Redpaw walked over to the grassy area with a vole dangling from her mouth. She had been out hunting for the first time with her mentor and now she was finally allowed to eat. "Is this place taken?" she asked Sunkit after she dropped the vole to the ground. It wasn't very long ago she was a kit and she guessed this might be the first time Sunkit may have tasted fresh kill.

(Hope you don't mind me using third person.)

"No," Redpaw meowed smiling. "I caught two mice earlier. You might be eating one of them yourself." She settled down next to Sunkit and began to eat her vole. "I haven't caught one of these yet but I want to." She licked her lips. "I like them better than mice. Wanna taste?" She pushed the half eaten vole closer to the kit.

"I thought you might like it," Redpaw purred. "I heard they're harder to catch. My mentor hasn't taken me yet to where you can find them but I hope it will be soon." Then after thinking for a moment, she added, "Why don't we trade? I can finish your mouse and you can have the rest of this vole." She had eaten plenty of voles and figured she could have more later.

Redpaw pulled the mouse closer and took a bite. "I remembering thinking the same thing," she mewed. "That was until I actually saw our territory on my first day out. I thought my paws would fall off by the time I got back to camp. And then my mentor told me I didn't even see all of it yet! I'll tell you I slept real good that night." She finished the mouse and sat back.

"Yes," Redpaw nodded as she cleaned herself. "It's amazing. We've got lots of cool places like the lake and the waterfalls and especially the ocean. I've only been there once but it's great. You can see the edge of the earth from there!" She still thrilled at seeing it. It took her breath away because it was so awesome. "I can't wait to go back."

"I gotta clean out the elder's old bedding," Redpaw said wrinkling her nose. "At least I don't have to check them for fleas and ticks. Someone else did that earlier today."

A reddish brown tabby kit came bouncing over. "Hi!" he mewed happily. Fisherkit had just awoke from his nap when saw the two cats talking. "Whatcha doin'?"

Redpaw smiled at the new arrival before replying. "That would be great if it's alright with your mom." She loved helping out the elders when she was just a kit. It made her feel more grown up.

"Can I too? Pleeeeeaase?" begged Fisherkit.

"Sure, more paws make less work," Redpaw mewed. It would mean less trips hauling out the old moss and bringing in the new.

Bonefang was laying outside the elder's den when he saw the cats approaching. "Hello," he meowed. "Have you come for a story?"

Fisherkit was bouncing around happily. "Nope! Not today. We're here to to work!" he mewed proudly.

"Actually it's my job to clean out the old bedding but these two wanted to help out." Redpaw waved her tail toward Sunkit.

"Well that sounds like a big undertaking," Bonefang told Sunkit. "But you look up to the task." He enjoyed the company of younger cats and tried to encourage them whenever he could.

Redpaw made her way into the den and started to paw out the old bedding. Distracted by a passing leaf in the breeze, Fisherkit jumped up in an attempt to catch it between his two front feet. He failed miserably and toppled over into Sunkit. "Oops! Sorry," he laughed.
