Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. Perhaps he had grown soft over the past couple seasons. It seemed ages since the ruddy-pelted tom had last seen the gathering grounds-- 'surely the last time I was here I was an apprentice?' he mused -- as he made a pointed, constrained effort of avoiding a congregation of others in general. Whether offering up his service for a conveniently timed patrol, or managing to step on a vicious barb of a thorn the day preceding, Saplingsmoke nearly always had a relatively valid excuse to stay behind at camp. Besides, it wasn't a great loss- he was a warrior of average value; he showed up, completed his obligations, but withheld effort necessary for anything beyond that... he wasn't particularly passionate about anything as a single unit.
The sun wasn't at it's highest point any longer, but began to sink into the seepy orange that signified the hour or so before sunset. Russet paws stepped gingerly across the grass, paws that sloped up into wiry legs supporting a willowy, long body. When the tom stood still, he may as well have been made of copper wire itself, some crudely bent mess of a Twoleg's toy. Saplingsmoke tensed and stopped a little shiver in it's track: the brisk wind meant he was nearing Fallclan and Winterclan borders. He had heard of others committing the same crime as he; playing hooky and roaming around neutral territory, exploring. He was briefly unsettled. His eyes were a sharp, cool green, except for the left... a dark brown stain splattered across his iris, bridging over his pupil, and like some cursed shadow it was making his vision pool into a darkness that grew each day. The warrior sent a silent prayer into the sky that he wouldn't run into anyone else: especially someone who would bring on a fight.
[ srry I actually didn't totally know how to start this lol-- I didn't just wanna be like "lalala Saplingsmoke saw Treasurecove n said hiiiii" but i didn't kno where to start]

(Lol, it's okay! We'll make anything work <3)
Treasurecove moved swiftly across FallClan's territory with all of his senses on high-alert. Just moments ago, he'd ended shop for the day and had only one unsold ware from it. Never keeping any of his precious goods within camp more than necessary, the warrior had made it his mission to return the item to its home by nightfall. With the leaf-wrapped bundle secured in his mouth, his paws carried him closer to the gathering place. As the scent of a nearby cat reached his nose, Treasurecove slid into some underbrush. His soot-colored pelt blended in with the shade of the woods, as he peeked through a bramble bush to the neutral clearing. There, an enemy warrior stood, reeking of SpringClan. The outsider's presence wouldn't be enough to cause alarm on a regular day, but no more than ten tail-lengths away from him was a freshly buried stash--the very one Treasurecove had meant to revisit. Sloppy, he thought as his sage eyes narrowed into slits.
Lowering the bundle to the ground and silently covering it with dirt, the FallClan warrior decided he couldn't risk the other stumbling upon his loot. He'd have to play distraction. "You're aware it's not a full moon tonight, right?" his silken voice broke the silence seconds before he padded out of the bush. Hovering on his clan's border, Treasurecove's lips stretched into sly smile. "Or are SpringClan cats as flighty as I've heard..."
A split second before the smooth-talking warrior surprised him by speaking, the tom had noticed what appeared to be a disturbance in the earth-- had someone been digging? Saplingsmoke twitched his ears, furrowing his brow as he turned his head, his good eye taking in the image of the ashen Fallclan cat. It was like he had emerged from the earth itself; how had Saplingsmoke not been aware of his presence sooner? Foolish of him to think he would have, for once, a mild stretch of time to himself.
The tom showed no sign of alarm or dismay. He took a moment to settle into a sitting position, tail furling comfortably around his paws. "Not so much flighty, just a little blind," the gangly tom answered in a humorous, friendly tone. "Suppose I missed the border a little while back. You're quite close to these grounds yourself" -- the tom broke off to give a slight nod towards Treasurecove's position at the edge of the border-- "it almost looks like you have a purpose here."

Momentarily, he was amused by the warrior's sense of humor. The only reason he might not have sensed him sooner was because of the wind's direction, but even that seemed like a stretch. He hadn't been completely downwind after all. Before he could comment as much, the cat continued to talk, but the words weren't quite so appealing this time. Treasurecove didn't mind being questioned, but only because no one ever seemed to know what his true intentions were. This stranger's assumption was extremely accurate though. And with his stash right there, what would have been indifference became irritation. Luckily, he was able to hide such feelings in all but his mind.
"Really? I had no idea," he purred. "I was just following the scent of some lost SpringClan cat nearby, and thought I'd see if they were dumb enough to cross our border. I'm still not convinced." Even though his words were unkind, Treasurecove continued to maintain a cheerful demeanor. Only his eyes, which crinkled like crescent moons, revealed a cold, calculating intention.
Saplingsmoke couldn't quite resist the urge to raise his nose slightly, giving the fainest of haughty sniffs, but he quickly transitioned to casually clearing his throat so as seem more sickly than annoyed. "Ah, what a brave warrior you are, then, coming over to prevent a potential trespass... truly of the Fallclan variety, huh?" He abruptly rose to his paws and slipped into a slow, languid walking pace, parallel to the border that Treasurecove stood behind. It wasn't intentional-- Saplingsmoke's attention was fully focused on the Fallclan tom and the audacity of his irritatingly cheery demeanor-- but the warrior was closing in the distance between him and the buried 'treasure' that had been stashed. "Anyway," he continued, allowing his voice to slip back into a more appeasing, affable tone, "rest assured, I've no interest in crossing the border. I'm not much of a rule-breaker, you see. Just your average introvert, looking for alone time. My name is Saplingsmoke-- and you are...?"

His gaze didn't need to leave the SpringClan tom for him to know the warrior was getting closer and closer to his stash. It didn't sit well with Treasurecove, although he was pleased to note that he'd irritated the other--whose sickly reaction had fooled no one. Merely humming at the slight jab directed towards him, he tried to formulate a plan to steer the pest in the opposite direction, but his best ideas meant crossing the border. In doing so, he would expose himself to a clear disadvantage. Even if the stranger was unaware, Treasurecove's combat skills were nothing to be desired. Oh, he could dodge and outrun most cats, but maintaining a healthy distance was ideal when it came to situations like these. So, he mirrored the warrior's movement, following the path on his own side of the woods in the hopes that his stash might be stepped over without drawing any unwanted attention.
"Treasurecove," he replied with a slight dip of his head. "Ya know, for wanting to be alone, you sure sound eager to spark a conversation with me. Maybe you're starved for attention after all. But, hey! Even if you swear up and down that you're not going to trespass, I think I'll stick around for a bit. Wouldn't want a fox to sneak up on you or anything, or else SpringClan would be down one cat for crafting flower crowns." He was fairly certain that wasn't actually a custom of Saplingsmoke's clan, but at this point he was just hoping to annoy him enough to get him to leave.
Saplingsmoke had begun to allow a sneer curl his lip before Treasurecove had responded, but it quickly flattened, receded, and buried itself into a deep scowl. He hadn't too much experience with the members of outside clans before, but even a recluse like himself could tell that this 'Treasurecove' was a bit different than the average unfriendly enemy clan cat. He had an air about him, a casual, relaxed smugness... as though he was several steps ahead. Saplingsmoke paused, mid-step. "Well," he mrrowed in a thoughtful tone,"Maybe I am starving for some sort of attention. Truly, I often don't feel as though my social needs are met back home. After all, who has time to form a connection between all the flower crown making? You're a proper Fallclanner though, so you wouldn't understand. I'd imagine you're dripping with familial love... and friendship... and--and dried up leaves!"
Suddenly aware again that his paw was midair, the tom allowed it to drop to the ground, stepping forward as he continued speaking. The Fallclan warrior was decently attractive, and perhaps could be considered more impish and wry than irritating, but Saplingsmoke found himself angrier at the fact that he was even thinking about looks when he should be outraged by the tom ruining his quiet evening out. His steps turned to stomps. "Also you're seeming pretty nervous about a dainty Springclan cat crossing the border, surely--" Saplingsmoke voice caught in his throat as his paw sank into loose dirt; he stumbled, losing tread, and as his forelegs splayed out his chest slammed down onto something solid, causing an awkward 'ooomph' of air to escape his lungs. He tried to scrabble to his paws.

(I'm sorry this took me forever to respond to! I'll be better now)
A genuine feeling of glee inched in on his rising panic as he saw the signs of irritation on Saplingsmoke. His plan was kind of, sort of working. Although, the longer he was around the oaf, the weirder he seemed to Treasurecove. His insults had obviously irked him, but now he was complaining about his lacking social life? What kind of response was that? He might have been amused by the odd reaction had his stash been neatly covered and all around hidden, but alas, the stars hadn't aligned that way. Now, the unpredicatbility was just serving to annoy him and the worst part was that he didn't suspect the other was even aware of the effect. Saplingsmoke was just that dense from what he could tell. Most pretty things were. Yes, I'm dripping with dried leaves... Good one.
Continuing to mirror him, but now distracted by the strange things coming out of his mouth, Treasurecove's cool demeanor shattered the instant he realized Saplingsmoke had just tripped onto his precious loot. Had any of it even survived the brute force of that fall? Suddenly, pure fury overwhelmed his senses and before the clumsy fool could figure out what was what, Treasurecove lunged across the border. He landed on the other's back, digging his needle sharp claws into the skin there to latch on. "You mouse-brained lump of daisies!" he hissed as he attempted to cling on while also raking his hind claws downwards.
