He slept most of his time in the prison. It was the only thing he could do to stay sane. His dreams gave him all the space he needed to roam free and live. He could still taste the fresh air there, not the dry, rotten stuff that filled his lungs now. It didn't help that he had to share this space with some other cat... what was her name... Sunnysmiles! They hadn't spoken since the day their marriage was announced, and he planned to keep that going as long as possible. He had done more talking with Bloodyrondo on his night out than he had in a long time. His throat was still coarse from it.
He had enough of the place, and he was confident that Sunnysmiles learned to hold her tongue in the past week. The pitch black tom slithered his way out of the small cell into the main cave. He hardly gave the guard any acknowledgement as he passed. He would have regretted it if he saw the confusion on the guard's face when he left without his 'mate'. Ghazen was oblivious to it, so he just left the tunnel system to get some dinner.

Comparatively, Sunnysmiles had at least tried to be a busy bee. But with the way the cells were separated, there was only so much she could do besides speak in whispers to the prisoner next door. Every time she thought she recognized the voice, it would hush itself enough for her to doubt it. That was what was keeping her sane. Even talking to the more amicable guards was better than just sleeping. For as much as she appreciated having Ghazen by her side, it was like he wasn't really there.
So when he stood up one day and walked out, Sunnysmiles was shocked. He really had the guts to just do it. The guard looked from him to her and Sunny slowly pulled herself onto her feet. Her leg was close to coming out of the cast, but for now, she still hobbled after him. "Sorry." She quickly whispered to the guard before tailing after him, secretly excited to get out of these tunnels for a time. Sunny couldn't help the sigh of relief the moment the sky was above her, loud enough to probably drag Ghazen's attention back to her.

He thought he heard the she-cat exit behind him, but he didn't bother to look. If it was, then no big deal. If not, then it was a guard. He coul handle a guard. The last one didn't do anything, so he thought a good glare would suffice for the next one. Besides, Bloodyrondo said that their mates had the authority to let them out. He exercised that authority, perhaps later than he had to. He could not mistake who was behind him once he heard the sigh of relief behind him.
The tom grunted at the noise. Great. He looked back at her and beckoned her towards him with his tail. He didn't want to socialize, but rather talk about what they can do to stay under the radar. Well, more tell her. He was under the radar all the time, and he did pretty well until the ceremonies. He grabbed a mouse from the grim prey pile and walked away to sit behind one of the rocks facing the entrance.

Not a lot of cats were milling about, and the ones that did gave her strange looks. But Sunnysmiles was happy to have some sort of freedom, even if it was only because Ghazen wanted that freedom. She stretched like she hadn't in days. Most of the cats around avoided her, even if she started towards them, they would just turn tail and go the other way. Pouting, Sunnysmiles rummaged through the scarce prey pile. Most of the things in there were just skin and bones, plus as she seemed to feel a hundred eyes on her, she gave up and followed after Ghazen. Better to starve and let someone eat, right? Sunny settled herself next to Ghazen, a little bit away so her tail could be seen from the other side of the rock.

The tom let them sit in silence for the first few minutes. He quietly tore into the mouse, and before long nothing but bones remained, but it was mostly bones to begin with. The scarcity of prey alarmed him. When he grew up in Toxicity, a far colder climate, they had prey in this season. It wasn't plentiful, but it certainly looked better than whatever this was. He pushed the bones to the side and looked up to find Sunnysmiles's eyes. "Silence. No rebellion." He gestured with his ear towards Bloodyrondo's den. He didn't want this to happen again, especially considering they probably wouldn't be given so much leeway to leave again. He pointed his tail back and forth between her and himself. "Only in public. In private, go away."

Sunnysmiles didn't let her gaze stay on the mouse too much. The less she thought about eating, the less hungry she felt. If some part of her wished he would split it with her, it was crushed. This is what the marriage was, after all. Still, Ghazen's eyes caught her's and she opened her mouth to speak though quickly closed it. Her eyes narrowed a bit at that first bit though, tail flicking to point at Bloodyrondo's den before back to her. "This isn't our fight to win, I get that. But I can't sit on the sidelines while my siblings are risking their lives to fight." The memory hurt, to know she ran away during that ceremony. And to know her mother was rotting somewhere in the camp. Her tail then flicked between the both of them, "that's fine though."

He shook his head. The had to look after themselves, no one else. "No. Stay free." He looked around the around the camp. "More useful here." His gaze came to rest on the prison. "Nothing there." He knew they were lucky that Bloodystar didn't take an interest in them while they were in prison. If they got sent back there, they would be in the crosshairs. All the looks they were getting told him that the Clan would be watching, waiting for them to mess up. It was inevitable, really, but they could make it as small as possible and hope Lionpride did something dumb again.
He sighed and stuck his claws into the earth. "Long term. We survive."

"Useful here how?" Sunnysmiles couldn't help but ask. She couldn't shake the feeling she was being watched, even as she supposedly sat here out of everyone's sight. "We're just part of the acts that they want to watch, not actual cats. At least in the prison, I could talk to the others more freely." She definitely said her cause she was the main one doing the talking. Sunnysmiles didn't mind, though couldn't help but wonder if Ghazen had listened to her at all.
She let out a sigh as well, glancing back at the fresh kill pile to find it basically empty. "For now, I'll agree. If an opportunity comes up, I will take it though."

He tilted his head to the side. That wasn't enough. He sighed and shook his head. "No. We wait." He did not say do night, rather wait. He was all for making a move, but only when the opportunity presented itself. The defectors and the other prisoners tried inciting rebellion, and it clearly did not work. It only fed the flames. The pitch black tom wanted to stay far away from them. He cautiously looked around before cutting his leg open with a single claw. Black blood pooled around the wound. A demon element. He shrugged. "You should know."

They were not gonna get anywhere this way. Sunnysmiles was the kind to find that opportunity, make it happen rather than just wait it out. She didn't have the patience for it. How was she supposed to get through this? Couldn't get close to anyone other than Ghazen, but then he didn't even want her help? The ties that bound them together felt more like chains.
Sunnysmiles gasped when he cut himself open. "What are you doin--... ... wait. you are, an elemental?"
Post by stardance on Sept 29, 2020 23:11:59 GMT -5
He shrugged. "Yeah." He looked at her again, and his wound closed up almost instantly, leaving only the small droplet of his blood behind to dry. As his wound closed, an identical one opened up and started bleed on her leg. "Minor detail." He looked back to Bloodystar's den. "Not a motive." He lay back down and licked the drying blood off his leg. "Had conversation." His icy eyes looked back at her. "Also not important."

She winced on instinct. Sunnysmiles knew of elementals but had never really interacted with one. The black blood. It just looks so unnatural. She couldn't help the shiver down her spine. Just as quickly as it appeared, it disappeared, and she jumped when one opened up on her own leg. It hurt some, not as much as she thought. But this was an elemental's power? It was kinda scary. Made her glad he was on her side somewhat.
"Minor to you. Does it work in like an area around you or do you focus in on one cat?" Sunnysmiles couldn't help but ask, her curiosity piqued before remembering just who she was talking to. "Oh, my bad. Nevermind. I guess Bloodystar is still stuck in his ways?"
"One cat." He pointed to the blood still on his leg. "Wound closes. Still bleed." He could still bleed out even with his rapid healing. He hadn't tested the limits of what he could do, but it stood to reason. As for Bloodystar, he sighed and rested his head on his paws. "Of course." His dug his claws into the sandstone. "Expected different?"
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 13, 2020 14:00:18 GMT -5
Ah. That made no sense. How can a wound bleed out once it closes? Sunnysmiles decided not to question it too much. It'd make her head hurt. She smiled briefly at that second part, only the first part of a laugh escaping her lips. "Nah. Maybe a little optimistic, but I'm not dumb. It'll take a lot more than a talk between you two to change his mind." The idea hit her, that in theory, Ghazen could kill Bloodystar with his ability. But that would leave himself at a massive risk too. She wouldn't be the one to ask him to chance it.
He laughed a little bit himself when she did. They didn't like each other, but they could bond over something. "I know. I tried." He settled his head back down and began to lick away the blood on his leg. He didn't want to say it out loud, but he couldn't see the clan letting them split unless Bloodystar backed down from his role. So it wasn't going to happen. As much as he liked Littlestar's style, he had no incentive to free her or speak out. "Anything else?"
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 19, 2020 15:28:27 GMT -5
Well, he was definitely speaking for himself. Sunny liked him, but she also liked most everyone. Even Bloodystar, who most people hated. That wasn't really a word in her dictionary. She tilted her head at his question, trying to think. Course, they were going to go their separate ways, so there was no point trying to convince him otherwise. And he wasn't really the sociable type. But Sunny figured she may as well ask. "If you don't mind me asking, how did you get that... ability?"
He shrugged. He wanted the answer to that himself. Everyone he asked the question couldn't tell him answer. Apparently, it just happened to some cats. An unlucky few. "Not sure. Lived near. Left. Returned. Had it."
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 22, 2020 15:35:45 GMT -5
Sunnysmiles wouldn't be of much help in answering that question, since she was the one to ask it. But she'd keep her ear to the wall. See if she could pick up something. There was a strange obsession with these cats with powers that she didn't really get. "Strange. But that's allI really had. Did you have any for me?"
The tom shook his head. "Nope." His throat was starting to hurt from speaking so much. He gave it a scratch before rising to his paws. "Lay low. Survive. Then breakup. Got it?"
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 27, 2020 15:03:51 GMT -5
"Alright. For now." Even though she said it, it was clear to both of them that she didn't fully mean it. If an opportunity arose, she'd take it. And that was all that needed to be said.
