though he had yet to convince anyone he wasn't Deal.
"Are you kidding me? If I was trying to hide my identity I wouldn't go by Fallspiderwebs. Bargainhunter, alright buddy, whatever you want," Autumngossamer marveled.
Walking up to the Everbleeds she realized that even though she felt it was lunacy to consider the rocky terrain anything close to mountains it wasn't like she had anything to compare it to. She lived in DayClan, but when she moved to SunClan she wasn't allowed to leave. Not without being suspicious, but she never wanted to jeopardize what she had, not at first. So instead the ForestClans were all she knew. Even when she got help from WinterClan that was thanks to Firetooth and Moonlitnocturne, she had never gone there.
"So I heard you travel a lot, what's it like outside of the ForestClans? Have you gone to any other clans in the ForestClans?" She asked with sudden interest, but seemed to recognize that and added, "It's just that, I've never really left this area. I mean, I did, kind of when I was looking for help and found Firetooth."
Deal rolled his eyes, feeling defensive. "It's a good name! Bargainhunter could easily be the name of one of my sons, don't you think? If I'm going undercover, it'll be most convincing if I admit I'm related to Deal... I just know him a little bit better than they expect." After all, his distinctive coat wasn't going to fool many cats.
He smiled at her line of questioning, realizing just how little they knew about each other. "I've been to all of the clans, even ones that are gone now," Deal told her. "I even lived in Renegade Regime for a while, that's where I got these scars." He gestured to the Sentinel badge on his chest. "And the League held me captive for moons on end. I've always moved around a lot, even when I was a clan cat. There's so much out there to see. You really should start adventuring outside of here. Toxicity had these massive stone towers, guardians I think they were called. If you could sneak past the foxes to climb them, you had an amazing view all around you. If you never leave this territory, you'll never see things like that."
"Yeah I guess that could work," Autumngossamer said, seriously seeming to think about the authenticity of the name.
She listened, but her expression looked uncomfortable at the mention of him being locked up. "Hey I know this is a little random, but... Does it ever bother you that people kind of... Objectify you to being this guy that just exists to create kits? Not that I think of you that way, but I know you have enough of a reputation that it's not some rumor you've never heard of before." She wasn't sure what she was looking for in his response, hope that maybe if it wasn't bad for him it wouldn't be bad for her. Or maybe if he disliked it she wouldn't feel so alone. Deal's case was different in a lot of way, but the way they were viewed was similar enough or else they probably wouldn't have been punished by the same people.
Deal looked away as she spoke, swallowing hard. He had never known Autumngossamer to desist from the hard questions, but this one had been completely unexpected, and he realized he didn't have a good answer for her.
"It does," he admitted, "but I try to let it go. I mean, they're not really wrong, are they? I didn't know at the time what I was doing-- I didn't know that I had that many kits, I mean. Most of their mothers never told me, and I just assumed if they were pregnant they would have said something, you know? But obviously, I was wrong. I can't get mad at anybody for only knowing me because of my kittens, because I did that to myself. And even if I wanted to change my legacy... there's nothing I can replace it with. I could tell tales of when I was a leader, I guess, but I hate that part of my life. I would take it back if I could. If I have to be known for something, at least let it be something good."
He laughed. "I know most cats wouldn't consider having a lot of kits to be a good thing, and I don't really disagree. But when I think of what they've done... some of my kids were great cats. They did so much with their lives. And if I try and deny what I did, then it's like saying I regret them and everything they accomplished, you know?"
