Again Firewind allowed Giantpaw to knock him down. After regaining his feet he shook himself to dislodge some leaves and dirt from his fur. "You're doing very well," he meowed. "Now do it once more and I'll show you a simple defense for this attack if someone else uses it against you in a battle."
Giantpaw went through the maneuver one more time. His confidence was growing, both in himself and his mentor's ability to teach him. Firewind's praise was also helping. He was shocked to realize he even cared about what the crippled deputy thought.
He copied the same motions as before, curious about the defense move he was about to learn.

Firewind leaped into the air high enough to allow Giantpaw's legs to pass under him. As he landed, he swiped the back of the apprentice's head, claws sheathed of course. "The secret is to time your jump and not to jump too high. If you jump too soon, your enemy can change their attack and knock into you while you're still in the air. And if you jump too high, you're enemy will be out of your reach by the time you land. Like to give it a try?"
