Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Even in the height of summer, a cool breeze whispered in through the brambles of FallClan's nursery, disturbing an already restless sleep. Abandoning the thought of dreaming altogether, with a small sigh Meadowkit's head popped up from the mass of soft kitten fur that was her and her siblings, and she flinched as the cooler air hit her nose after the warmth of being buried in her paws. She tried surreptitiously to stretch her paws out without waking anyone, itching to give them a proper stretch outside.
She felt a pang of guilt for disturbing her sister's sleep as she did it, but after a moment of deliberation, she sat up slowly and, reaching out a single slender white paw, sunk a well-placed jab into a certain set of calico ribs. "Hey," she hissed. "Gardenkit. Wake up."
The disruption of her sleep was not wholly unwelcome.
Her dreamscape made the chilly night air feel all the better when Gardenkit's troubled eyes pried open, her frame overtaken by frightful shivers. The rustle of moving air brought as much comfort as the prod of Meadowkit's paw, grounding her back into reality and allowing her to realign herself, a struggle the little calico faced each morning. "What is it, Meadowkit? Why are you up?" she asked her sister in between a yawn.
"I can't sleep," said Meadowkit in a hushed whisper, resorting to restlessly kneading her sister's side with both forepaws as an outlet for her unwarranted energy. "I wanna go outside. Do you think we'd get in trouble?"
"You're scared of a little trouble now?" A purr vibrated under the gentle rhythm of Meadowkit's paws, the kitten instantly feeling deviant at the side of her partner in crime. She was careful to not disrupt any of their slumbering siblings or the queens as she stood. "I bet I can beat you to the other side of camp."
There was only the briefest of split second pauses after Gardenkit's challenge before Meadowkit was on her feet, scrambling over slumbering nursery-dwellers and mostly managing not to step on anyone's tail. "Eat my dust!" she hissed behind her as she reached the nursery entrance and broke free into the moonlit camp clearing.
Meadowkit paused for a moment just outside the nursery to cast a furtive glance around the camp for any warriors who might interfere - after all, all was fair in a race, and if she got held up by a nosy clanmate her sister might well sneak past and beat her. Finding the coast clear, she took off, letting her long legs for her age carry her with ease.
She knew she wasn't a match for Meadowkit's limber figure, but it never stopped Gardenkit from trying. She skirted the edge of disheveled nests and scattered paws till she broke into the grey-speckled camp, spying the shadow that shaped her sister gaining ground on her. Rather than race directly after Meadowkit, she leapt to the nearest sunningrock to catapult herself from atop it, small form a dart through the cool night's air.
The cool night air whispered through her fur, blowing away all the anxieties that had kept her awake, and Meadowkit was filled with the pure playful joy of youth as she sprinted, suppressing her gleeful giggles. "You can't catch me, yo-oof!" her taunts were abruptly cut off as, with all the grace of a kitten whose legs grew faster than her coordination did, her paws caught on each other and she tumbled head over heels and landed with a thump.
Unfortunately for Meadowkit, impact loomed ever closer, the green gaze of Gardenkit widening as she realized her landfall would be right on top her sister's sprawled form. She released a hiss when she felt them collide and then felt herself roll head-over-paws until she came to a stop. "Oh, the stars are pretty," acknowledged Gardenkit in a daze. Then she giggled, and giggled some more, then found herself caught in a fit of bubbly, contagious laughter.
An uncontrollable flood of laughter welled up in Meadowkit's chest, spilling out into a chorus of giggles in perfect harmony with her sister's. "Shh-shhh," she choked out between streams of her own laughter, "We're gonna wake everyone u-ahaha," she gave way to another fit of laughter as she raised her head to see Gardenkit sprawled so unceremoniously on the camp floor. Not letting laughter get in the way of seizing her chance, however, Meadowkit nevertheless scrambled over her sister's prone form to close the last tail-length to the other side of camp. "I win!" she said, in a whisper that was rather louder than anything called a whisper had a right to be. Her ribs ached from mirth and impact alike, but a gleeful smile stretched across her face.
