Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The tom lumbered, rather than floated, through the territory and lashed his claws at the most particularly offensive shrubs in his path. He was on herb picking duty, which felt like the most wasteful use of his skills he'd ever heard of. "I'm one of the best hunters the clan's ever gonna see, but no. Stupid warriors and their stupid assignments and their stupid laziness," he snarled to no one but himself, or so he thought. When he was a warrior, he'd never pass his own duties off on the apprentices as the current selection of the clan's finest were so prone to do.

The fur on his back was the only sign of Softpaw from where he crouched low in the meadow. The tall blades of grass tickled his nose with every breeze, but he kept his position and fought back the urge to sneeze. He was alert; intensely focused on his every sense in wait of prey. Beetleflight had been drilling him with the proper hunting tactics every warrior knew, but even if his mentor wouldn't say it, Softpaw knew he was disappointed. It didn't matter how many times he practiced stalking and pouncing, he'd never managed to catch a single thing. Much as he hated being looked down on by his clanmates, he didn't want to drag Beetleflight's reputation down to. So, here he was, practicing until he had something to show for himself.
The sound of movement caused his ears to flick in anticipation. Was a rabbit nearby? Inhaling, the tom's excitement faded as the scent of prey remained scarce. Yet, the rustling sounds grew louder. Peeking over the patch of grass, his grey eyes landed on another apprentice stomping through the territory. Great. I won't catch anything with all that noise. Snapping out of his hiding spot at Breezepaw's complaining, Softpaw snarled back, "Stupid apprentices and their lack of awareness more like." As soon as the words left his mouth, his eyes rounded in fear and he quickly ducked back down, hoping Breezepaw didn't hear him.
The words themselves might have been missed, but the voice was not, Breezepaw drawing to a standstill. From ripping through the undergrowth to deafening silence in seconds, he stood motionless, with the only movement being his eyes grazing across the area around him. He might have missed Softpaw altogether were it not for the slightest bristle sweeping along his denmate's silver spine, be it from his brief irritation or the following panic, which was another thing that strayed from Breezepaw'a attention. Had it not been for the embarrassment flushing the skin beneath his pelt a deepening red, he certainly would have caught onto it, but the ink-striped tabby remained oblivious to anything other than his own shame. "Hey Softpaw, were you hunting? Sorry, I didn't think anyone was around," he glossed over his outburst with a strained laugh.

Peeking his head out at the apprentice's voice, Softpaw was relieved to see no anger on the other's face. "Yeah, I uh, was... Don't worry about it though," he replied cautiously. It wasn't like I was going to catch anything anyway. Sitting all the way up, he bowed his head in greeting. "What are you doing out here? Going for a walk or something?" Judging by how careless Breezepaw had been moving through the territory, he definitely wasn't hunting. Although, he'd heard the apprentice was so good at it that maybe, the normal rules didn't apply to him.
The question, innocent though it was, reminded Breezepaw of exactly why he'd been so upset mere moments ago. "No, the warriors put me on herb duty today, so I was heading to the abandoned garden," he explained with an exaggerated sigh, attempting to diffuse his rising annoyance before it could peak once more. "I guess 'cuz of me you won't be doing much of that anymore. You can tag along if you want- I'm sure it will be more fun with the both of us." He glimpsed expectantly over at his denmate, a bit more enthused about the process at the thought of having someone around to talk to.

Softpaw blinked in surprise at the offer. None of his peers had ever asked for his company before. Feeling slightly wary but more excited than anything, he popped out of the grass and bounded over to Breezepaw. "Sure, I'll come along!" If he'd been asked to hunt with him though, he probably would have said no, or at least not responded so eagerly. Compared to himself, Breezepaw was one of the more popular apprentices in NightClan and Softpaw was a little intimidated by that. The only perk here was that it would be hard to embarrass himself collecting herbs. "I don't really have anything else going on now anyways..."
