Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. Sweetkit hummed quietly to himself as he pawed at a rock that was currently rolling between his front paws. His honey amber eyes squinted slightly in concentration as he passed it back and forth between himself from where he sat. Just outside the den that he and a few of the other podarok's called home. He'd been told not to wander too far off, though he'd always been told that, but this time it seemed to have more of a warning behind it. The kit had just nodded his head along with what he'd been told which was why he was where he was. The sun had just hit its peak in the crisp early winter sky. Snow had just barely started dusting the ground, but it had already started to melt away with the suns slow rise. He'd given the tiny rock an overly hard paw and it went skittering away. A bored sigh left his lips as he craned his head back to look up at the clear sky praying that something interesting would happen. He'd take anything. Anything.
Spicekit looked over at his brother, his tail twitching slightly. "You're really focused on that rock," he commented from his place in the nest that he had called his own right inside the podarok den. Of course, the nursery was only called home to the kittens that weren't blood-related to anyone. They were the orphans, the adopted loves of Smallfire and Midnightcomet's lives. He stayed in the den for a moment longer, before he saw his brother catapult the rock outside of his reach. The small, pale ginger tom took that as his call to get up for the first time that day. His body stretched, before he padded over to his brother.
"Did Ma tell you to stay close in fear of the big bad wolf?" he asked, amusment in his amber eyes. Part of being one of four adopted litters meant that they were always getting instructions without much backing. "Or are ya just sittin so close becasue you have nowhere better to be?"
The podarock jumped in surprise at his brother's sudden appearance. The fur on his shoulders standing on edge as his blood ran to his ears, first from surprise and then embarrassment. His honey amber eyes turned to look at Spicekit his nose twitching with a low burn of annoyance that had fizzled out as quickly as it had come. The ginger cat was never one to hold negative emotions for long. His ears twitched slightly as he listened to his brother. If Sweetkit was honest it was both, while Sweekit did want to leave the vicinity of the den, he didn't really know where to go or well had anywhere to go. His eyes skittered around the area before he looked back at his brother, "Well, I mean ... both I guess" he chirped with a light hesitation, as his tail swayed out of habit behind him. "I'm just ... bored" he'd said after a silent beat had passed.
He noticed the hesitance in his response, and amusement flicked through his eyes. He had startled his brother, which probably hadn't been his original intention, but, well, here we are. "Both, you guess." A mischeivious look entered the young cat's eyes. "And you're bored. Well, Bored, I'm Spicekit and I think we should blow this popsicle stand." His eyes traveled to the enterance of the gather place where the nursery sat. It would be easy to just walk out, and if someone caught them, they could just say they were looking for the den of Smallfire's family. That would work, right? It wouldn't be their first time wandering aimlessly through the territory, either. After all, they'd been abandoned to wander when they first came. "Unless you're bored and chicken, in which case I'll go find Freshkit," he mused, almost like a dare. A, hey man, don't prove that our siblings are cooler than you.
Sweetkit had eyed the look that had crossed his brothers face as he spoke. An uneasy feeling steering in his belly at what that usually meant. His honey amber eyes followed Spicekit's look towards the camp entrance before they widened and napped back to look at his brother. The look was almost comical with disbelief and slight fear. He'd started stammering out that this was a bad idea but he hadn't gotten a cohesive word out before his brother had taunted him by calling him a chicken. Sweetkit's maw snapped shut and his eyes narrowed ever so slightly, his skinny tail lashing side to side. The ginger kit puffed out his chest in defence, while he as still very much a softy and a pushover there was something about his brothers taunting that had caused the tom to defend himself. "I-I am not a chicken!" he stammered out he was almost visibly shaking with the nerves as he scrambled to a standing position, but he still matched Spicekit's gaze. "I've been away from the gather place plenty of times!" which was only a slight fib. He was always in eyes sight of someone else whenever he left the den and camp. Always safe.
"Ya know, lamb chops, there's something about that statement that doesn't make me believe ya. But hey, if you're Mr. Big and Bad and you leave the gathering place all the time, maybe you should be the one that leads us out of this place. You sure sound like you have more experience than me, so you should go first." Delight poked through his amber gaze when he saw that he had riled his sibling up. It wasn't hard to do; Spicekit really had put very minimal effort into it. "Plus, if you're big and brave, I'm sure that a certain other kit might find out and think you were just the coolest cat around." He laughed an innocent laugh, although there wasn't much innocent about him. "A little birdy told me you got into quite the prediciment with one of the royal kittens and this might be the way to being his friend after cruelly embarrassing him, hmm?"
Sweetkit's puffed chest had seemingly deflated as his brother goaded him on. Sweetkit had definitely put his foot in it this time. His stomach dropped at the idea of leading him and his brother around outside the camp. His tiny mind racing about all the things that could go wrong. They could get carried away by a giant bird, or eaten by a... by a bear or something! The podarok shuddered at the mere thought. But, he'd said too much already, and he just knew that if he tried to take back what he'd said his brother would go off blabbing his mouth about how much of an uncool chicken he was. The ginger kit was so easy to figure out, and Spicekit knew precisely how to push Sweetkit's buttons to get him to react. Sweetkit was caught entirely off guard by what his brother had said next though. His pelt burned at who he could have only been mentioning but then his embarrassment turned into fear, not for himself of course, but for the cat that his brother had mentioned. Who had saw? and who had told on them? The ginger kit's fur fluffed up in defence, "W-who told you that!" his tiny voice trembling. If it was anyone else they probably would have denied the accusation that Spicekit was suggesting, but of course we were dealing with Sweetkit.
"Wow, if I didn't know better, I'd think you liked him ~. Don't tell me you're in love with Sir Broods A Lot, hmm ?" He let out a laugh. He would have said the same thing to any of his sisters if they had reacted so strongly to his statemtn. "Anyways, I've got eyes everywhere, little bro. But it's chill I won't tell your little secret. Didn't mean to puff your furs up so much," he teased gently. He hadn't realized just how upset this little sentiment would make his brother, and part of him was amused about it. The other part was really fighting the urge to roll his eyes. Maybe Sweetkit was just as soft as his name suggested. Although that amused Spicekit, he didn't want his brother to be having a full on nervous breakdown. "Let's go, kay? If we are to make it out of this popsicle stand, we gotta get outta here before ma comes back," he sang at his brother, eyeing the entrance.
Sweetkit felt his skin prickle and burn with embarrassment at his brother's laughter and his words. It wasn't like that. As Spicekit mentioned that he had eyes everywhere the ginger poda couldn't help but look around him quickly before looking back at his sibling. If what Spicekit was saying was, in fact, true, the ginger tom couldn't help but feel like he should tell his friend. Give him a heads up or something. Sweetkit decided that he'd honestly be better off not saying anything to his brother anymore after he made such a fool of himself. He shook out his fur trying to get rid of the embarrassment that still lingered and he gave a little grateful sigh as his brother had changed the subject. His gaze once again returned to the camp entrance before he nodded his head in agreement a nervous lump seeming to grow in his throat before he gave a hard swallow turning to look back at SPicekit, "W-Well let's go" he replied his quiet voice wavering as he took the first step towards the entrance.
He watched his brother's demeanor change, and there was a part of him that felt badly. It wasn't a very big part of him, though. After all, Sweetkit should just lighten up, right? There was no reason to take things so seriously, or at least that was the general MO of the ginger tom. Cause trouble and take things probably the opposite of seriously. Was this the best outlook on life? More than likely no. Would he change it? Also more than likely no. He liked his disposition, and wished others were just as casual as he. His noise twitched as he watched his brother take a step towards the camp, and he let out a purr of amusement. "You're still a chicken," he chuckled, following him with skip-like steps. "But we can work on that once we are out of the camp."
"S-Shush" the kit stammered out at his brothers tease. He knew Spicekit was just doing it because it would irk Sweetkit. But, what could he say? Sweetkit was an easy cat to sway. His honey gaze turned forward before quickly looking around to see if anyone was watching before he glanced back at his brother one last time. He wouldn't believe he was about to do this. He looked around one more time finally satisfied that form what he could tell no one was around or paying attention to the pair. With a hard swallow, he picked up his pace and made a quick beeline for the entrance, his tiny paws softly thudding against the ground as he ran.
His white and ginger body slipped out of the entrance and veered sharply to the right when he noticed a bush a few tail-lengths away that they could hide in while they figured out where to go from there. His tiny body shook as he crouched under the bush his gaze searching for Spicekit. Sweetkit had gotten them out of the camp, but he had no clue what to do from there. His heart slamming in his chest from the short sprint and the adrenaline coursing through his veins. "Now what?"
"Make me," he purred back at his brother. The young dedicate of Tiveronah enjoyed this, enjoyed harassing others. He didn't do it vindictively, necessarily. He wasn't that kind of bully. He just did it because it was entertaining, and, of course, one of the principle values of the god in which he was gifted to was entertainment. He let out an amused mrrow as his brother raced out of the den, before finding his paws quickly picking up the same pace. "Out of all of the schemes I have ever concocted," he mused as soon as they were safely out of the camp, "this was the one I was least convinced was going to work. But look at you, surprising me." A grin was on his face while he ruffled his brother's forehead fur.
Unlike his brother, the adreneline hadn't caught him up that badly. Of course, there was some of it pumping through his veins, but he was an adreneline-junkie. He liked the rush that came with doing things like that. His eyes were wide and delighted. "Ya know that... the haunted house? Maybe we should find it and see if it really is haunted !" he decided after a moment, mischeif in his eyes.
