Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The nursery was all but empty by the time Meadowkit opened her eyes, kits and queens alike having risen with the sun like usual as she slumbered on. Her sleep had been restless last night, as it tended to be, and she hadn't really gotten to sleep until long after her siblings, and it seems like they had chosen to let her sleep in instead of waking her when they did. She took a moment to stretch her legs and carefully smooth down her fur as she rose, hoping that perhaps one of her littermates would wander back in to greet her - but, of course, no such thing happened.
Blinking as the dimness of the den gave way to assault of the bright sunlight outside, Meadowkit stepped outside alone and for a moment felt very small without the familiar comfort blanket of her family at her side.
Antkit tumbled into the dirt with a war cry worthy of any good drama. Playing his own game of pretend to pass the time, throwing himself around and battling invisible enemies. The small kit, never what one would call coordinated, found himself dirtier than he had been in a long time. He carried no shame though at his messy appearance, instead finding humor in it, already thinking of the potential laughs he could get if he was clever enough.
His eyes went over towards the other kit because her white fur was rather eye catching. And the moment he spotted her Antkit was on his way over, a busybody who loved socializing any new face was a potential friend. "Hello!" He crowed, loud and obnoxious. "What did the little tree say to the big tree?" He waited for only a mere blink before he delivered the punchline "leaf me alone!"
Meadowkit jumped as her small, dirty denmate appeared rather suddenly in her field of vision, three sentences out of his mouth before she could even open hers. "Uh, hi, Antkit," she said, taking a step back to lessen the blow of his loud voice without really thinking about it. "That's, uh, funny," she said lamely, not wanting to hurt his feelings despite a quite noticeable lack of laughter on her end. In fact, his joke inspired in her a strong urge to suggest that Antkit himself make like a tree and leave, although she suppressed it.
"Really!" He shouted in triumph, immediately looking around for someone to boast to. No one ever really called his jokes funny, most awkwardly smiled at him and shuffled off. Meadowkit must have a refined sense of humor he decided, able to keep up with his still unpolished sense of humor. Nodding to himself he decided she would have to be his new best friend.
"If you think that one was funny, do you want to hear the other jokes I've been working on?"
Oh, no. What she had done. Meadowkit had hoped telling him his joke was funny would satisfy him, and maybe he would move on to try the rest of his repertoire on someone else, but clearly that did not seem to be the case. "You have more?" she squeaked, casting a desperate look around for somebody who might come along and save her. "You wouldn't want to tell any of them before they're ready, though, would you?"
The little kit paused, mouth open, as he considered her hastily delivered words. Slowly his jaw closed and he blinked in thought, wondering if perhaps Meadowkit had a point. "Well." Humming he trailed off and glanced around, not wanting to give up on telling her his next joke but also finding her reasoning for keeping it to himself sound. "I suppose you make a good argument. But if I'm not telling you jokes what are we going to do together then?"
Meadowkit experienced a brief moment of relief as she saw her hasty excuse get through to him, which was promptly squashed as it became clear that Antkit had no intention to leave her alone. For a moment she had a rather pleasing vision of a game of hide and seek where he hid and she went back to her nest in the nursery and just left him there, but the pang of guilt she experienced at even considering it ruined that idea for her too. She didn't quite have the heart to be that mean to him. "Maybe," she suggested slowly, "we could convince one of the warriors or apprentices to teach us some moves. And you can tell them your joke too." At least she would have someone to share her misery with then.
Antkit beamed towards her, eyes scrunching a little in his happiness. Or perhaps exuberance would be a better word with how he was vibrating and his tail was twitching. "Wow! You're very smart Meadowkit, you have the best ideas! Has anyone ever told you that?" He rambled, leaning forward into her space. Not seeming to pick up on any of the subtle hints, though to be fair Meadowkit wasn't being overt about them. "But do you know any apprentices or warriors? I don't know any."
Even if it came from just about the dopiest kit she'd ever met, a compliment was a compliment, and besides that it was beginning to dawn on Meadowkit that she had Antkit essentially in the pad of her paw. "You know, I don't know if everyone else knows how smart I am. My sister always says I'm the dumb one. She probably needs someone to set her straight," said Meadowkit, suppressing a snicker at the thought of Gardenkit being hounded by Antkit on the subject of the sisters' relative intelligences. She found the thought so amusing that she barely noticed Antkit encroaching on her space. "I've never really talked to any of the warriors, but... I'm sure if you just go up to one and tell them your joke, they'll totally wanna play with us."
"You're probably right! About the warriors that is, I'm sure they'll be reeled right in if I can think of a perfect joke to tell. One that sets up my question and lets them know what I want. But all in joke form!" He was eager to test this theory out but first he had important things to ask Meadowkit. "I don't know your sister. What's her name? I'm sure I can convince her to listen to you more! Since you have such great ideas and are really smart. I think it's sad if she is mean to you and calls you dumb. Because it's not true!"
"Uh, yeah, all those things sound important for jokes," Meadowkit agreed. She had no idea, but felt like whatever Antkit was already planning to say would produce the most amusing results. It was going to be at the expense of Antkit instead of his jokes, but hey, comedy was comedy. "Her name's Gardenkit. She's a calico, kind of like me. And she probably won't want to hear the truth, so if you do see her you might have to be really persistent."
"Really persistent, got it." He affirmed with a cute determined little head nod. Already psyching himself up even if he wouldn't see Gardenkit in the next few moments. By the way Meadowkit described her he worried he would need all his wits about him when dealing with her so he would start mentally preparing himself now. And thinking of jokes! He was sure no matter how much in denial Gardenkit was the jokes would help loosen her stern spirit. "Do you wanna be there? Or should I approach her alone next time I see her and then try to organize a time for reconcile between you two!"
"Oh, definitely approach her when she's alone. And maybe you shouldn't even tell her that we talked about this, because she might think that I made you do it or something," said Meadowkit. She wondered if she should maybe endeavor to follow him around from a safe distance for the next few days, just so she could witness the payoff from afar. "And I'm not making you do anything, you just wanna help because you totally get me. Right?" she said, with a sunny smile.
"I'm not stupid Meadowkit." Acornkit laughed, good natured and simply joking. Unaware how thoroughly he was being lead along right now by the other kit, to trusting. "I won't mention you, I'll just say something along the lines of I saw you two interacting and I don't think she's being kind and that I had spoken to you in passing and thought she was in truth being unfair in her opinion towards you." It was rather amazing how his social graces peeked through in this statement but he still managed to be unaware of what was really happening.
