Shadeflower sat by the entrance of the camp. Her green eyes were unfocused as she seemingly stared out into the territory. The mottled tortoiseshell let out a soft sigh as she glanced back into the camp. She needed to clear her mind. Not focus on everything that’s happened. There was no changing anything now. The warrior stood up, stretching her legs and flexing her claws a bit before she walked back into the center of the camp. Now that she had an apprentice, she at least had something else to focus on. The tortoiseshell walked towards the apprentice den and peered inside. “Goldenpaw? Are you in there?” She called out.
He was the sun's wrath: Harsh golden fur bristling angrily at all times. "Goldpaw," corrected the tom, a narrowed look passed up at Shadeflower as he shouldered his way from the den. Her apprentice could break bones with the ferocity of his glare, telling of his volatile nature, but that was usually reserved for cats that had done him a great wrong. They were, so far, not on good terms as far as Goldpaw was concerned.

Shadeflower's whiskers twitched at the correction. She must have been so concerned about her friend Goldengrace that the name had simply slipped. The tortoiseshell warrior would be sure to not make the same mistake again. However, she did raise a brow at the surly attitude of the apprentice. Shadeflower took a few steps back to give Goldpaw some room. Granted, she had messed up his name but that didn't warrant this much anger from the young tom. Shadeflower merely lifted her head as she looked down upon her apprentice. "My apologies, Goldpaw," She said as she stressed his name. "But the day has just begun. It's time we began your training."
"Plan on teaching me anything interesting?" probed the apprentice, critical eyes appearing to size her up. He wasn't confident in her abilities, that much was evident, and Goldpaw felt increasing annoyance that he would be saddled with such a distracted mentor. How useful was she if she couldn't remember his name? After all, it was only seven letters!

Shadeflower did her best not to curl her lip at her apprentice. Instead, she merely motioned with her tail for him to follow her as she began to make her way towards the entrance of the camp. "Well to start with you'll have to learn the basic layout of the territory." The warrior commented, glancing over her shoulder to make sure that he was following her. "Of course, that is if it is not too boring in your eyes."
The skin along his pelt crawled with excitement, Goldpaw itching to be exploring these lands he called home. He stifled it, however, determined not to let his guard down just yet. "Just lead the way," he said, his tone as casual as he could manage to make it.

With a flick of her tail, Shadeflower led the prickly apprentice out of the tunnel that led out of camp. She paused briefly at the entrance, glancing back to make sure that Goldpaw was following her before she continued. "I'm sure you know what clans we border, but entertain me." Shadeflower commented. "There are three other forest clans. What are they?"
"MoonClan, obviously, but also SwiftClan and SpringClan." Confident was one thing Goldpaw was, but one thing he tended to be overconfident about was his own knowledge. His focus drifted away from his mentor as they left camp, fascination starting to overtake his scowl.

He was clever, she would give him that. Shadeflower nodded slowly as she led him to the border that they shared with Dayclan. She paused at the edge and sat down, wrapping her tail neatly around her paws. "Correct." She said softly. "But also incorrect. Moonclan is one of the forest clans. They are our complete opposite. Where they thrive under the moon in all her beauty and grace, we thrive under the sun in all his warmth and fire. Springclan is one of the four mountain clans, and Swfitclan is a nomadic clan close to the border of the Regime."
He burned with shame; he should have known that, and now his mentor was made aware of his knowledge- or lack thereof. It never occurred to him that Shadeflower might be thinking the opposite. "Oh," he said in a hollow manner, refusing to own up to his blunder or to allow her any more insight into his feelings. "So then the other forest clans would be...." He trailed off. Goldpaw was sure it was on the tip of his tongue, but he was no closer to figuring out the last two clans' names than the night was close to the day.

(can we totally pretend this first bought is before she got demoted lmfao)
Shadeflower waited patiently as Goldpaw thought for a moment. The tip of her tail twitched rhythmically as she looked out across the border and into Dayclan territory. It seemed quite, which was a good thing. It would make the border trips uneventful, which was all she could really ask on their first outing together. The mottled tortoiseshell had no doubt that her apprentice would soon see his fair share of border skirmishes. But for now it was more important to learn about the other clans, rather than fight them. "The forest clans are Moonclan, and Sunclan. Then you have Dayclan and Nightclan. Right now we are sitting at the Dayclan border"
of course! although we should definitely have another thread between gold and weed sometime
"What are the other clans like? Do they also worship the Sun God like us?" She'd previously mentioned MoonClan's inclinations towards the night, but Goldpaw had a hard time imagining a god worth following that wasn't the Sun God. Plus, a Moon God just didn't sound as cool.

"Only Sunclan worships the Sun God." Shadeflower said softly. "Moonclan worships his sister, Selene. Whereas we draw life and energy during the day under the Sun god's life, Moonclan thrives under the light of the moon and stars. Though we are similar, we are different all the same."
