Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Chim didn't visit the queens often. He had been uncomfortable around kits ever since he had his own litter, and he couldn't understand cats that loved them so much. He knew the queens must still be upset with him for allowing SunClan to take some of their family, but what could he do? They all would have died if he hadn't made that choice. He was still the leader - that meant they understood, right?
Memories of the past swam through his mind as he watched a group of kittens frolic through the flowers growing at the edge of tonight's camp, and it was all too easy to imagine they were his sons and daughters, playing with their cousins. The memory came with an insufferable stab of loss. His children were gone now, but his brothers' remained. Was that his fault? Chim had to take a deep breath to push the thought away as he looked up to find who he came for.
"Brownie," he greeted with a polite dip of his head, "I wanted to talk to you if you have time."
Brownie's eyes were glued to Nib, and when Chimerastar approached, she gave him a cursory look before setting them right back on her kit. "Chimerastar," she acknowledged, voice devoid of its typical warmth. She was exhausted and hurt. She had now lost three kits - not that these two had been her bloodline, but it still hurt - and she no longer had the energy to be overly kind. Still, Brownie could muster some politeness for Chim. After all, the kits hadn't been taken or killed in the battle. It had been right after that they suddenly died. Brownie didn't blame him for anything, though maybe that would have been different if something had happened to Nib.
"I can talk, but forgive me if I lack the proper etiquette for a leader. I'm very tired."
"Only if you forgive me disrupting your peace here," he told her, taking her exhaustion into account and looking quietly around the den. He hadn't planned on staying here to talk, but now it felt wrong to take her away from her family. Chim wasn't very good at navigating situations like this and he wasn't sure what the right choice was; he was uncomfortable here but dragging her off into the dark was a poor way to thank her. Chim hovered at the threshold, looking around in silence until he made up his mind.
He stepped closer to her and sat down, curling his tail around his paws. "I won't keep you long. I just wanted to thank you for showing your support at the clan meeting." She had been one of the first cats to step forward and agree he should stay the leader of the clan. Chim didn't expect to be overthrown, but he hadn't counted on her being one of his first supporters either.
The queen yawned and covered her mouth with one brown paw, listening to her leader and thinking about a million other things at the same time. "Of course I supported you, Chimerastar," Brownie answered, setting her paw back down and blinking up at him sleepily. "You gave Nib and I a home. One that I suppose I should begin learning how to protect." Now her brain was moving a direction different from the conversation Chim had probably wanted, but it was worth bringing up regardless.
"Do you suppose I could earn a warrior name like some of the others have?"
Chim waved his tail dismissively - it had hardly been his choice to let her join. Brownie had joined early enough that he had noticed, but even then cats were beginning to figure out they could just follow him around and there was nothing he could do about it. His clan had decided upon their own open admission policy.
"I didn't know you wanted one," he admitted, looking surprised. "But you certainly could. You're as much of a warrior as anyone else here." Chim considered a moment, his head tilting a little to the side. Then he ventured: "A warrior, or a scout."
Brownie smiled at the little push. Scout or warrior, huh? "I could never scout, Chim. I wouldn't dream of leaving Nib in SwiftClan's camp as I left to other places. No, a warrior will do just fine."
She considered this carefully. "What would I do to truly become a warrior?" Cleaver
"Fair enough," he acknowledged with a dip of his head. "But Brownie, keep in mind Nib will be an apprentice soon. You don't have to be a scout, but even a warrior will spend a lot of time outside of camp." He curled his tail around his paws and looked thoughtful. "Do you know how to hunt and fight predators? The warrior code?"
