Mousepaw
SunClan Apprentice
The Frail
Mousepaw didn't have to be told twice, taking the opportunity to scamper off and out of the grumpy warrior's sight and into the thick underbrush. She was far enough away that she couldn't been seen, but close enough that she could race back if he started yelling for her again "May the Sun God bless his soul' she murmured, even though she was scared of him she didn't necessarily want him to come to any harm "and keep me away from his anger"
"What happened? Was it Festeringfruit again?" Anyone who saw these two cats talking would assume Mousepaw the senior and Twilightpaw her junior. He was not going to be a remarkably large tom in adulthood but he had matured faster than most while the older apprentice had the opposite problem, "If he ever hurts you, you promise to tell me, okay? That guy gives me the creeps..."
Twilightpaw was very protective in nature. While it was mostly directed at his family, he had a soft spot for Mousepaw, as they both grew up together and she needed a lot of extra help due to her fragile health. It wasn't like she needed a protector. She had Lionpride and Earthpaw, both powerful and capable toms, on her side. But neither of them were here, were they?

Mousepaw leaned into Twilightpaw, just glad to have him there beside of her "No, he didn't hurt me. He is just a meanie" she mewed, with a little sigh "I don't know what happened to him to make him that way, but it must have been horrible. He is always yelling, and every time I catch something he takes it and eats it before we get back to camp. He doesn't do any real training with me, he just wants to fill his belly"
"He what!?" Twilightpaw growled, letting anger take the lead instead of the butterflies in his stomach when he felt Mousepaw lean into his side, "That's against the code, Mousepaw. Did you report it to..." But then he trailed off, realizing the the only cat to report to was Bloodystar, and Festeringfruit was his half-brother. He couldn't be sure that that crazy tom would do anything about this besides possibly throwing Mousepaw into prison for slander, "... Actually, how about I go with you two next time you hunt? I will make sure the prey you catch gets put in the fresh-kill pile, and if he yells at your for anything I'll wallop him."

Mousepaw looked down at the ground "It wouldn't matter if I did report him...." she trailed off before nodding at his next comment "Would you? It would make me feel so much better to have you there. He really scares me, and I don't want to be left alone with him"
As the tom finished his prey, he neatened up his scraggly whiskers and rose to his paws. "Mousepaw," he called briskly, "rid me of these bones, then come back. It's past time we start hunting." He had broken one apprentice, and he would this one as well; Festeringfruit was doing them a service, really. Weak cats would not survive his clan, and they had too many soft warriors already. Not that Festeringfruit cared much if this clan rotted to pieces.
Twilightpaw's ears flicked back at Festeringfruit's call but he gave Mousepaw a reassuring nudge, "Don't worry, I won't let anyone hurt you. Let's get going before we actually give him a reason to complain."
The gray-and-white tom took a few pawsteps toward Festeringfruit but didn't get far before glancing back to make sure Mousepaw was following him.

"Coming" she called back in response, even though her feet felt frozen to the ground. She looked over to Twilightpaw finally getting enough courage to make her way back over to what her mentor had left behind as she bagan picking up the scattered bones, glancing over at him
Stone-faced, Twilightpaw was always hard to read, but even he struggled to hide the disgusted expression as he watched precious little Mousepaw begin to clean up bones. Bones that should never have been scattered as such in the first place, many of which still had good meat clinging to them. It seemed Festeringfruit was not only foul-tempered but wasteful. It made him angry but it was not his place to stand up to a Warrior, much less Bloodystar's half-brother and Foxbane's son.
He busied himself by collecting bones as well and offered Mousepaw a leaf to rest them on, "He's quite the messy cat. Seems no one ever taught him manners."

Mousepaw kept her head down until she had managed to amass a big pile of bones with the help of Twilightpaw "at least its only bones this time..." she whispered. It wasn't the first time her mentor had sent her to cleaning up things, and bones was the least of her worries. It was a lot easier than blood that was for sure
It made Twilightpaw's blood boil to think that Mousepaw had been serving as Festeringfruit's maid for so long, but what was he supposed to do? The Warrior outranked him and was part of Bloodystar's inner circle. There was no disobeying him. Still, his arctic blue eyes darkened a shade, and he unsheathed his claws, tearing the edge of the leaf, "Next time he asks you to do something like this you find me and I will take care of it, okay?" He wasn't sure what he would do exactly, but it would be something, something to fix all of this.

The small she cat shook her head from one side to the other, "Its not worth the fight Twilightpaw" She looked down at the ground "If dad can make it in prison, I can endure a little bit of busy work"
The warrior stood by the entrance to the camp, his tail flicking impatiently. "Are you done yet? We need to get started on training before the sun is up."
