Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
He had come in silence, unchallenged. They may have forgetting his name, removed his mark, scoffed at his threats - but they still bowed when he stood before them, and they saw the cruelty back lit in his dark eyes. He was never meant to be a king, but he would not tolerate disrespect, and his intimidating presence had never been a result of his rank. If they noticed the shadow residing in their leader's den, they made no comment.
When Leatherstar returned to his den he would find his predecessor waiting. Burning eyes and a disapproving sneer, it was a familiar look, as if nothing had ever changed. It was just the lord and the apprentice again, they toy he'd brought in to serve as his deputy and play with as he pleased. But Leatherstar had never just been a form of amusement; he had been something else entirely, but now he was nothing. Nothing but a disappointment.
Another failure.
Under laid in the back of the den in silence, his head resting on his paws as he waited for Leatherstar to return to his den - or, if he dared, send some pathetic fool to die in his stead. Unless he had taken leave of his senses entirely, the leader would know what painful fate awaited any messenger he sent. The former leader had not come here to kill, but he would not consider it murder if his victim came to him willingly. He was here to talk to his deputy, and him alone.

"You are casting a rain cloud across my den." Leatherstar meowed at the entrance to his den. It was true he had not been expecting the former leader. Latter fact he thought he was dead. Him showing up now just proved he had run or chosen to leave them in time if torment. And yet no cat stopped him from passing through the circles to reach his den. Leatherstar lowered his head too peer into his den. "Nice of you to come home."
"Nice of you to throw away everything I taught you," he replied dryly. "If I had known you would throw away everything I taught you, I'd have left earlier instead of wasting my time. Well, no, actually I probably would have killed you right then." He made no move to get up, staying right where he was as if this den had never belonged to anyone else. His bored gaze wandered past the leader. "Just think of all the time I could have saved if I picked someone competent."

“You’re only grumbling like an old man because no one missed you.” Leatherstar countered. Towards the end of Understar’s time as leader, leather and started to grow a spine. He owed his thanks to Crimson for taking him on as her personal apprentice. “Are you only here to complain? Or to join the Danes in retirement? Curse the ground I walk on if I have to hear your opinions for the rest of my existence”
Under scowled. "I am an old man." He kept an eye on the tom in judgement, and wrinkled his muzzle a little. "Where was this confidence when you were younger? Don't tell me it's only because you're a leader; it would be far too tempting to tear you down for that, and I've got more important business than running a clan." Leading had never been his thing. He had taken the clan merely to play with it before offering a new leader everything they could have ever asked for. Leatherstar had ruined his gift, of course, but he had no desire to do it again. Under had newer priorities.

Leather shook his head as if he were taking part in a daily argument about his disappointing nature with his father. "I can only thank two entities for making me the way I am now and that is Crimsonrose for the ruthless training and you for leaving me in the midst of a crisis with an entire clan to provide for and no idea what I was doing. If you dont like it you can only blame yourself for being so thick headed and as stubborn as a fox." Leather didnt raise his voice or appear angry. "What do you want Understar? Or have you taken a new name since abandoning WinterClan to a white cat fate?"
A strange look came over his features as he studied the tom, a hint of disbelief in his dark eyes. "I've always known you were a little thick, but you don't really think I abandoned this clan, did you? You think don't think I intended for this clan to die when I left?" His words were slow and deliberate. For once, Leatherstar had thrown him; he hadn't stopped to consider that his successor thought he'd just run away and left them defenseless.

"If it had not been your intention you sure did a lousy job of looping me in on such matters." Leatherstar wanted to reach in and give Understar a nice knock between his ears. Had the tom been so diplomatic and into government conspiracy of his own making that he forgot the rest of them were still living breathing creatures dying slowly to a force they couldnt see. much less defend themselves against. "Did you at least find or accomplish whatever it was that made you leave?"
Under scowled. "I wasted moons preparing you, I wasn't going to just get up and leave for no reason," he snapped. "I thought you had more sense than that. Yet another thing I was wrong about." He shook his head, annoyed, but he'd learned his lesson: don't waste time helping clan cats. I thought I learned that the last time. The former leader sighed deeply, his eyes closing. "Clearly not, since you can't see a perfect opportunity when it's a mouse-length in front of your own muzzle."

"I was a bit busy trying to avoid mass panic." He wrinkled his nose. "You cant expect a cat to know anything that has not been brought to their attention. I charged into an empty SummerClan camp and from there it was a blur. Your own clan thought you were a victim."
"And I'm sure they grieved many moons," he replied dryly. Under knew full well his clan had not understood his decisions, and he did not care to enlighten them. It was a waste of breath to try and justify himself to a clan that loathed outsiders. His eyes narrowed. "I expected that you paid attention to anything I taught you, and figure it out from there. You're a leader, not a kit: you can't expect everything to be spelled out to you directly. Grow up."

"I wasnt a leader at the time." he retorted though now more than ever Blisteringstorm lay in Understar's place a ragged scar across his chest signifying him for his place in old WinterClan. He shook his head to rid his mind of the image of his abusive father whom he too could never appease. "Ive grown up enough since you left to make it this far without you."
His lip curled. "You were a leader the entire time, Leatherstar! Especially once I left. That wasn't clear, I understand, but I thought you'd have the common sense to take over properly when I gave you the chance. I thought you had ambition." His whiskers flared, and then he laughed bitterly. "This far? What exactly do you think you've accomplished here? All you've done so far is hold onto power - and that's hardly an accomplishment, given how passive this sorry excuse of a group is. But well done, well done, I'm so glad you've grown up enough you still need approval."

He flicked his ear in annoyance. "Dont mistake respect for approval." He was growing tired with Understar's visit, was there a point to his return? He lowered himself into a laying position at the entrance to his den. "I am biding my time with the sway of power between SpringClan, NightClan, and SunClan. My sources tell me the Regime will soon make a move to try to loosen SunClans hold on DayClan and as always that is a clan open to influence. If we move in to offer our aid as if it were the plan all along a wounded DayClan may need a shoulder to lean on."
"When I left you, they were already our allies. Instead of congratulating yourself on re-establishing an alliance you lost, you should be thinking ahead." There was a moment here he was about to go on; then he growled and shook his head to himself. Leatherstar had already proven himself a failure, and he would not waste time helping redeem him. There were other young cats that needed him now. He rose and prepared to leave, looking forward to escaping the accursed snowy clan.

"Not as an ally Understar. As a pawn." He meowed as the older tom moved to pass him. Though he was relieved the conversation was apparently over. "My warriors will be reminded of your abandoning them. You will be questioned of your purpose if you return." His green gaze clouding as he spoke.
Under laughed coldly. "Don't tempt me. If anyone tries to stop me they won't be heard from again. Luckily, most of them have more sense than you do. Good luck with your leadership, Leatherstar; at least you've kept these cats soft enough they'll believe your failures are your best."
He had no intention of leaving immediately; though he strode from the den, he did not leave the camp, keeping an eye out for a few of the other cats he wanted to speak with. He would speak with who he chose, and take his time leaving: petty, perhaps, but he had never been anything else.
