"Fallpaw, I appreciate everything you do for this clan, but your ferrets can leave the prey outside of camp. I think that's-" Glowstar inhaled a long breath before managing to whisper out, "Fair."
It took Glowstar a long time to even say the word ferret and camp in the same sentence together. There was a lot of rehearsing for this moment that didn't involve her screaming at Fallpaw that she was out of her mind. Fallpaw likely heard some of her messed up attempts at talking to her before this moment. Fallpaw was her great great granddaughter, she didn't want her to think ill of her, but at the same time it was a ferret!!! Just allowing Fallpaw to even have one in general had been a challenge, in fact even now she just chose not to think about it. A day hadn't gone by where she didn't freeze up in utter fear thinking it could be a ferret. What if they showed their true side? Then she would be a goner!
"StarClan chose you, they told me themselves that they felt you were the best choice and when you accepted the position you gained new power and wisdom. I can't argue that if you think ferrets are for the best that I can't possibly argue with that. I don't carry the knowledge you do, but I do know that they're more dangerous than wolves and have retractable claws longer than eagles talons so PLEASE. For the love of all that is holy, do not bring your ferrets into camp, Fallpaw. I know we have a lot of animals we allow in camp, but please, not the ferrets."

Fallpaw
DayClan Animal Whisperer
The Seductive
Fallpaw had been ready for this moment for a while now. There was really no doubt that Glowstar would eventually confront her about bringing ferrets into camp at some point. She had over heard the leader's ramblings long before now, but it hadn't stopped her. Even now her young white ferret wove through her paws chirping and playing with her tail. She had raised it from a little hairless creature almost impossible to identify. As glowstar finished speaking, the ferret puffed up bearing it's fangs at the leader picking up on how Fallpaw was feeling about the matter
"My ferret is no different than the other animals that are brought into camp, in fact I would argue it could cause a lot less damage than Lionwhisper's human cub" she met the leader's gaze lifting a paw and gently stroking the ferret's head to pacify it "and if I don't raise the ferrets myself they will be impossible to train them to hunt, which is the entire point" she looked down at the little ferret and then back up "but I will compromise with you, I will keep the adult ferrets out of camp so long as I can bring the pups back with me here to raise"
Glowstar screamed as the beast threatened her with its totally razor sharp fangs before focusing again on Fallpaw, "Your great great great grandfather became enemy number one of the ferret clan, all ferrets are descendants of kamaitcahi. They'll harm any member of the Eerie family, it's in their blood to hate us for what my father did to kamaitcahi. We can risk letting them serve us when they'll so willingly hurt any one of us."
Autumngossamer had been applying her makeup nearby, but paused as she was perfecting her eyeliner, "I'm sorry what?" She asked in mock mean laughter.
"My father Oz had a bloody feud with Kamaitachi the ferret, since then all ferrets have descended from Kamaitachi all ready to kill me and my family," Glowstar explained, "And that is why I've been hard on you about it Fallpaw."
Autumngossamer got up to look at the ferret, thinking maybe she didn't actually understand what a ferret was, but nope, just furry, long, and cute. "Okayyy, where did you hear this insane story from?"
"When I was living in Renegade Regime as a kit my brother told me the story that my dad told to him and now I'm telling it to you Fallpaw," Glowstar said, her words were heartfelt, clearly feeling bad that her granddaughter befriended a monster that would inevitably, in her eyes, kill her.
"Mhmm, wow, Fallpaw, what do you think of that?" Autumngossamer asked, trying to consider how to tell Glowstar that was clearly a fabricated story.

Fallpaw listened as the leader rattled on, so this fuss was over some sort of nursery tale. For some reason this didn’t surprise her at all “Well clearly all ferrets are vicious monsters” she replied flicking one ear backwards looking at Glowstar skeptically “and that completely explains why this ferret never leaves my side, and has slept in the my den for moons without chasing any trouble” Fallpaw sighed shaking her head and rising to her paws, the ferret climbing up and clinging onto to her back
“Your afraid of tale told to keep kits in Glowstar” she mewed bluntly, never flinching. She refused to be intimidated by anyone even DayClan’s leader “I am not above reason, but unless you can come up with a practical reason to keep them out of camp I see no reason to comply” she shrugged her shoulders turning away from both of the She-cats. Being around Autumngossamer made her uncomfortable and she wasn’t about to hang around any longer than necessary, not even looking or speaking to her birth mother.
"It is not a nursery tale, every Regime tale is real, they don't make up stupid little lies like they do in the clan. There's no growing up and taking comfort that it was all fake. In the Regime it's culturally different, you don't want kids growing up learning to fear certain stories and growing out of it, the Regime wants control at all times. That's why they make the stories real so there is no outgrowing a scary story. But I guarantee you that this one is real and-"
Autumngossamer massaged the bridge between her nose as Glowstar continued on. Everyone had their irrational fears and hey, if her irrational point of mind was triggered by ferrets? That actually wasn't half bad, at least it wasn't something actually important. It just sucked because Fallpaw happened to choose, of all things, a ferret because why would anything be easy?
"Okay, how about we help you face Kamaitachi so you can bring peace to your family and ferret kind can intermix with cat kind?" Autumngossamer suggested.
"....."
Autumngossamer blushed, "I meant like walking around among DayClan cats."
"Oh yeah, no, I'm sure you meant that," Glowstar said passively.
"DON'T GIVE ME THAT! I know exactly what your dirty little mind thought," Autumngossamer practically screamed at her as her blush got more intense, "What I'm saying is that... Let's just bring some peace of mind to you so Fallpaw can do her job as she pleases."
Glowstar was grinning ear to ear, clearly finding it amusing to get Autumngossamer off her game, "Yeah, okay, I guess Fallpaw does seem to be the ferret tamer in the family. If anyone can bring peace to our curse it's you," Glowstar said, looking back at Fallpaw with interest.

Ok it was official... both of them were insane.
Not only would Kamaitachi more than likely be dead by now if even was real at all, but she wasn't about to believe in some half-baked tale to scare kits into staying in camp. You know or a group of cats that lived underground she could see how ferrets might pose a problem to young cats, but the ones here in DayClan were rather peaceful. Keeping to themselves unless threatened. She had better things to do than go on some wild ferret chase from something that wasn't real. The tip of her tail twitched in irritation.
"I said practical, not sending me off on a fool's errand"
"Ughhh, do you have to be so judgy?" Autumngossamer said with maybe a mock frustration? It was always hard to tell with her valley girl accent.
Glowstar looked between Autumngossamer and Fallpaw, "You're calling her out for being judgmental? You?"
Autumngossamer scoffed before walking closer to Fallpaw so Glowstar couldn't catch their conversation, "Seriously, just trust me, it'll work out," She said her rhythmic bouncy tone had a sly sneakiness about it, "We just have to be smart about it."

"Trust is something that has to be earned" Fallpaw rose to her feet, sweeping her tail over her ferret and began to pad away from the scene that was unfolding. She had no patience for such sillyness, if Glowstar and Autumngossamer wanted to sit around talking about myths and fairy tales than so be it. Didn't mean that she had to stick around and listen to their nonsense.
Glowstar watched Fallpaw leave, but she was leaving WITH the ferrets! Her eyes lit up with joy to see the savage creatures leaving with her, "See, there is no journey, Fallpaw agrees, ferrets should stay out of camp, we're all good, we're on the same page," She said desperately. Where as normally she would be eager to solve the issue and compromise, when it came to ferrets she was a little too determined to drop subjects and decide they were demons.
"Are you really going to not fight for your ferrets right to belong in this camp like every other classified peaceful species just because I'm here?" Autumngossamer asked, but instead turned on her toes to Glowstar, "We all have fears, but we face them for the people we love. I was scared senseless of having a litter, but Lovesmitten made me want to be brave. Doesn't your granddaughter make you want to be brave too?"
Glowstar looked back at Fallpaw, it almost looked like she had a bad itch that she was trying to resist as she stared at the ferret with utter fear. She bent her head away, debating over it as her toes danced along the soil in distress before finally exhaling, "FINE." She flinched, "They... They can stay in camp, Fallpaw," She said walking over to Fallpaw and... The ferrets. "I'm really afraid of them and you know it's senseless, but you were still willing to walk out. I think, it's insane that you want ferrets, but, if you were willing to respect my fear, I need to be brave enough to respect the things you like. You're a great Animal Whisperer, even though those ferrets scare the heck out of me, I can still see how they obey and learn from you. You deserve to be able to hone that skill without walking on egg shells around me. So if your ferrets need some prey from the freshkill pile they're welcome anytime." She asked. Her expression that once was shaken turned kind because for once she was able to focus on her granddaughters face instead of the ferrets, "I love you, I'm sorry I didn't support you from the start so, please let me make this up to you.."

Fallpaw
DayClan Animal Whisperer
The Devoted
Fallpaw had been almost to the exit of the den, when Glowstar's voice rang out and she ran to her side. Honestly she hadn't been expecting the leader to cave, but nor had she really been planning on leaving either. She was simply just going to return to her nest to sleep for a bit with Sprout before heading back out on one of her extended hunting trips. She blinked, staring at the leader with a shocked expression to see her not only this close to sprout that stood between her fore-paws but that she meant what she had said. She could see the internal struggle the leader was going through, but despite herself she smiled slightly "You already have" she answered pressing her nose to Glowstar's
"I will keep Sprout with me, so that she isn't just roaming around camp making you worry" she paused a little more of a mischevious expression on her face "You know... I'm working on finding a mate for Sprout. Maybe the best way for you to get over your fear is for you to raise a pup of your own"
Glowstar's eyes were bright as emeralds by the time Fallpaw touched her nose. There was an unmistakable love that beamed from her heart and emanated from her aura. She wasn't too late, she couldn't be more grateful. She had been repressing Fallpaw's talents, but to hear that it wasn't taken personally. That there would be time to make up for her short comings by giving Fallpaw a better future experience warmed her heart.
"Thank-you Fallpaw," She said before breathing in sharply with a forced polite smile as her granddaughter continued, "My irrational side says hell no, but yes, I will care for a ferret pup if you help me," She said behind a nervous smile, "Just remind me that there's no take backs when the time comes."

Fallpaw blinked, caught off guard when Glowstar agreed. She had intended it only as a joke, but if the leader was really open to the idea it might acutally help her. But knowing the amount of stress it would cause her, she knew she wouldn't make her go through with it unless she wanted to "I was only joking Glowstar" she admitted, but by now she was nearly beaming "I wouldn't make you do that, but when you want to conquer your fear the offer is still there" she purred
Glowstar looked far too relieved, "Alright, thanks," She smirked nuzzling into her granddaughter, "You're going to do amazing and you know it," She promised her.
