(Thread Prompt Dice Roll: Flurryofstars~ 12, rolled again and received a 3 for causing a scene with a heated argument with Swordstrike. Idk if this is at all coherent, but I didn't want to type out a whole novel either lol)
Swordstrike had thought he was going to go on a night patrol with his brother, but Shieldheart seemed to have other plans. As soon as the massive brown warrior exited the den, his older brother had gestured for him to accompany him behind the warriors den. Why? He had no idea. "What's going on, Shield?" he asked as he took a seat opposite the tom. "Thought we were going to go for a hunt?"
"Yeah, so... No one else really knows this yet," Shieldheart brushed off the prying tom with an unsure tone. "But, I think Hystericstar might be leaning towards making me the next....deputy..." There was a scowl on the older warrior's face, but his eyes were probing. Swordstrike's breath caught in his throat at the news and he cocked his head in question. This had to be a joke, right?
"Seriously!?" he asked with no regard for his volume. "That's great! Really. So, you're going to decline, right?" The brown tom's muscles were tensed as he spoke and his fur bristled to show that he was obviously against the promotion. So much for a supportive brother.
"I'm gonna say yes," came the gruff response and Shieldheart puffed his smaller chest out in a challenge. It was almost laughable with their size difference. "Unlike you, I'm loyal to FallClan and if our leader wants me as deputy, then that's what I'll be."
Swordstrike shook his head in disbelief. He couldn't stand it when his loyalty was constantly being questioned when there was hardly proof to back up he wasn't. More importantly, he didn't want his already controlling brother in a position of power where he could dig his claws even deeper into Swordstrike's life. "You only want the job so you can bark orders at everyone! You've always been a follower so why pretend you're anything else?" Taking a menacing step towards the smaller tom he leaned in and growled, "And how could I be disloyal with you breathing down my neck all the time?"
Their voices seemed to echo in the clearing with every word, but neither of them seemed to care. Part of why Shieldheart wanted to talk in camp and not on a patrol, was in case his younger brother started something like this. Though, things were escalating fast and his normally self-aware brother was doing everything in his power to start some kind of a scene.
Angelshine looked up from the paw she had been grooming and her ears perked forward, picking up the argument between the two warriors. Curious. They squabbled like an old married couple. The brown tabby lifted her bright blue gaze and fixed it on the forms of the two cats across the clearing. One was smaller than the other, but she could clearly tell he was the one used to being in charge of the duo, calling the shots. The other, the massive tom, seemed like the type to rebel against the control that was attempted to be placed upon him. Faint amusement filtered through her as she settled back and continued to watch them argue back and forth, throwing small quips and barbs here and there at each other.
Eventually Angelshine got to her paws and padded over to the couple. She was afraid that if someone did not step in there would be a brawl in the middle of camp. "Good evening, gentlemen. If you would rather not have the whole clan hear this escapade I would suggest lowing your voices." Her tone was neither hostile nor demanding. Just factual and cold as she was. Angelshine was very analytical and thought of situations in black and white, no grey areas or in between.

At the she-cat's interruption, both of the toms flinched a mouse-length back and glanced her way. Swordstrike's nostrils flared in annoyance as he suspected this was why his brother had chosen to talk in camp. Allowing the opportunity for bystanders to break up a fight before it could really get going. The realization caused him to feel ashamed for having fallen for the trap, not to mention embarrassed. Shieldheart's glance was more of a double-take, with the second look including a full head turn and a slow once over of Angelshine. The soon-to-be deputy recognized her but had only ever managed to admire her from afar. Up close, he had to appreciate the the view. Of course, she had to come up to him now when he was busy with Swordstrike.
"Tell that to Skippy over here. He's getting all fired up for no reason," Shieldheart said with a grin. He let out a low laugh laced with both amusement and irritation. Really, his brother always had to be a prude.
Swordstrike scoffed at his brother and turned to Angelshine as well. Lowering his volume as much as he could in the situation he said, "I'm not sure how well you know my brother, but even you must see how immature he is. He's hardly fit to become a deputy." The warrior could feel eyes burning into the side of his head and he couldn't help but smirk.

The brown tabby smirked, her blue eyes gazing over each tom. Angelshine felt Shieldheart admiring her and she straightened her posture. "Hm. Well, my thoughts on the matter at hand are not of importance as I have no final say in the decision of who the deputy should be. Though if I am being honest, a little immaturity never hurt. But too much is quite a problem. Let's just hope it does not escalate to that." She replied. Angelshine had seen the two around camp before but never had the opportunity to have a conversation with them. She had noticed that the taller one seemed more incline to argue and the shorter tom had more of a temper.

(I think I see what's going on here and I love it lmao!)
"Thank you," Shieldheart exclaimed as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his shoulders. Even though the she-cat had not exactly sided with him, she had said enough to almost sound like a win in his book. Although, he wasn't exactly happy that she hadn't denied his immaturity. Personally, he thought he came off stoically handsome... "See, Swordy? She think's I'd be great." As a show of thanks, he sent a perfectly serious and not at all immature wink to Angelshine.
Blinking at what he could only describe as his brother's ignorance, Swordstrike looked between the two. "Oh, really? And what she-cat are you talking about? Because she definitely didn't say that," he said with a nod towards the tabby. "And yes, I agree Angelshine. Too much immaturity could definitely become a problem. If we're thinking about what's best for the clan, it's not him."
"Oh, that's rich coming from you," Shieldheart grunted. Shaking his head he walked a few paced away from his brother. They could still be at each other's throats at any second and he liked having some distance from the giant.
Angelshine delicately rolled her blue eyes at the antics of the two brothers before her. Seemed like they could just never agree. When she glanced back at Shieldheart she raised an eyebrow as he threw a wink her way. Confident, ain't he? Swordstrike continued with his words and she let out a small sigh. "Though there is immaturity there, I think we should all just trust Hystericstar's decision is the best one he makes more the clan. If he believe's Shieldheart is capable enough to be deputy, we should support his decision no matter how much it conflicts with our own opinion. Though if you are truly worried it would not be the best for the clan I would suggest talking with the leader yourself and voicing your concerns." Ever the neutralist, Angelshine be the voice of reason between the two warriors. Even if she happens to favor Shieldheart. She believes he would make a fine deputy, putting the clan above all else.

"Still right here," the smaller tom chirped with a strained smile. As much as he appreciated the "support", he felt like they were talking behind his back but while also being right in front of him. After she had finished giving her suggestion, Shieldheart let out a little whistle and turned to the other tom. "Yeah! If you got a problem with what Hystericstar's thinking, then you should bring it up with the head honcho himself."
Swordstrike's tail lashed behind him while the rest of his body was seeming to relax. Even his sour expression had shifted into more of a pout. "Yeah, sure," he snorted, not needing to see his brother to know his eyes were sparkling. If Swordstrike brought any of his concerns to their leader, then he'd just be accused of complaining about not getting the promotion himself. And maybe he would have liked it, but that wasn't actually the problem. Shieldheart must have understood why any concerns couldn't come directly from him too.

Angelshine turned her attention to Shieldheart with a sly smile. “Yes, Shieldheart. We know you are here.” She stated in a matter-of-fact tone of voice. She took the time to take in the tom’s features as she never had the chance to before. An interesting sort of tom. There was something that she could not put her paw on. Her blue eyes then cut toward Swordstrike and she gave the massive tom a polite nod. “Well now that the issue is settled for now, how about we put our excess enegry to use and gather some prey for the clan.” She extended the invitation of a hunting to both toms, not really knowing if either would accept. It didn’t really matter as she was going with or without them.

Before Swordstrike could decline the offer, Shieldheart gave an exuberant nod. "Sounds like a plan. Come on, Swordy." Walking bravely over to the sulking warrior, he gave him a nudge to the ribs. Even though he was still upset himself, his mood always improved at the mention of a hunt. "I'm starved!"
"Hunting for the clan, Shield," the younger reminded him with a pointed look. But it seemed even he was less-inclined to argue now. The next time they were alone, they'd probably pick up where they left off though. Swordstrike was always consistent like that--wanting to talk about their feelings and reach some type of agreement. "It'll be good to have another cat on the job," he directed towards Angelshine. She seemed level-headed, which he appreciated. Although, he wasn't blind to the lingering gaze she'd had on Shieldheart previously. Was she just analyzing him or was she another victim to his charms?

The beautiful tabby turned her gaze to Swordstrike now, studying him. Her blue eyes were bright, but lacking. This massive tom seemed just as interesting as his brother. She couldn’t put to a word to it, but it made her give both of the toms a second glance. Angelshine gave the toms a brisk nod and turned, trotting toward the camp entrance without a backwards glance. “No time to waste gentlemen. Let’s go.” She stated, not sparing a backwards glance at them.

Shieldheart's head angled while he watched Angelshine trotting away, his tongue sticking between his teeth as he followed the sway of her haunches. "I like her," he stated with an approving nod as he went to catch up with the warrior. Swordstrike shook his head, "You like anyone with a heartbeat and a pretty face." A shrug was all he got in response. By the time they'd exited camp, each tom was following close behind her at both sides.
"So, where to?" Shieldheart questioned. Angelshine certainly seemed to have a destination in mind with how purposeful she'd acted before.

Angshine kept a leisurely pace as the trio exited the camp and into the surrounding mountains. Her paws careful navigated the stone pathway leading to the lush forest and shubbery. “The firefly meadow. It’s a rich place for hunting during this time of the day.” She responded, glancing back at Shieldheart with a slight smirk on her face. Her brown tabby fur looked soft and luminous is the sun and her blue eyes were light and lively. “Hope that is okay with you two.” Her gaze then transferred to Swordstrike, awaiting his approval or disapproval.

Swordstrike smiled at her choice. It was a good hunting spot at night, and if there were any fireflies out, they'd have more than just the moon to light their way. "Great choice. I haven't been over there for a long time," he said, straightening at the thought. He remembered having a couple of dates in the meadow, and although they hadn't lasted, only fond memories entered his mind.
It wasn't the place Shieldheart would have picked, but it was a good source of prey he had to admit. Although, it was utilized more often during the day for hunting. At night, it became a scenic spot for couples--something he was very familiar with. Going there with his brother was a little weird, but he shrugged it off. Trotting up a little so he was closer to Angelshine's side, he gave her a confident grin. "Didn't know you liked me that much."

Angelshine had never really been to the firefly meadow, but had heard from other warriors around camp that it was a great place for hunting both day and night. She thought she'd give it a try tonight and she just so happened to invite the two brothers along with her. "I haven't had a chance to visit the meadow yet and thought I would give it a try tonight." She replied to Swordstrike as they continued on their way. Soon they entered the lush undergrowth of the forest, not too far away from their destination. As Sheildheart approached her and flashed a grin her way, she rolled her eyes. "Do not flatter yourself deputy. I already had plans on hunting here for tonight. You just happen to be tagging along." Angelshine responded with a smirk as she glance over at the tom.

Shieldheart shot a look at his brother as Swordstrike let out a huff of a laugh. Then he met Angelshine's smirk with his grin back in place. The sound of "deputy" on her tongue sounded nice and inflated his already big ego. For a moment, he almost forgot he was supposed to be flirting and gave a slight shake of his head to clear it. "Well, sounds like your night got a whole lot better." Swordstike came up by her other side after he decided the flirting was becoming too much. "So, Angelshine. How long have you been in FallClan?"

Angelshine let out a soft snort at Shieldheart's statement and turned her attention towards Swordstrike. "A while. I was raised on my own by my father before he vanished and a passing Fallclan patrol found me, offering me a place within the clan." She stated, her blue eyes shifting over the massive tom. Her childhood was not something she liked to talk about and her father was a sore subject for her, so her tone was hard preventing the tom from probing further. "What about you? Were you born in Fallclan?" She asked, genuinely curious about their situation and their place within the clan.

Swordstrike felt a pang of sympathy at her words and he couldn't help but compare her past with theirs. Like her, their father had vanished for a while. But they did eventually find him and spend his last few days together. He could tell that it was a sore subject for her, so he kept any further questions to himself. "We were born in FallClan, but after our mom passed away, our dad and us traveled around for a while. Shieldheart and I came back to FallClan about six moons ago." Enough time had passed that Swordstrike was able to answer without feeling choked up by it all.

Angelshine felt sympathy as well for the two toms. She knows absolutely nothing about her mother. Sometimes she is convinced her father is the one who created her out of thin air. His disappearance hit her hard even though they were never very close. The soft brown almost black she-cat nimbly dodged fallen trees and branches in their path as they made their way closer to the meadow. A faint glow could be seen up ahead, signaling the entrance of their destination. “I’m sorry for your lost. And welcome home.” She replied, not really knowing what to say next.

Swordstrike dipped his head, "Thank you. It was a long time ago, so-" His words were interrupted by Shieldheart snorting on her other side. Completely ignoring Swordstrike's words and replying to her's instead, the warrior muttered under his breath, "Yeah, we'll see how long that lasts." Angelshine would be oblivious of course, but Swordstrike's explanation had been an abbreviated version. Everything left out was a sore spot for both of them, but one of the main reasons the two disagreed came from their time travelling with their dad. Before the tom vanished, Shieldheart had spent every moment he could with him. But Swordstrike was constantly rebelling. He didn't understand what they were working towards, and up and left many times. It was only a matter of time before his brother would leave FallClan too.

Angelshine raised an eyebrow at Shieldheart's response to her words. She gathered from his tone that there was much more to the story than what Swordstrike had said, but she did not press either of the brothers. It was their family issue and she would not get involved in it. Soon the forest around the trio thinned out and opened into a vast and bright clearing of tall grass. Little balls of light could be seen flickering and flying about. Honestly, it did give the meadow a quite romantic glow. Angelshine trotted forward, her deep blue eyes darting back and forth as she took in the scene. "This place is quite the sight to see at night." She commented and changed the subject of conversation.
