It was earlier than the deputy wanted to be awake, but he couldn't fall back asleep either. Only moments ago, Swordstrike had jabbed his paw into his eyelid and told him he wouldn't be able to hunt with him in the morning. Apparently, he was being dragged into a patrol of some kind, but wasn't he the one who assigned those? He was still unclear on that. Hystericstar had coughed more than he'd bothered speaking to his new deputy, strangely appreciated as that was. Blinking in the darkness of the warrior's den, Shieldheart noticed the sleeping frame of Angelshine. After their late-night hunt, he hadn't found the time to approach her again and had nearly forgotten about the she-cat with how much he'd been busy with lately. Firenettle, for example, and working out mentor assignments for the approaching swarm of new apprentices. And here he thought being deputy meant he'd get to bust a few skulls in here and there, but his own felt like it would split open any day now.
Seeing the tabby she-cat now, made the sleepiness in his eyes nearly vanish on the spot. It was early enough that he could slip out of camp before being dragged into doing more busy work and like he'd told her last, he had a few ideas on how to spend their time. Stretching out of his nest, the tom slowly made his way over to her. It was a struggle stepping around the many sleeping bodies, but eventually he was at her side. One of his white paws prodded at her flank with more care than his brother had shown him. His eye still burned from that... "Angelshine, you up?" he whispered close to her ear.

Angelshine had practically melted back into the clan, fading into the background after her late-night hunting trip with the two warriors, Shieldheart and Swordstrike. She hadn’t seen much of the two toms recently, just in passing. She had practically spent almost all of her time outside of camp, but the fresh kill pile had never looked more stocked. Between her hunting expeditions, the brown she-cat had also been searching for her father as she had this instinctive gut feeling that he was still alive and out there in the world, but each time she returned back to camp even more disappointed and frustrated. She could not believe that her father could be that hard to find and with her new found focus in her mission, the thought of the brothers slipped further into the back of her mind. That is until she felt a gentle paw poking her flank as she was curled up in her nest.
Angelshine opened her eyes and narrowed them, glancing up to give a good glare to the one who disturbed her. Blue eyes met green and the retort that was on the tip of her tongue faded as she recognized Shieldheart standing above her. Just like everytime she saw the deputy, her heart constricted in her chest and her stomach fluttered about. Her lithe frame rose from her nest and she gracefully stretched out her limbs, shaking out her sleek fur before meeting the tom’s green gaze. “Good morning, Shieldheart. Anything I could do for you?” Her voice had a warmer tone than the last time she spoke with him.

His lips quirked into a smile at her inviting tone, both surprised and relieved that she wasn't the grouchy type when being woken up--unlike him. There was also a warmth in the way she spoke to him that was different from last time. For a second, he wondered if she had missed him, but the idea seemed so unprecedented it couldn't possibly be true. "Morning," the word came out in a breath-like laugh. "I was actually thinking there might be something I could do for you." A groan from one of the warrior's made the deputy straighten up and cast a wary glance their way. Giving Angelshine an apologetic look, he weaved his way out of the den where the sky was still dark but bird songs indicated a nearing sunrise.
[How cool is it that I am listening to Aerosmith as I type this haha!]
Angelshine could not deny that she wasn’t at least a little bit curious at his words. As other warrior began to stir, she ducked her head and followed him out of the den. The tabby took a deep breath as she felt the cool fall air hit her face. It was a nice contrast to the warmth of the warrior’s den. As her blue eyes scanned the dark clearing she could tell they were up before most everyone else. It was quiet and empty as they stood outside. Angelshine turned to face Shieldheart and tipped her head to the side, he face taking on it’s usual emotionless and passive state. “What did you have in mind, deputy?” She questioned, blue eyes meeting his in an almost intense way.

(Lol that is pretty cool!)
"I think it's time you had a taste of the finer things in life," he answered, determined to break through her stoic exterior. "I know hunting's great and all, but there's more in the world than that. Today, I'm gonna show you." Shieldheart's confidence was evident as he spoke. Lately, he'd been making it his business to ensure the happiness of some of his clanmates. And after working with Darlingpaw, he was beginning to feel like an expert in the matter. As hard a nut to crack as Angelshine was, there was no way she'd be as challenging as the apprentice. With a glance at the sky, he began padding towards the camp's exit knowing she would follow.

And follow him she did. Angelshine dutifully padded after the tom, huffing out a small sigh. She couldn’t help but wonder what Shieldheart exactly had planned. Her blue gaze cut towards him and she narrowed her eyes, betraying no emotion with her look. “Where are you taking me?” She questioned, coming up to walk alongside his flank. Of course she did not mind spending more time with the brown and white tabby, but she preferred to know where they were going and what they were actually doing.

"On an adventure!" came the vague response. Shieldheart made his way under the two bramble archways of the main entrance and breathed in the forest smells of the territory. Glancing over at her blank expression, the deputy sighed. "Your excitement is almost overwhelming." Rocking his shoulder into her's he laughed, "Lighten up a little, will you! We're gonna go get something to eat." His paws carried him forward through the colorful woods, crunching the leaves on the ground with little concern for the noise.

Angelshine chuckled as he bump her shoulder in a friendly way. She shook her head, closing her eyes for a minute before opening them and looking over at Shieldheart as the made their way out of camp. “Okay. We are going on an ‘adventure’ and getting food. Sounds like you’re everyday life.” She replied back in a lighter tone with a hint of teasing to it. It was weird for her to try and relax around the tom. Her father always demanded obedience and she followed him faithfully. In doing so, she had perfected her stoic and frigid demeanor. Ever the solider. Her pawsteps were light and silent as she padded beside him. A stark contrast to the tom’s loud and crunching gait.

"Basically," Sheildheart replied with a fond smile. Most of his life could be chalked down to traveling, eating, and family stuff. Although, rejoining FallClan had made it harder to focus on two of the three, and his duties as deputy took up most of his free time. He couldn't say he hated adapting to clan life, but he did miss the simplicity of his past. "This promotion has been a whirlwind though. Only travelling I do is laps around camp!" Okay, so maybe he was exaggerating a little, but c'mon! He was entitled to complain every now and then.

“Laps around camp? I did not think it would be that bad. Congratulations on the promotion. Do not let it inflate your ego.” Angelshine replied, glancing over at Shieldheart with raised eyebrows and a slight smirk. That would be very boring to Angelshine. “Any time you wanna escape, I am always taking hunting trips outside of camp. You are welcome to come along.” The brown tabby offered as she kept a steady pace with the deputy. She thought about her life since she joined the camp and she can sympathize with the feeling of confinement that Shieldheart is experiencing. She was used to traveling after her father it was unusual to have a place to come back to at the end of the day.

Too late, he thought. His ego had definitely inflated after the promotion, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t have doubts. “Thank you, and I’ll be sure to jump in on some of your hunting trips.” It didn’t surprise Shieldheart that Angelshine would be out hunting most of the time and it made sense given that he hadn’t seen her around camp much. If she kept up that work ethic, she’d end up as an auralent faster than he could catch a squirrel. Their walk made him feel relaxed—much more comfortable around the warrior than he’d predicted. Though her personality hadn’t really changed, the deputy found he missed her strange behavior. As they carried on their path, the scent of salt tingled in his nose, mixed with the scent markings of SummerClan’s border. He gave no indication of concern as they continued straight towards the invisible line, rather he was smiling. It had been about a moon since the tom had travelled this way and his eyes were lit with anticipation.

Angelshine could not help the small smile that tugged at her lips. She found that she quite content with Shieldheart's company and would look forward to him joining her on her expeditions. The brown tabby let the comfortable silence stretch as they continued their pace, that is until they reached the Summerclan border. The smell of salt hit her nose and she took a deep breath, enjoying the scent of it in the air. Ever the good little soldier, her paws slowed down and she made no movements forward in an attempt to cross the marker. To her surprise, Shieldheart continued onward with confidence and no hesitation in his gait. "What are you doing?" She hissed softly at the deputy as he got closer and closer. She knew that he plan on crossing the border, but she could not figure out why. What was his plan? Did he want her to be exiled from Fallclan? Or was this a trap and there were Summerclan warriors waiting on the other side, preparing to attack?

Shieldheart stopped just before the border and turned to the concerned she-cat. He had almost expected her to have followed him across with no questions asked. Up until now, she had seemed to unconditionally respect his authority as deputy, but this didn’t have anything to do with his position he supposed. After all, it wasn’t like Hystericstar told him to go into SummerClan’s territory or that he even knew this was a regular hobby of Shieldheart’s. “To get where I want to take you, we either have to go through SummerClan or travel around WinterClan and SpringClan. That would more than double our travel time, so this is the best way to go.” He explained his reasoning firmly to imply this was the obvious choice. All things considered, he appeared very nonchalant about invading another clan’s territory.

Angelshine fixed Shieldheart with a critical gaze. What would happen if a Summerclan patrol just happened upon them? Hystericstar would be furious when he found out that they were trespassing on another clan’s territory. Shieldheart could even be demoted. Despite all of the logic bouncing through her mind, Angelshine felt her paws carry her closer to the deputy, instinctively trusting him. “What are we going to do if Summerclan catches us? Hystericstar will be livid with us when he finds out.” She warned, doubt curling through for a brief moment. “What could you possibly have planned that involves us cutting through another clan’s territory?” The tabby questioned as she followed Shieldheart’s lead faithfully.

Thankful and equally surprised by her trust in him, Shieldheart smiled appreciatively. Angelshine was a loyal warrior—something that he greatly respected—both to him and Hystericstar, as well as to the clan. The questions she posed were necessary, not meant to stall or argue the journey. In the short time they’d spent together this morning, he knew he’d made the right decision to extend an invitation to her. The she-cat was full of pleasant surprises. “If we run into a patrol, we can try to talk our way out,” he answered with slight disappointment. Shieldheart was not one to settle things with words, and it had been many moons since his last battle. However, border skirmishes often resulted in wars, and Shieldheart wasn’t that selfish. “Although, I’d be surprised if we ran into anyone. Straight through here is the coast and there’s not much of a reason for them to patrol water they can’t even drink.”

Angelshine flexed her claws at the prospect of a confrontation between them and a patrol, but she suppose Shieldheart provide a good point. They would not need to patrol a border that just held a vast amount of water on the other side. Then again, they should be patrolling it for instance like her and Shieldheart. Cats who wander onto their territory from side of the water. Angelshine padded closer to the deputy as they entered the other clan’s territory, her wary gaze scanning their surroundings. An almost protective instinct made her shift, putting her body between Shieldheart and any potential dangers. “I suppose you do have a point, but any good clan would patrol all of their borders.” She conceded, tearing her watchful gaze away from their environment to glance at the tom.

Her concern was more than warranted in this case, but Shieldheart had grown cocky about this certain path as he'd walked it many times uninterrupted before. However, she was making good points. Really good points. As much as he liked to joke about SummerClan's capabilities, they were a formidable group in reality. Of course, they would patrol all of their borders to some extent and now that he was deputy, being caught intruding wouldn't be taken so lightly anymore. "Alright," he sighed. "I get what you're saying. We can be extra careful..." His face screwed up as he tried to think of a good way to do that while also keeping to the original plan. "If we walk in the water, maybe it would be harder for them to smell us?" It wasn't his best idea, nor one he was jumping up and down to put into action, but coming up with plans wasn't his strong point. "If ya got something better, I'm all ears."

Angelshine could help but wrinkle her nose at the suggestion. Not that it was a bad one, she just was not one for wading into the water for a substantial amount of time. They had to do something though, or they could easily get caught wandering in enemy territory. Her bright blue eyes scanned the area surrounding them before they fell upon a stale pile of fox dung. Her disgust grew and she hated the idea that she thought of even more, but it would keep their paws dry. Her gaze looked back at Shieldheart with reluctance in her eyes. “I have spotted a pile of fox dung. We could roll in that to disguise our scent and travel near the beach.” She suggested, not really looking forward to which idea the deputy would end up backing.

Shieldheart followed her gaze before she spoke, noticing her interest in the pile of dung. What's she thinking? Wait... No! She couldn't be?! As she turned back to him, he already knew what she was about to suggest. Even so, he openly gawked at her as the words left her mouth. "You would rather roll in fox dung than get your fur wet?" he responded in a slow, disbelieving tone. Then, he repeated his own question with an air of realization that she would. "Are you crazy!? Didn't I say we were going out to eat? Does this get your appetite going?"

Angelshine let her shoulder fall up and down in a sort of shrug. “Not particularly. I am assuming you’d rather wade through the water then?” She couldn’t help the spark of amusement that she felt and she had to stifle her chuckle. “We could go with your idea then.” She responded in a matter-of-fact tone before setting off towards the beach. The waves lapped lazily at the shore and it seemed that the ocean was rather calm on this day. It would make their travel rather easy, she had to admit reluctantly. Carefully, Angelshine dipped her paw into the water and the temperature was comfortable. With a small sigh, she waded in further and glanced back at Shieldheart. “Let’s go! The water is still warm from the hot summer so it should not be too terrible.” She called back to the deputy.
